The Art of Falling For You

If looks could kill, I’d be a charred pile of ash on the sidewalk.

I need to know why she hates me.

Bay Bishop aka The New Girl is my new neighbor. In her glasses and stage crew black clothes she has a knack for fading into the background.

She’s probably the only one who rolls her eyes when I walk past instead of cheering on my last touchdown play. But before I can shove her into the recesses of my mind filed under “Not my problem” she lands herself smack dab in the middle of my dreams.

I catch her singing with a voice unlike any I’ve heard before that taps into feelings I shouldn’t have for the girl who avoids me at all costs.

With three months until graduation, the final play is on. Only it’s not for more points. It’s for Bay.

Unlike my success on the field, this win is anything but assured. But I can’t stop myself from taking the risk.

There’s no flashing scoreboard.
There’s no cheering crowd.
There’s only her and me.

The countdown clock is ticking. The only thing scarier than finding my first love will be losing her.

The Art of Falling for You is the first book in the new Fulton U universe sports romance, Falling trilogy.

... The art of football and music.

Finally, I've found another one of those few stories that takes place during high school that I ended up loving. No bullshit and stressful drama. No immature characters. No overly familiar plotline. This was much more original than what I thought it would be. The emotions on the surface were overwhelming, in a good way. I sensed sweetness, love, pleasure, pain, hatred, and all the other feelings that I can't put into words. I felt the main characters soul deep connection and attraction for one another. I had already expected since the beginning that this would be an emotional and angsty ride, I was armored heart and mind, but, surprisingly, the story still shredded me into pieces.

Note: This is a high school, sports romance.

"I closed my eyes, pulling together the frayed edges of the blanket of my mind and cocooning myself in the musical beauty, blocking out everything except for the music and Dare."

The Art of Falling for You is the first book in the Falling trilogy.

Dare was a popular football player who wasn't dealt an easy life. Getting accepted in his college application and leaving his terrible home life were his main priorities. Bay, on the other hand, had her own struggles. She was known as "The New Girl" from the day she first met Dare and remained socially invisible ever since. Bay expressed her feelings in writing songs and singing. But when she'd lost someone she loved, she also lost her ability to sing without remembering the pain of her past.

"Maybe I could force him to feel the way he made me feel."

Their story had begun four years ago, when Dare saw her singing in her backyard. He saw the real her who carried the same grief, pain, and loneliness. Being together, though secretly, both helped them to heal. Dare gave her the strength to sing, and hearing Bay sang gave him the sense of peace and hopefulness. It had brought them together, but it was also what separated them apart.

The story has the element of slow burn that made it more interesting and engaging. It warmed my heart and broke it at the same time seeing them denying the pull they had toward each other because of the anticipation of hurting themselves when they eventually went on with their own lives.

"She was my heart. Watching her leave would be like cutting it out and letting it out in the world walking around without me."

This book wasn't all emotional, y'all know. It also has the sweetest moments, angsty moments, swoon-worthy moments, and the hottest moments that I think you won't want to miss. Well, I don't have anything to say about this book that I didn't like. What can I say? I have yet to read a book by Maya Hughes that I don't enjoy. I loved her writing. I loved her stories. I loved her characters, especially her unlikely paired characters that she always manage to develop and connect so well, internally and externally.

Overall, I absolutely loved the book. It was such an amazing start and I want more of Dare and Bay. Bring on the next one!

I highly recommend this to those who likes: Maya Hughes, high school, sports, slow burn, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, second chance, emotional read, and a cliffhanger.

"I wasn’t intrigued. I wasn’t infatuated. I was in love."

i think i'm ready to finally admit defeat and accept that maya hughes' books just aren't for me. there's absolutely nothing objectively wrong with her writing. i just never seem to connect with her characters or buy their chemistry.

i did appreciate the unique elements to this story and i did appreciate that the characters behaved correctly for their age. that kinda sounds weird, but oftentimes in new adult books set in high school you have characters that act like they're 30. this was definitely believably over emotional and felt very teenage to me.

but i gotta say, the conflict at the very end of the book enraged me. and that's really the first time i felt emotion while reading this one. which isn't a good sign.

