This is Gabriel's story. Nic and Thibeau play very small roles, and it is all via some from of long-distance communication; they never show up on page. So, if you just happened to pick this book up, it can be read as a standalone. The characters are well developed throughout the story, and there are very few editing issues.
Gabriel is a Législateur, in charge of policing the magical world of New Orleans, and protecting the humans from magical happenings. He is brought into an investigation involving two prominent members of the magical community. Evidence found at the scene leads him to a suspicious...creature...that he immediately takes into custody.
Marchand is a very conflicted man. He believes there is something off about his life and what he has been told since he awoke from a coma, but he doesn't understand what is wrong. It's not until he is 'kidnapped' by Gabriel, this crazy man who believes in magic of all things, that he begins to feel any better.
Throughout Marchand's 'stay' in Gabriel's apartment, the two men get to know each other, and Gabriel develops a tentative trust in his suspect and captive. However, after an experience unlike anything Marchand has ever known, things change dramatically.
Family from places never expected begin to show up looking for Marchand. In the meantime, a dangerous weapon is discovered and must be found. When the serious bad guys show up in this realm, s#!+ gets real, really quickly. An unlikely relative shows up to end the battle, but Marchand is in more danger than before.
The unlikely quad of heroes must overcome unforeseen circumstances, and Gabriel must prove his love for Marchand in order to be able to aid in the battle to come. And, although their family knows that their enemies will return for Marchand one day, I feel that our MCs get their HEA.
Happy reading!
