"Like Starship Troopers on crack!" -Goodreads reviewer
Over 1,500 pages of nonstop action! Ambushed behind enemy lines and left for dead along with a handful of privates so green they actually respect his authority, Lance Cpl. Lucky Lee Savage has to master his inner demons, manage the ambitions of his foul-mouthed AI, and figure out what is tearing a hole in the fabric of space-time before everything goes tits up.
Lucky wouldn’t bet on the universe. One thing he will bet on: Somewhere, somehow, somebody is going to pay for all this. And he is going to be right there to pull the trigger.
Includes the first 6 books in the Lucky's Marines series:
Lucky Universe
Lucky Legacy
Lucky Empire
Lucky Forever
Lucky Invasion
Lucky Revenge
“Put a smile on your face and your self is sure to follow.” This has been such a fun and wonderful read! To discover a treacherous empire, a run for their lives, encounter fun and deadly characters, with a witty and sarcastic dialogue has made this premise super interesting and entertaining! I was kept on pins and needles throughout the story wondering what the ruthless bad guys are going to do next. I couldn't put it down and I was captivated until the very end. It's fast, moves faster, and keeps the reader guessing. And even when we understand, we're still engaged until the resolution—one that is highly satisfying in terms of pure aggression and excitement. This whole series has been a thrill ride! So happy to know there’s going to be a new series in Lucky’s Universe! Joshua James is a very skilled writer, I highly recommend this series!
I'm disappointed. I purchased the Lucky Legacy Box set on sale at Audible and finished reading Book #2 of Lucky's Marines Lucky Legacy.
I love a good action-packed space opera, but this was not for me. In books 1 & 2. there is a ton of action but not much else. The tech is not explained beyond a solution to almost anything other than a fatal wound. Even with the amazing tech that grows back limbs and heals most things, the author constantly puts Lucky, the main character, in way too many unsolvable situations, only to have a miracle happen that lets him survive. The worldbuilding about the Empire and the Union is scant. The world-building about the enemy is even less; they are simply a maniacally evil race looking to concur the universe.
Lucky and his small Frontier Marine fire team struggle to solve a crisis in the universe, and they have little to no knowledge of what is occurring on a grand scale. The Empire leadership is corrupt and has exposed humanity to potential destruction in its greed to obtain new weapons and technology—not that this is implausible. Still, I found it heavy-handed and lacking nuance. I can't figure out why the Marines don't take some of the blue energy weapons from the dead instead of continuing to use their underpowered tech.
I guess if there is a significant criticism, it is that the author does not develop the characters enough for me to relate to them. They are all shallow. Lucky is okay, but other than knowing he is the product of an experiment and that because of this, he has been exposed to the Hate, which granted special powers to him and his AI Rocky, there is not much else. The other characters are just like Star Trek extras. The author provides supporting characters with enough background to keep the story going. Still, not enough to make them interesting, and I struggle to connect with the characters even after finishing book 2 of this series.
Maybe the author is trying to build suspense by telling the story from the perspective of a small unit in the fog of war, but it felt to me like the reader was just in for the ride, with no idea where the story was going. This is not a bad series, but it's not good either. It probably deserves 2.5 stars, but it does not rate three stars for me. I am calling it quits (DNF) on the box set because, after reading the first two books, I am not interested enough to continue.
The series was fascinating with really interesting characters and technology that falls well within the realm of possibility. "Lucky" quickly became my favorite character and never disappointed. His cast of fellow marines were the perfect accomplices. The various alien races, both friend and foe, provided excellent material to advance the story. I had hoped that Lucky would eventually take over as leader of the known universes but the ending was perfect as it stands. I highly recommend this series.
Comparing this to Starship Troopers is like comparing a cheap Ford sedan to a Rolls Royce . Decent but too many very obvious cliches and borrowing lines from other sources . So many twists it was difficult to keep up . And do not get me started on those last minute miracle saves because Lucky got into an impossible position . Just too many to be believable .
I really ate this book up just a great fun read and I love how the box set came with book 0 through book 7 quite funny at times and an interesting look at one man's fight with himself If you want to chew up a weekend or have a book that you can pick up and put down on your breaks this is what you want
Surprise, you get Seven novels when you purchase this six book box set. Lucky is sort of like a Dudley Do right of the Mounties in space. His plans of action never seem to work out as intended. He and his squad keep coming back for more after near death injuries from their misadventures and encounters. A fun read with light hearted humor. Enjoy !
The first book pulls you in and does’t let go, The only way to get a break is to finish the book, but again as you glance at the opening of the next book, you get sucked back in. You just have to read to the end - again!
Thoroughly enjoyed this boxed set. Characters were entertaining and loved the nanobot idea. Was sorry to reach the end. Will look forward to getting the rest of the series.
Story spanning lots of time. Gets a little tedious with supper powerful things that are unbeatable suddenly being beaten by one man.... Entertaining with lots of action.
This series had its fun points. Character development was pretty good but the story was weak. I can't put my finger on it but I gave up reading after book three.
Kept telling myself I was going to put it down and then I would pick it up until I finished it. Of course, I am also the person who reads the cereal box.
Gret reading great hero. Just when u think he's down he gets back up. I'm not real wordy but I did just read all of the first seven books without, pause.
Read the whole series back to back. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Lucky and his fellow Marines are great. The bad guys are really bad and the sci-fi is very good. Was sad to get to the end of #6 and found a novella bundled in, and then the author threw in book #7 to boot! You can't go wrong riding along with the perennially unlucky Lucky.
Fantastic story,I love how the characters seam so life like with the constant bickering and how they look out for each other, can't wait to read the next story . Keep it up.
Great action, characters. As usual Lucky and his comrades become embroiled in another fubar situation.Fans of the series won't be disappointed.Fantastically chaotic