He was chiseled, in an ‘I’ll sweet talk you with bloody knuckles’ kind of way. He was the epitome of the boy from the other side of the tracks, only instead of a motorcycle, he drove a muscle car.

I'm obsessed! I'm absolutely blown away! This story owned me from beginning to finish and is one of my favorite Maya Hughes books to date. When I tell you that this is going up there with my favorite NA romances, I mean the last time I was this obsessed, was when I was reading the Tristan and Danika trilogy.
She was absolute trouble. Who’d have known my late-night bike riding, guitar playing, stage crew maven neighbor could be so dangerous to my sanity? But here I was, and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Now look, when I learned this was a trilogy, I was hesitant to pick it up. I have the worst ADD when it comes to trilogies. But the second I started this book, I knew I'd be desperately awaiting each installment because the story OWNED me.

The way that Maya decided to write this angsty second chance romance is absolutely brilliant. We get a glimpse into Bay's present, only to be thrown right into the past four years ago and watch as she falls for the boy next door. All the while knowing that their slow burn romance is meant to blow apart in the most painful of ways. But I'll get to that in a second.
He’d demolished me. I’d been so worried about fixing him, but I should’ve been preparing to fix myself when he shattered me. Cruel. Violent. Vicious.

Bay and Dare are neighbors, but there's no love lost between them at first. While Dare is utterly captivated by the girl next door, Bay can't seem to give him the time time of day. If you're a fan of the good girl meets tortured boy trope, prepare yourself for one addicting read.

While Bay is the social outcast of their high school, Dare is the golden boy tight end with a tragic story that he struggles to hide from everyone. This is the ultimate opposites attract story, and the most delicious slow burn. Bay is just looking to survive her final year of high school and the last thing she wants is the spotlight from the attention of the football team's golden boy. Dare can't seem to stop chasing her, and eventually the attraction between them blooms into a friendship that ultimately becomes a love that neither expected or was prepared for.

The feels! OH MY GOD THE FEELS of this book. The sweet, delicious angst. The emotion. I lived for it. Watching them fall for each other, all the while knowing what looms ahead was the sweetest sort of torture. It was like you knew that train wreck was coming, and you knew it would demolish you, but you couldn't look away. And oh my god did it demolish me. But nothing and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING could have prepared me for the last lines of this book.

If I thought I was obsessed with this story before, the last line OWNED ME. I won't spoiler it for you, and I highly recommend you avoid reading too many reviews and just go into this book absolutely blind. TRUST ME.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to rock myself in a dark corner while I wait for book two. Because GAH. JUST GAH.

What the H just happened?

It was my fault for not reading it is a freakin’ trilogy... so yes, it’s not a standalone, it ends with a cliffhanger but honestly... I don’t even care anymore.

It took me three weeks and like ten books in between chapters to finish this. By 60% I was bored out of my mind and couldn’t care less about Bay and a little bit of Dare. The only thing that made me finish the book was because of the beginning, which was four years later and I wanted to know what happened then! But no, of course not, that’s the cliffhanger.

So yes, unless you are a fan of the author, I wouldn’t recommend this one, it was so slow paced, H’s character could have been built better with so many things going on in his life that the author could have developed, and h’s... she was a plain character, so simple it was painful to watch.

So the plot sounded good, but I didn’t like how it was developed.

The Art of Falling for You was a bittersweet read. While it was sweet watching two people who were going through some heavy things in life fall in love, it was also hard to watch them both struggle with their own individual damage and trying to navigate falling in love with someone they didn’t see coming. Dare is the popular football player who wants to get out of their town and make something of himself. Bay is the girl who lost her father and wants so badly to follow her dreams, but can’t always find her voice. These two together are just so sweet and tragic. You can really empathize with their struggles, but overall they had a sweet romance. That being said this is a trilogy, so clearly there are issues and things don’t end perfectly in book one, you’ll just have to read it to see where Bay and Dare end up and where they are going!

”When are you going to learn, I’m always watching you, Bay?”

description

I’m finally out of my slump and it’s all thanks to this book! I had been craving for a contemporary high school romance for so long now and I finally found one that ticked majority of my boxes.

The book starts off with a sneak peek of the present time where Dare and Bay meet again, 4 years after high school. There’s obviously some unfinished business and tension between them.

