Learn of Me

Rate this book
President Russell M. Nelson issued a challenge to those wishing to increase their testimony of Jesus Christ:

* Study everything Jesus said and did as recorded in the Old Testament.
* Study His laws as recorded in the New Testament.
* Study His doctrine as recorded in the Book of Mormon.
* Study His words as recorded in the Doctrine and Covenants.

In Learn of Me, author Stephanie Dibb Sorensen provides a valuable resource to accomplish this goal with a rich and detailed annotation of each scripture listed under "Jesus Christ" in the Topical Guide. This in-depth study of the Savior traces His ministry and teachings through each of the standard works, providing a vivid account of His life and attributes. Enhanced by insights from modern-day prophets, apostles, and educators, readers are guided through the scriptures, with ample space to take notes on personal insights and spiritual impressions. Prompts for reflection and discussion questions encourage thoughtful participation and allow for family involvement. Lists of additional resources allow you to expand and revisit your study in meaningful ways over and over again. By increasing in knowledge and strengthening personal conversion through study, you can truly answer the call to come unto Christ.

Hi, it's me. I wrote the book. Here's why I think you'll like it.

From the Preface:
This Learn of Me study workbook compiles into one convenient source all of the scriptures President Russell M. Nelson challenged the membership of the church to study: the verses listed under “Jesus Christ” in the Topical Guide, including the 57 subcategories, all from the Bible, Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. ...

In addition to the scripture verses, Learn of Me includes teachings from modern-day prophets, apostles, general authorities, and religious educators that clarify and expound the principles taught in scripture. Definitions, reflection questions, recommended resources for further study, suggestions for family discussion, related hymns, and space for note-taking all magnify the study process and help the reader to “come unto Christ” in both word and deed.

My goal for Learn of Me is to help you and your family engage in a powerful study of the life, teachings, and mission of Jesus Christ. I believe that doing so will nourish your testimony of Him, your relationship to Him, and your desire to more fully live His teachings and example.

This one will take a bit of time. Reading & studying with my sisters at the rate of a chapter a week. So will take over a year to complete.

Yes it did take us over a year to finish. This is a collection of scriptures and talks that you can get elsewhere for free, but being put together by topic as a study guide with space for writing (and a lovely spiral binding) was worth it for me to read and write with this book.

While I am only half-way through, I feel I can give a review already. This book is a study guide, not something you sit and read. Come at it with a pen in hand because there are places to ponder and write your thoughts. I have been using this for my scripture study for about a month and a half now. I love this book for so many reasons.

First, I tried to do this in my own in the past, but it was a bit tedious. This book brings everything together in one place on one page- no flipping pages and marking places needed.

Second, I love the additional things added in- quotes from general authorities and prophets, references for additional reading, and the questions.

Third, I want to expound on the questions for a minute. These little questions make me think. Sometimes, I don’t know the answer, so I put in the work to find it. Sometimes these questions bring me to tears as I answer them.

Fourth, and most important of all is how much this book has helped me deepen my relationship with my Savior, Jesus Christ. I have had some beautiful moments of learning and feeling the Spirit so intensely.

I highly recommend!

This was such a great experience to read all the topical guide references to Jesus Christ. It really opened my eyes to terminology and added meaning.

I tried to use this study 4 or 5 years ago, but never got past the first section. This year I decided to go through it during the Lent season to help me prepare for Easter. It was great for that. It was nice to have the scriptures all printed in one place, though I can see how I would have gotten more out of reading all the context for the passages. Most of them I was already familiar with, but you never know what else you’ll pick up in the verses surrounding them. I appreciated the quotations and suggested talks and hymns for further study. The reflection questions were sometimes helpful. I felt they often took me out of the topic being studied. They tended to focus me back on myself instead of learning more about Jesus Christ. Maybe another time they will be more helpful for me. Overall, this was a wonderful way for me to study these scriptures. The chronological stories of Jesus in the appendix is also a nice addition.
