George and Harold have played a trick or two on nearly everyone at Jerome Horwitz Elementary. When their latest prank causes the school's cranky cafeteria ladies to quit, Mr. Krupp hires a trio of unusual replacements -- who happen to look an awful lot like aliens! Will that curtain-caped crusader, Captain Underpants, save the day once more? Or will those outer-space cafeteria ladies have him for lunch?
David "Dav" Pilkey (b. March 4, 1966), is a popular children's author and artist. Pilkey is best known as the author and illustrator of the Captain Underpants book series. He lives near Seattle, Washington with his wife, Sayuri.
These are great. Wacky antics but with some serious creativity too.
The central idea that the worst guy (the awful principal) is also unknowingly the hero (Captain Underpants!) is still so fresh. My kid is reading this book over and over.
I thought I will ran out of breath while reading the title of this book. So far, this is the funniest and the silliest I've read in this graphic novel series. Underwear Cave cracked me up and readers will be entertain with the other funny lines in this 3rd installment. If you are suffering due to stress or just want to have a good laugh, then try to read this and the other books in this series.
Our duo is back for a new adventure! This time featuring aliens, evil lunch ladies, zombie nerds, and of course Captain Underpants!
So, I was at a book store last Saturday when, while walking through the second-hand section, I came across this book and 2 of his friends. Of course I had to bring them with me, I always wanted to continue reading this series, but always forgot to buy them from Amazon.
Our duo (George and Harold) love pranking/making jokes about people. They either do this in real life or they write comics about it. Often I am not all too happy when pranks/jokes go far, but with George and Harold? I just couldn't be mad at them. Maybe it helps that they do try to save the world when that situation arises + quite often their pranks/jokes are funny and people seem to like it (well, OK, the children like it, the adults don't, but that is generally how it goes). Though I have to say the comic about the lunch ladies went a bit too far, at least for me. I have to say I loved their prank with the exploding cupcake mix (though do I want to know why the mix was green?). How those lunch ladies didn't notice the ingredients were a bit strange... oh well, if the food is really that terrible, I guess they wouldn't know a fake recipe from a real one.
The book is filled with several comics (which I loved, it made the book even more fun to read), and also 2 flip-o-rama. I still love those flip-o-rama's, it works so much better to flip through it, see the action happen, then that they would have written/drawn it out in a comic.
The aliens (Zorx, Klax, and Jennifer (yes, Jennifer)) were great villains, their plans were pretty great, though of course they are no match for Harold and George and Captain Underpants. But I still had a big laugh at the names of the juices (Super Evil Rapid Growth juice), though I loved that they also had milk, just milk, in their refrigerator.
Captain Underpants was a bit so-so in this one, mostly to do with several things (which I can't tell because it would spoil things). Though I have to say he regained his awesomeness near the end again.
There is also some fourth wall breaking, which I just love. More books should do that.
The art is still perfect, it just fits so well with the series. A bit silly, a bit weird. :P
Also plus points to the amazing title!
All in all, I would recommend this book, and I will be reading the other books I have soon!
As a third grade teacher I'm always looking for high interest high vocabulary books for my students to read. I want the book to be part of a long series in case they like it they can continue reading on their own during silent reading time. This book was not only full of high vocabulary but it was very funny. The kids loved it, especially the Flip-O-Ramas. They laughed out loud and looked forward to our daily read aloud. It was the perfect book.