Then we are sent back to the past where we get to read about how they meet, get together and why they went their separate ways after graduation. Dare and Bay have been in the same school since the past three years, but Dare actually notices her the day he hears her singing in her backyard. Her voice pulled something deep within him and since then he regretted all the years he wasted not knowing her. With just three months left before graduation he is determined to break through Bay’s wall and get to know her better. They both have a beautiful story! They go from being strangers to becoming each other’s support. Their cute little banters! Absolutely loved them.

“I don’t want you to say anything, okay?”
“Like, ever again?” I smiled, but he still wore the serious face that made my stomach leap into my throat. His finger ran across my lips.
“Smartass.”

Her guitar sat beside the bed. “Can you sing something for me?”
Her fingers skimmed along my forehead. “I can sing for as long as you’d like.”

description

Also Dare was the star of the book for me. I legit cried for him! I’m so glad he has a friend like Knox by his side. The moment they had towards the end 😭😭😭. I hope they are still friends in the future.

description

However, a small thing did bother me and that was how they went from being school mates who hardly ever spoke to each other to a “thing” a little too quickly for my liking. Again this is my personal preference, you might actually think it’s completely okay 🤷🏽‍♀️

The book does end with a cliffhanger! since this series is a trilogy.

And all I’m going to say about the ending is that, I really hope in the next book its not just Dare getting all the heat. For me Bay messed up too.

me: yeah i love angsty books, that's really my thing yk BRING THE PAIN!!!!

also me: MAYA HUGHES WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING? I HAVE A WEAK HEART DON'T PLAY WITH MY FEELINGS THAT WAY!

"I’d been so worried about fixing him, but I should’ve been preparing to fix myself when he shattered me. Cruel. Violent. Vicious."

The Art of Falling For You is the first installment in a new Maya Hughes trilogy, bringing all the angst and feels of a high school first love that is very likely to break your heart and then put it back together again (in the next books bc there's only pain here in case you need to know).

Something I love about this book is how the story is told with them meeting again, and then going back to the beginning of their story to introduce these characters and how their love story began in their senior year of high school.

Both Bay and Dare are living a secret life, sneaking around, but it's only a few months before they can be free and leave this town that holds such bad memories behind. But it only took Dare to hear his neighbor sing that their lives would be intertwined forever, and all those plans to go away and leave everything behind become more complicated.

These characters were amazing as a couple and individually. They both have a lot of emotional baggage, which caused many fears to creep into their relationship sometimes making things difficult for them. Keeping in mind that Dare and Bay are teenagers, there was a lot of push and pull here, and also a bit of the miscommunication trope, which I hope will lead us to see how their relationship will grow from there, and also make them grow as people.

Overall, this book DESTROYED ME and I wasn't expecting this from a high school romance, but it was so angsty it hit really hard! I really can't wait for the next installments to see what these characters have been up to this time apart, how much they have grown, and how everything is going to work out. Dare is a character that has been under our noses for a while and was eager to know his story, and Bay had me from the get-go, so they are firmly making their way as another of my favorite Maya couples 💘!

Ahhh this was a bittersweet read. My heart darn near exploded with happiness in parts , but then it also shattered in parts --- and it's not quite mended back together yet. This was original and not like most high school books I've read. It was raw and emotional, but yet beautiful.
The start of Dare and Bay's story. It was mostly told in the past and we got to see them grow in love and grow in themselves.

Dare... I love that boy. He is broken, broody and hurting. Trying to keep it hidden from everyone near him. He has to keep up appearances and not let any of of his weaknesses show. He is sweet and caring. He lives and breathes football.. that might be the only chance he has to live his crappy life behind. He can't lose it... no matter what.

Bay is also hurting, but in different ways. She is trying to be strong and hold it all together. Her music is her solace. She can truly be content and free when she plays her guitar. She doesn't play for anyone... but, one night she has a audience of one. Her neighbor Dare hears her play.
He is intrigued and it was like a siren song for him. It called to his heart.

I didn't know it wasn't a standalone so I'll be starting on book 2 asap! I need to know what happens after that ending.

