Crazy for You

Rate this book
Kate would feel silly for having a crush on a fictional pirate—if he wasn’t standing right in front of her.

After discovering that her long-term boyfriend has been cheating on her, psychologist Dr. Kate Barnes decides she’s still going on their romantic Bahamas getaway—alone. Her vacation takes a turn for the weird when an eccentric bookstore owner insists Kate purchase Pirate’s Treasure, claiming it’s the perfect book for her. The more she reads, the harder it is to separate fiction from reality, especially when the devastatingly handsome Captain Blackjack swoops into her life to save her from ruffians at a bar.

As they grow closer, the similarities between the book and Kate’s real life become more pronounced. When the arrival of a puzzle-box from one of Kate’s patients launches her into a mystery that seems like it was pulled straight from the pages of Pirate’s Treasure, Kate starts to wonder if her sanity is leaving her, too.

But when bullets start flying, the book may be Kate’s only clue to solving the puzzle box—and saving her life.

Jane Fenton is an avid reader of books that combine romance, mystery, and laughter because they’re as satisfying as a triple fudge sundae—without the calories. Although she shares her heroine’s love of Roanoke City, good friends, junk food, stray dogs, and Jeep Wranglers, she’s quite happy to create these fun misadventures from the comfort of her quiet farmhouse in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia where she lives with her family.

Very predictable!!!!

The book is about Kate who is a psychologist. After finding her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend, Kate decides to go on her holiday to the Bahamas on her own. On her first day there, she finds a very mysterious bookstore whose owner urges her to buy a romance book about pirates. although she isn't into books about pirates she is intrigued and leaves the store with the book.
while reading the book at certain intervals she discovers that her life is very much mirroring what happens in the book. during the journey, she meets Garrett.
I didn't like Kate much as she was oblivious to the apparent danger that anyone can see. Garrett tells her his suspicions repeatedly but she refuses to believe.
Also Kate's decision to carry out a counselling session with a group of patients on a boat while being targeted by a ruthless gang of men is ridiculous. It just didn't make sense at all. She refuses to pick up on very clear signs that show her the intentions of her ex-boyfriend.
I just felt like Kate was living in a world of her own.
The storyline was very predictable. You could tell what was gonna happen and it was more than apparent the twist concerning Garrett past was not a mystery. It was obvious.
I started reading it but when it got to certain parts that were just not believable at all, then I lost lot of interest. I skimmed a lot of the pages after that until I got the gist of what happens and finished the book.

Pirate adventure

It was a 5-star story, but I dropped a star because of all the foul language. If I hadn’t already been caught up in the story, I wouldn’t have kept reading. Entertaining plot, great characters, lots of action. One other plus, sex was not explicit.

Really enjoyed this book. Romance, adventure, humour and a pirate. Who could ask for more. Also, smooth writing and great pacing kept me glued to the book. Looking forward to more books by this author.

This was a refreshingly different novel. 3.5 stars for Crazy for You - with a fun story just outside of reality (nearly a fantasy read). Jane Fenton was a new-to-me author and I enjoyed this book. I rarely give 5*

Occasionally I enjoy light-hearted romance suspense novels. Crazy for You falls in that category and was a delightfully original story. When Savannah psychologist Dr Kate Barnes’s/FMC well ordered life suddenly takes a few twists and turns repeatedly putting her into physical danger, Kate finds herself trusting a complete stranger - Bahamian bar owner, Garrett Hastings. The threatening misadventures occurring to Kate seem to coincide with similar events in an historical adventure novel sold to Kate by an obscure bookseller. Are the fictional incidents in the book connected to what is happening to Kate, or is it all just a coincidence? Kate runs from Savannah, GA to the Bahamas and back again in this fantasy/romance suspense novel Crazy for You.

I recommend Crazy for You to readers who prefer a light touch (rather than realistic, dark or graphic) in their fantasy, action/adventure, and/or romance suspense novels. For those readers willing to simply go with the flow and appreciate the journey, Crazy for You was an enjoyable jaunt. IMO, the humor and writing was along the line of a Stephanie Plum novel by Janet Evanovich - great fun, a good de-stresser story with a sweet HEA but one not be be taken too seriously. :D Readers who enjoy Crazy for You May wish to check out Jane Fenton’s other novels in her Repo Girl series - a series featuring fun adventures and romance.

Reader Cautions -
Violence - PG or PG-13 level. (Physical harm threatened. Self-defense shooting, and contract murders occurring off-scene. Occurs quickly, not graphic).
Profanity- yes. Occasionally+
Sexual situations - limited. Main characters are attracted to one another. Closed door/off-scene intimacy only, with little mention afterward. The adventure and growing friendship and trust of the main characters is the focus in Crazy for You, not detailing the sexual aspect of their relationship.
Due to the aforementioned, I do not recommended Crazy for You to young readers, and those that would be offended by the content should look elsewhere.

Vacation

Adult content. Fun, clean, cleaver read. Swashbuckling pirates in sword fights, high speed chases, spies, kidnappers, treasure and more can be found in this book.

Kate is planning on going on a romantic vacation with her boyfriend. Dan had to work late the night before they left so Kate decided to surprise him with dinner. Only Kate got the surprise. Dan and her best friend were doing the downward dog together in their birthday suits.

