This was a great and enjoyable book. There are a tonne of ideas in here and while I may not use every single one, the ones that I will use today are well worth the price.
See my in-progress notes. Don't encourage reading this unless you understand the free introduction really well. I wasn't on the author's wave length. Sad, I wanted to be.
What a great book. Such an interesting idea to tackle the framework you need in your mind to create a life as a successful author. This book is definitely original. I love how La Ronn is so practical. I’m going to read more of his books now. His mindset teaching is definitely up my alley.
This book is good for covering your blind spots. If you're like everybody else on the internet, chances are you already know about the 20/80 principle. But did you know that you could use Plato's world of forms to make your art better? That popular Ted talk videos get views for emotional reasons? I would recommend this book to any writer looking for a good laundry list of concepts they should know about. It covers fiction craft too, and had a few nuggets I couldn't get elsewhere (the part about "turn of thought" being a major but hidden driver of good fiction is solid gold. I would have paid the full price just for this section). The book comes with a huge appendix that covers all the concepts so you can go over the content in a quick reread. Personally I enjoy the author's voice too. Very warm and encouraging, but down to earth. Can recommend to commercial fiction writers.