Honestly, this book took me by surprise, I was waiting for a sweet and cute romance like in Maya´s previous books, and even if this book is all of those things it's also very angsty, which made me love it even more.
I love how the sole focus of the book was introducing us to Dare and Bay and their relationship, I think it was a perfect way for readers to connect with the story, the characters and to understand them better, this way a second chance romance with time jump doesn't seem boring or with not build up.
The characters were also phenomenal, and the plot twist at the end... yeah never saw that coming, but after all, it made so much sense, I cant wait to see how their story will develop in the next 2 books, I need them to get their happy ending <3

11/3/21:
I had NO idea that this work was part of an instalment read
NO idea it would end on a cliffhanger
NO idea that this instalment is literally a big flashback
NO idea I’d have to wait 2 more books for their story to wrap up

I enjoyed it because I was unaware of ☝🏼and Dare is adorable.
By the time I realised what was happening I was at the last chapter

I’ll wait for spoilers for the next book because I’m not sure I like where this is going.
Both the Hxh made mistakes but it seems like only he’s the bad guy at the end of this book.
This is definitely not the case.
In fact, she betrays him and his explosive reaction to that betrayal has her knickers in a knot.
So they’re both at fault, but apparently only he has to grovel...

No OW or OM drama
No cheating

I knew going into this one that it was part of a trilogy, but I just couldn’t help myself. If Maya Hughes writes it, I’ve got to read it. Especially since she writes the best new adult, sports romance. Seriously she has the exact recipe to perfectly balance the sexual tension, angst, drama, and emotion. So, I look forward to reading these books so much even though I know there is a high chance I’m going to cry like a baby.

And yeah, I cried. But in my defence, I was so invested in both of these characters that I felt their pain. Dare was so perfectly broken that no one could see the cracks in his king of campus persona, and I wanted someone to see his pain and fix everything that was going wrong for him. Then there’s Bay. Oh My God, Bay. I loved her. She was living her own personal hell in high school, but she had so much to be sad about outside of high school, but she wasn’t mopey or whiny. She was just getting on with it biding her time to get the hell out of Dodge.

They were the most unlikely of couples, but they worked so well to smooth each other’s broken edges. From the first conversation I loved Bay. She wasn’t at all impressed with who Dare was because he wasn’t anyone special to her. And she was just as anonymous to him as she was to everyone else in the school. I loved that they each had a lot going on in their lives in the background of their relationship. But I really would have killed to know more about what the deal was with Bay’s extracurricular activities and her Mum’s feelings towards it.

I couldn’t read this fast enough, and at the same time I was dreading every page turn. Because now I have to wait to get my hands on the next one. And then again on the one after that. And I really need to know what is going to happen now. I need to see Dare grovel hard and make some serious amends. I need to know what has happened since graduation. I just need MORE.

The Art of Falling For You is the start to Bay and Dare's story and oh my word did I love them! The book follows them in High School when Dare first takes notice of Bay and see's her as more than just "The New Girl" that's been at school for three years already.

He was the typical jock around most people but with Bay Dare was more than that. He became vulnerable and shared things with her he hadn't shared with anyone else and Bay also opened up more around Dare. I loved that connection they had where they felt so comfortable with each other. Of course it wasn't an easy start for them and Bay especially wasn't as trusting of that connection but they worked through that and eventually became very close.

Like I said, this was the start to their story and there is definitely a lot more to come from Bay and Dare which I'm dying for. I'm not usually a cliffhanger reader and usually avoid trilogies but I'm a big fan of Maya Hughes and knew it would be worth the read.

The way Maya wrote this book was FREAKIN' GENIUS! We all love second chances but wonder what happened that caused them to break up well, in this lovely piece of work we are give the back story and what a story it is!

This story grabbed me right away, A chance encounter and you could hear the heartbreak in just the way they said each others names to know they had some crazy past and then BOOM we are getting it. Maya takes us back four years and gives us the story of how Dare and Bay met, ultimately fell in love and everything that happened between that and them ending things. And what a story it was, I didn't want to put it down.

I have been a fan of Maya Hughes' for a couple of years now and this is why. You have to read this book if you are a fan of New Adult Romances, Girl Next Door Romances, or even First Love Romances, and if you read the FULTON U Series you will want to read this I promise you will not be sorry you did.