Kate took the vacation anyway. Lost her luggage, but no problem. She went into town and purchased more and some vacation literature. Then things started getting crazy. One of her patients, Roger, was showing signs of extreme paranoia so she gave him her vacation contact information. While on vacation she was informed Roger was dead and then received a package from her form patient. Trying to cope with Rogers death she downed a bottle
of champagne on the beach. Then stumbled into Garrett’s bar where she was promptly carried out and passed out after being part of a skirmish. She woke up on Garrett’s boat and this is where things got weird. Her life was running parallel to her vacation book. Was she delusional or was something… else at work? As people started coming after her, Garrett kept coming to her rescue. Would it be enough? Did the book have answers and how? Super fun.

Unfortunately, I didn’t love this book. I think a big part of it is that I just don’t really enjoy stories within stories. It’s something I’ve only read twice before (first being Misery, second being A Glitter of Gold) and I find that it takes me out of the main story. Especially when the other story is multiple pages at a time. I think maybe I underestimated just how big the other story was going to be in this book. It’s a lot.

I think my other issue is just that I never really connected very well with the characters. There were times that the way they spoke just didn’t seem natural, and parts of the story didn’t seem realistic to me. And I’m not even talking about the action parts, I was able to suspend belief more for those, but just in general something about it didn’t work for me.

However, I really adored Kate’s patients. Especially towards the end of the book, they really made me smile and laugh. I really also liked the inclusion of family in this book.

While I’m certainly not disappointed that I read this book, I do wish I had loved it a lot more than I did.

Kate Barnes discovers her boyfriend of two years in bed with her best friend on the eve of a trip to the Caribbean. Smart woman (after all she has a PhD in Psychology) goes on the vacation alone. While shopping she comes across a bookstore, and goes in. When the charming proprietor selects a book for her, Kate feels obligated to buy it, and of course read it. When her life seems to be imitating the book, things get very interesting!
Ms Fenton has a delightful way of making the characters of her book ooze realism, and they leap off the pages from one adventure to the next with energy and real feelings. From start to finish, this is a book that captures the reader's attention with plenty of humor to go along with sizzle.
A delightful book by an author who I hope will add many books to her repertoire. It was fun and fanciful with just the right amount of mystery. I loved it!

The premise of this book was imaginative and thrilling. A psychiatrist takes off on a Bermuda vacation alone, after discovering her boyfriend cheating on her. As soon as she arrives, an unusual bookseller convinces her to buy a romance novel, which uncannily starts to predict happenings on the island. There were many twists in the story, and some parts were quite funny. I would have given it five stars, but for the egregious grammar errors. For instance, comma usage was erratic. When an author names a character, that character's name should be spelled the same way throughout. Car brands and nicknames should be capitalized. Lastly, alright is NOT a word. Strangely enough, the excerpts from the romance novel had no errors.

Dr. Kate Barnes heads to the Bahamas on a romantic getaway- alone, after she discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her. Of course, Kate's bad luck continues when her luggage is lost. As she wanders through then, she finds a small bookstore. Upon the shopkeeper's recommendation, Kate buys a book about the adventures of a young woboutman and a pirate.

As far as the book, it was fine. It was an action-adventure fluffy romance. The setting was lovely. Sparks and bullets flew. So on and so forth.

But what the heck?? I would've liked a bit more world-building dealing with the similarities between the book Kate bought and the book I was reading. I feel like it was just glossed over/ignored.

Fun - Fast Pace - Entertaining- Very Good Story !

I picked this E-book from my Amazon account and read the bio on the story and it sounded interesting so I downloaded it and started reading and couldn’t put it down. The story was good from the start and just kept getting better and better. I really liked the style of author, I’m going to look for more of her books and check into reading them. I would recommend this book for a fun, fast pace, mystery for anyone.

a fun ride

This starts as a typical - find out boyfriend is cheating, go on vacation to tropical island by herself, meet hot guy. But then it takes a turn with a “magical” bookshop - is the proprietor a psychic, Cupid, a witch(?)- and a recommended romance novel. Then real life starts mirroring the novel and things really get weird. This is a fun ride with fade to black (so no) spice.

A fun premise that lacked execution. I knew there would be a need to suspend a certain amount of reality to enjoy this book, so the fantasy part of the story line wasn't an issue for me. It was the plot holes and convenient plot devices that did it in. Even in fantasy, the character's actions and plot turns need to believable within the world created.

what a page turner! the premise is super different and it felt like a wild ride - probably not realistic at all, but who cares, it's fiction and it worked! i typically don't enjoy a story within a story, but it was intriguing in this case, but i would have liked to hear more about Cassandra and the bookstore - what's going on there?!

Can I get my own Captain Blackjack, please?! ♥

DNF-Not for Me

I read the blurb and thought it was an interesting plot concept, but I just really find the book very interesting. The characters were just not that special, and the excerpts from the historical pirate romance, were cheesy. The plot just wasn’t working for me, so I DNF’d early on. It would probably work for others, but it was not for me.

It started out ok and was enjoyable to read, but really went off the rails the last third of the book. It all became quite outlandish and unbelievable. I skipped quite a bit just to get to the end. Disappointing writing.

Feel good rom/thriller/parnormal/therapy session of a can't put down book

No matter what you may enjoy reading to escape the dullness of your 'off'hours this book probably has some of 'it' .The greatness is how the other elements improve 'it'.