This book is super hilarious! I want to read the others! ~Alexis, 9 yrs old
I got in trouble for shouting "KA-BLOOOOOSH"!!! -Jeramiah, 8 yrs old
I think this book is funny and hilarious and I love the Flip-O-Ramas. ~Cherilyn, 8 yrs old
I liked this book because it's so funny when Captain Underpants is in his underwear. ~David, 9yrs old
These Flip-O-Ramas are Flipping crazy! ~Marisa, 9 yrs old
My favorite part is when Captain Underpants defeats the evil Dandelion of doom. ~Keemari, 9 yrs old
I like this book because it's really funny and I like when Captain Underpants changes from Mr. Krupp into Captain Underpants. ~Alexa, 8 yrs old
This book is really hysterical because when Captain Underpants is in his underpants he stands for pre-cottony and wedgie power. ~Jorge, 8 yrs old
I've said in my last two reviews that I'm enjoying reading these books to my children... and it continues. These two crazy fourth graders get into all sorts of mischief and seeing my son get so excited while I read them is worth it. He laughs at all my silly voices and tells me all the things that are going to happen, while my older son screams in the background SPOILERS!!!
I think Dav Pilkey is brilliant for creating this series. It gets kids engaged and reading. The stories are memorable. The vocabulary is so absurd and comical you can't help but what to shout them out.
I try to go all out and obnoxious when I read this series to make it more fun and entertaining for all of us and again. It's totally worth the hour it takes to read the entire book out loud to my two silly boys.
If you haven't picked up one of these books and read them to your children, you must!
We love the Captain Underpants books here, the kids for their silliness (and yes, gross humor) and the parents because these books have gotten our autistic son excited about reading and more importantly talking about reading, like no other. He eagerly snatches up the new book and runs over to show us which new sign Harold and George are going to mix up and turn into something gross this time. We've even caught him reading his Captain Underpants books—by choice!
Now our daughter loves reading—anything--so getting her engaged isn't as hard. She, too, loves these books for their high giggle factor.
In this third book (intimidatingly titled “Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds)” ) finally brings Harold and George, creators of both the comic and real Captain Underpants and major prankster, into full hero roles as one of their pranks (a sciency one!) leads to them being the only students not turned into evil zombie nerds by alien invaders. So they and their principal, Mr. Krupp as his heroic alter ego, Captain Underpants, must save the world, and the school, from total destruction.
Despite their sometimes destructive and often naughty ways it's stories like this which prove Harold and George and sweeties (and heroes) at heart. This is probably our favorite Captain Underpants story so far.
SNAP! POOF! It's captain underpants. I just finishes captain underpants the invasion of the evil naughty lunch ladies.George and Harold are the main characters in this book. George and Harold remind me of me and my best friend JC and I. We used to act all child like George and Harold did but now we have are self toghther and act are age ( like George and Harold did ). It takes some tough guts to try and save everybody in the world. I know it's just a book but still that's pretty cool. I got hooked on that book and plus the series. I mean that book action after action after action so amazing. When u first start reading that book right of the bat it will sweep you of your feet and take you deep into the book. Also there's these fun activities like FLIP -O- RAMA. When you are reading this book 1 second your face is straight the next your dying laughing. One of the best books I've ever read. I love this Arthur Dav Pilkey he rights such great books. This book had a really good meaning to it.I have 1 question , why was there punishment no cafeteria food for the rest of the year a bad thing? I just can't wait to read the next book in the series. I recommend book for anyone who likes mystery , entertainment , comedy etc.... . I really thank my teacher Mrs. Jones for allowing me to read that book. So go out get the book and read it NOW.
Kali ini duo nakal ini mengacak-acak kafetaria sekolah yg terkenal makanannya bikin toilet cerewet pun K.O (baca buku ini sblmnya).
Cuma plot ceritanya ditambah biar makin seru dgn kedatangan 3 mahkluk UFO yg mengubah semua anak dan guru mjd zombie kutu buku yg jahat. Bahkan duet mrk dgn Kapten Kolor nyaris gagal krn mrk ditangkap.
Lanjut buku 4.
I read the entire Captain Underpants series when I was a kid (with my mom rolling her eyes the whole time), and now I’ve been going through them with my five-year-old. This one we listened to on audiobook during the drive to school each morning, and he’s loved it. We’d scarcely finished this one before he was pushing me to start the next. Great series for little kids (and for dads who never grow out of thinking underwear jokes are the funniest jokes).
Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds) is about the two lovable troublemakers; George and Harold who get into more trouble than I think they know what to do with. In this particular installation, a prank they play on the lunch ladies causes them to quit and their spots to be filled by none other than Zorx, Klax and Jennifer who are evil aliens. George and Harold notice something weird happening to everyone eating the lunchroom food and they quickly find out what the problem is. They need to act fast to save the world and they do just that with a combination of flip-o-rama fight scenes and some help from captain underpants. Captain Underpants... where to begin? Children are enthralled by Captain Underpants in all of his humorous glory. While I never read the books as a child, reading one now helps me see why children love him. This book was very funny and had me laughing out loud sometimes. The illustrations were related to the story line and helped to illustrate nicely. The pictures were simple black and white but comic book style which enhanced the story immensely. Children who have trouble reading or need visual cues would love this book and any graphic novel really because it helps combine increasing amounts of text with pictures which are a familiar aspect of children's literature. While I may not use this in my classroom, I would definitely encourage my student to read this book or others like it for it's comic relief and easy read style. I would not use it in my classroom because there is no real educational value but it is important for children to read for enjoyment not just education which is why I would still encourage my students to read these books. Overall it was really just a fun read for me and I know children feel the same way.
You know... I was starting to expect these books to become a little formulaic and thus affecting my enjoyment. And that still may happen, but this one took it to another level!! More so than book 2!
This one has 3 baddies in it and has a self aware deus ex machina moment. I loved it.
Captain Underpants also changes a bit - so yay for a small and surprising character development!
My 7 year old and I have been rereading the Captain Underpants books before his bedtime in random order. I finally decided to start logging them, because why not? They ARE funny - full of puns and fun literary devices. They’re great for learning how stories are structured and built.
I can see why kids would find this appealing, it's quick, the author integrates with his readers through his writing, there's a comic going on within a comic, the illustrations are fun, and the diction used arguably funnier. Personally, this is no longer my cup of tea. There's no intriguing plotline, the characters don't do much but cause trouble and never admit that they're at fault, never accountable for their mistake, and never properly punished, and it's all so mind-numbingly dumb it's incredible. Do the original cafeteria ladies return btw?
The aliens die a horrible death and so does a plant that could advance the course of science but everyone cheers once they return to their original selves. Captain Underpants doesn't even do that much in this third volume wtf He is meant to be the most prominent character, he's the titular character ffs, yet he doesn't contribute to anything. At this point it's just glorified hypnotisation. The title too is excessively long and basically a summary of the entire story lol The flip-o-rama idea is quite original ngl Anyway I am too old to enjoy Pilkey so call me a bore or whatever. It honestly really did feel good to return to my childhood days for a few minutes.
Despite the repetition of the plot structure in each of these books, each one is still so fun. I love the cheesy jokes thrown in for adults, how meta it can be, and just the joy of a silly story with super convenient and ridiculous plot lines to allow our heroes George and Harold save the day. And despite the predictability of each book’s structure, I really can’t predict what trouble awaits George and Harold or how they’ll get out of it. And it’s super fun reading them with my son and experiencing these books for the first time together. Mom goal achieved 🥰
I enjoyed this book because I like Captain Underpants books. I did not like this book because I did not like the part when a very evil giant dandelion almost ate Captain Underpants, George, and Harold. I also did not like this book because I do not like naughty cafeteria ladies and evil zombie nerds.
This was better than #2! The pamphlet at the beginning was Star Wars themed (I think the books started near the prequels coming out maybe? So makes sense for it to be Phantom Menace inspired). We had some fun new art work concepts with literal explosions over the words. We got new super powers with a in story reason why. This one seems to be the true spring board to make a series with the books.
My favorite part was knowing that the zombie nerds were bad and turning the kids into zombie nerds. My favorite character was Mr Krupp because every time he heard a snap he turns into captain underpants. I like this story because Mr Krupp always wanted to save the day.