I cannot wait to get my hand on their next book in the trilogy, I have to know what happens next for Dare and Bay.

Happy Reading!!!

21/03/21: reread this and still crying

-

Now that I’ve slightly calmed down from the high, let me say a few things about this book.

This book. I’m a 100% sure that this is my favourite book by Maya Hughes to date. I’ve enjoyed her books from Fulton U and so I had certain expectations of her writing style etc.

But wow...this one blew out of the water. I’m still reeling from the impact I felt when I hit 100%.

I started this book completely blind and so I’ll provide a bit of a summary in case you are too. This story takes place in a small-town neighbourhood and stars the two main characters, Bay and Dare. They’re neighbours who have been attending the same school for three years yet have never spoken to each other albeit living side by side. This is a story of how two lost souls find solace in each other and not going to lie, I shed a tear here and there.

The story starts off with a surprise reconciliation between the two characters. It’s four years later and Bay and Dare finally meet each other again. It continues with a flashback to four years before and to be honest, I was not expecting the entire story to be a flashback. I assumed the flashback would last for a few chapters, but still I found myself enjoying reading their history.

Bay is literally the biggest sweetheart I swear she hasn’t done anything wrong in life. She’s definitely my favourite female MC by the author to date. She’s an introvert who just wants to mind her own business and do what she loves most...until she and her neighbour finally exchange a few words. Although she mostly keeps to herself, she has a snarky side to her and it comes out when she’s around her best friend and of course, Dare.

After a certain incident enters Dare who’s determined to say something to Bay and get to know her better. From the beginning, we have an idea of his life but not entirely the full picture, so he was quite an enigma to me. However you could tell he’s been harbouring things and there’s a lot more than meets the eye to him.

Now let’s talk about their interactions. I am so obsessed with them? There’s just something about popular and not-so popular characters living right next to each other and I love that trope to death. The idea of seeing them in school and even when you’re at home because they live not even a block away from you is *chef’s kiss*.

Bay and Dare have such a beautiful relationship. With all that’s happening in their lives, they become each other’s anchor and pillar of support. I literally couldn’t stop flipping the pages because I was rooting for them.

I don’t think I have anything negative to say, really, because I loved this book so much. I’m kind of sad that it ends in a cliffhanger because I wasn’t expecting that and thought the conflict would be resolved by the end. Nonetheless, I’m definitely excited for the sequel and I can’t wait to read more of Bay and Dare’s story <3 I’m assuming it will take place in the present from there onwards.

Also as a final note...the ending...Maya Hughes you absolute genius. i really should’ve seen it coming but in my defence, like i said, i totally went into this blind. very grateful though <3333

This is going to be the longest-winded get-to-point review I've written in a long time. Bear with me - it'll make sense.

Maya Hughes, in my opinion, writes accessible young adult/ new adult romance. Those who run in the same reading group circles know that I tend to shy away from the genre as a 'more' mature adult. I often find I cannot relate or maybe they remind me too much of the kids. LOL However, Maya has a storytelling voice that makes these characters accessible regardless of your age that you can relate to and engage in your journey. With that said...

The trilogy is frickin' bloody brilliant. Seriously this is the best Maya Hughes has ever written.

Yes, this is Bay and Dare's love story. It is a I love finding out how two souls meet and find each other as the story unfolds. It's the overcoming of the obstacles that I love to read. My second truth is I'm not usually a fan of the trilogy format. I am now the child of instant gratification and want it all now. Yet, this story could not be told in one sitting. There is so much to be said and their journey takes the course over the books it needs. There is something that the reader needs to experience to enjoy this epic love tale.

Now to book 1 -

Things I loved:
- We get this fabulously written back story. We get to know these two imperfect characters on a deeper level. Not just love and lust - but what experiences shaped them.
- You need this story of how they met, their personal obstacles because...later.
- It's the opposites attract but in a hundred times is the perfect person for the other.
- This is first love. That butterflies, this person is my world story. Until it is not.
- You need to hold onto these characters as they were to see how they will be.
- Piper and Knox, Bay's mom, all these wonderful side characters bring depth to the story of the primary characters. Seeing the MCs through their eyes.
- Did I say this is frickin' brilliant writing?

Things to consider:
- This is a rant for the back row readers so pay attention: This is a trilogy. Falling books 1, 2, and 3. This is a trilogy story of a single couple arc love story told in three books. This means there will be the dreaded 'cliffhanger'. Whether it be a minor 6" step or a major Mt Everest size cliff, that is the nature of a trilogy. If you decided to wait until all three books are out, you do you. But this is a no-fly zone for whining and complaining. Y'all be waiting 4 weeks - I had to wait months. So there you go rant over.
- Your heart will hurt in different ways for the main characters. But the pain needs to exist for the characters to grow.

If you haven't gathered, I had the opportunity to beta read this trilogy. Note I am a member of Maya's team, but my reviews come from the heart. I know what readers are going to experience so it is difficult not to let the experience of the whole color the review words of book one. So, I'll stop here with -

My recommendation: Buy It

Hmmm.... I decided to give this book 3 stars. I like Miss Hughes's books in the past. She is the queen of NA romance.
The Art of Falling For You does not hit all the mark I needed.

Instead the story between Dare and Bay seems stagnan in the middle with each character deal with their own past and family. I got bored. Only about 30% toward the end, the plot picks up but I feel it was too late to save the whole books.

Since the story will continue into the next book, I still interested to pick it up later.

“I wish you could feel the way your songs make me feel. It’s like you’ve cracked open my chest and you’re holding my heart in your hands.”

Maya Hughes's new series is here!! The Art of Falling For You is the first installment of three, and Bay and Dare already own my heart, I just want to give them big hugs :(

Bay and Dare have been attending the same high school for the past three years and also happen to be neighbors, but despite living so close to each other, they never spoke or noticed each other... until Bay's guitar and singing reach Dare's ears. With only a few months left until graduation, they are both ready to leave this town and start a new chapter of their lives, but entering into each other's lives will make them wish for more time together.

I'm a big fan of Maya Hughes's work and I still think about LJ and Marisa every day, so I was very excited to dive into this trilogy. I went in completely blind and it was such a nice surprise! It took me some chapters to get into the story, but then I was fully invested in Bay and Dare's story and completely fell in love with them. The first chapter starts in the present with Bay and Dare seeing each other for the first time in four years. The rest of the book is set in the past and gives a better insight into the beginning of their relationship. At first, I didn't expect the "past part" to last the whole book, but it was more interesting, and it wouldn't have felt the same with only a few flashback chapters. As I said, I loved the main characters A LOT, their story even made me shed some tears, and I'm very VERY curious to know what will happen next for Bay and Dare, especially after THAT ending!!!

Courtesy of Dare, Bay has been known as the new girl for three years, but she doesn't care. She is minding her own business and is determined to follow her dreams and follow in her late father's steps. She is an introvert, but she is not afraid to stand up for herself and stays alert when Dare takes an interest in her. On the outside, Dare appears to be the popular jock of the school, but after a few chapters, the label is debunked. He remains an enigma for most of the book, but you understand that he suffers a lot. The more time he spends with Bay, the more he forgets his problems and feels that everything is going to be okay. So Dare is determined to prove to Bay that he is serious about her.

Bay and Dare were so precious together. They are both lost souls, and it was beautiful to read that they had found peace and comfort in each other. I love the way their relationship evolved and the way they were in their little bubble every time they were together, like Bay playing guitar and singing for Dare, and Dare drawing Bay!! My precious babies <3 They also sort of served the shy girl/popular guy trope, and god knows I'm a sucker for this trope. The ending broke my heart, and I can't wait to know how they are going to reconnect, and also what happened to them after high school.

Also, Maya Hughes is a genius!!! It took me a few chapters to connect all the dots, but I still freaked out when I read the last two words of the book. I usually don't like books that end with a cliffhanger, but this is worth it, and I'm so excited up for what's next!!

I didn't realize this book was YA. There was nothing really wrong with the story, but there just wasn't enough happening in my opinion and it was a tad immature and naive. This would've been a good read for my teenage daughter to enjoy, I wanted more out of it tho.

Im hoping book 2 is a little bit more mature since it's 4years later

I love a good second chance romance, and Maya Hughes gives her readers an amazing one in The Art of Falling For You, the first book in her new Falling trilogy. I was immediately sucked into Bay and Dare's story, so much so that I lost track of time reading the start of what I'm sure will be a beautiful and epic romance.

Bay and Dare's lives were anything but easy. They both had some heavy things to deal with, and I felt that loss, that disappointment and that pain right along with them. Hughes left me in tatters as she took me through their heartbreak. They were two damaged souls looking for an escape, and they found that in each other. They helped to heal one another.

An engrossing, second chance, slow-burn romance, The Art of Falling For You was angsty, sweet and full of every single feel. Hughes exceptional storytelling was on point, and I couldn't flip the pages on my kindle quick enough. I loved each and every second of this story, and I'm already on the edge of my seat waiting for more. Five stars for Bay, Dare and TAOFFY!

3 Stars 🌟

I really struggled to connect with the story and couple in this one which is a shame considering I have been anticipating this story for quite some time now. Certain parts of the story dragged and felt lack luster but I did enjoy the last 10% so I will give the second book a chance.

oh jeez, should've done more research on this before diving in. didn't realize this was a trilogy! no wonder it was so slow.

tbh i couldn't get into it. i didn't feel the connection between the MCs and even individually they didn't interest me at all. i am curious as to what's going to happen to them but 2 more books!? that's a lot of angst i'm not up for.

If you love high school & sports romance books then this new series is for you.

It follows Bay (The New Girl) who likes to fade into the background and Dare the popular footballer.
Dare catches Bay singing one day and that’s the start of such a sweet love story but their time is running out until they graduate and move away to University.

This book was INCREDIBLE! I’m so excited to read the rest of the Falling series! Bay and Dare own my whole heart and I’m so excited to read more of their story! It had me hooked from start to finish.

I had to change my review because in the next the third book she decides to separate them for another 6 years. This trilogy isn’t safe and spans 10 years. I feel pretty frauded right now. I would not have read this series if I had known that.

"Because I hadn’t had a choice. From the first note, she’d wound herself around a part of my soul. She’d brought me out of the haze and into the light."

This is the first book in the falling trilogy with a basic plotline but the writing made it shine so bright that I was too engrossed and didn't even realise when it came to it's end. Bay & Dare's connection was so real and the gradual progress of their relationship felt really smooth and natural. Since this is a second chance romance, I knew there would be some angst but I didn't anticipate the emotions to be portrayed so beautifully that they reached to my heart!

“How it was like you reached down deep into my soul and started planting your mark without me even knowing it?”

Dare Keyton was a popular football player who had decent grades and just wanted to get away from his small town if any college accepted him because he wanted to leave his house where all his memories were tainted by his rough childhood. His life seemed to be thrust into a dark hole without any light but it stopped hurting so much when he heard his neighbor girl sing alone in her back porch and he was captivated by her voice so much that he couldn't help but seek her out.
Bay Bishop was just "The New Girl" for everybody in her school. She was shy, liked to remain in the shadows as much as possible but she had a gifted talent of singing and making new songs passed on to her by her dad.

“I wish you could feel the way your songs make me feel. It’s like you’ve cracked open my chest and you’re holding my heart in your hands.”

Both Dare & Bay helped each other heal and get over their own insecurities. They brought each other a sense of calm and belonging. From when Dare finally noticed Bay, I was just constantly looking forward for their next meetings. They had me entrapped because I felt connected with them. There were some sad, heartbreaking moments but there were also soft, heartwarming and swoon worthy moments that were absolutely brilliant. Overall the book was engaging and had me feeling so many things. I'm so excited to read what happens next because of the cliffhanger in the epilogue and I'm going to read the next book right away!

The Art of Falling For You is the first book of the Falling series!! I enjoyed the beginning of these character’s story and how it all began with them. The love and the loss. The happiness and the heartache.

I really liked the way Maya wrote this book. I honestly think it was a great start to a series. It introduced the main characters well and it made me want to know what happens after. Both character’s personalities might be different in certain aspects but I think the things that they do seem to have the same is the strong emotions they have within them and how in some cases it ends up building them or slowly breaking them apart. I think it really helps that from now on it’s all about what happens after and how the characters carry on from the moments that they went through.

I can’t wait for what’s to come in the series!! With a great start like this book I just know Maya Hughes has more up her sleeve with these two characters, and their journey sure will be a wild one with many emotions to go around.

FIVE FALLING STARS for Bay and Dare 💙💚💙💚!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

After reading the "Fulton U" series, I thought nothing could surprise me anymore when it came to Maya's writing.

But I was so wrong...

The new "Falling" series deserves a lot of attention because it carries a touch of the previous series, but it also has its peculiarities that will stop you from putting this book down.

Maya did a great job!

"The Art of Falling For You" is a second chance romance book that will melt your heart, but also break it into a thousand pieces and you'll enjoy every minute of reading it.

If you've read and loved Maya's previous books, then you should read this book as soon as possible!!!

Highly recommended!!!

P. S. Can't wait to read "The Sin of Kissing You"!!!

I’m obsessed! The Art of Falling For You is the beginning of Maya Hughes’ newest series. Bittersweet and filled with intense emotions, this second chance romance is distinct in contrast to her usual humorous, wholesome romances we’re accustomed to, but the angst-ridden nature of this narrative will grab your heart and twist your soul just the same.

I’d been so worried about fixing him, but I should’ve been preparing to fix myself when he shattered me. Cruel. Violent. Vicious.

Without hesitation, Bay Bishop is my newest favourite heroine from this author. She’s an honest character who’s authentic, true to self and overall an awesome, humble woman with unrivalled determination, feistiness and sassiness. She’s an absolute sweetheart; the kind of heroine you’d want to become your best friend.

He was chiseled, in an ‘I’ll sweet talk you with bloody knuckles’ kind of way. He was the epitome of the boy from the other side of the tracks, only instead of a motorcycle, he drove a muscle car.

Dare shocked me in numerous ways; he isn’t just bold or confident. Behind the initial surface of the loved and revered footballer, there's an incredible human, a shattered man underneath. He is full of intense complexities and formidable strengths and unfathomable intricacies weaved together to create my next favourite book boyfriend.

“I wish you could feel the way your songs make me feel. It’s like you’ve cracked open my chest and you’re holding my heart in your hands.”

Even though they have immeasurable attributes as individual characters, Bay and Dare together are explosive and wondrous. I adored the scenes that featured them together; the chemistry between them is earnest and sincere; the connection a fervent slow burn that electrified my entire core, that encouraged me to develop an unwavering need to have more of them. It was delightfully enchanting watching them evolve together.

The Art of Falling For You is such a stellar introduction to this familiar but different world featuring hot, irresistible footballers; slow burn, second chance romance; and the most delectable, electrified encounters between Bay and Dare. I usually stay far away from trilogies as they tend to be long-winded, but the Falling series has hooked me in—I can’t wait to witness the remainder of their heart wrenching journey.

“I wanted to hear her words. Know her feelings.Know her heart. Suddenly , the thing I’d been searching for was sitting beside me, the girl next door.”

This is definitely the start of something beautiful.

I don’t even know how to describe what I just read . There aren’t enough word to make justice to this terrific story.

It’s the most sweet and passionate ride on a never ending rollercoaster of emotions .

Bay and Dare’s lives weren’t easy , they both had to deal with some pretty heavy things . They were two damaged souls looking for a way out , an escape. And then they realized they had found it in each other.

“With her in my arms, the unknown wasn’t some monster lurking in the dark, threatening to leave me battered and bruised . It was a place I could finally let my guard down completely”

They were like magnet , they attracted each other . There was no way of escaping those feelings .

Their journey wasn’t easy , and it was kind of a slow burn . A flame that stared burning since their first real interaction . Sometimes it takes very little to connect two souls , and that’s what they did.

” She pressed her weight into me , and suddenly I wasn’t the one being held , I was holding her like I was afraid a breeze would blow her away”

And that cliffhanger at the end it’s what makes this book even more special . Trust me , if you’re a loyal reader of Maya’s you’ll love this story , there’s no way you won’t .

” I’d played with fire and been engulfed in flames–first of desire , but now of pain. “

I can’t wait for all of you to read this one!

I gave it 63483 stars

I hope you’ll enjoy it like I did.

ENJOY.
