Pig Will minds his manners, but naughty Pig Won't won't! In three stories, Pig Won't learns to play nicely, help with chores, and always say please and thank you. Richard Scarry's beloved characters make these cautionary tales more fun than didactic.
RICHARD SCARRY is one of the world's best-loved children's authors EVER! In his extraordinary career, Scarry illustrated over 150 books, many of which have never been out of print. His books have sold over 100 million copies around the world, and are currently published in over twenty languages. No other illustrator has shown such a lively interest in the words and concepts of early childhood. Richard Scarry was posthumously awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Illustrators in 2012.
If real life were like this, no one would ever make bad choices. Richard Scarry lays it on pretty thick when Pig Won't makes poor decisions. The parent in me kinda liked reading about a fantasy world where discipline is never needed because natural consequences take over.
This book presents as children should be taught at this age. Repetition and pleasant illustrations. This lays out good and bad and results of poor choices. This flies into the face of so many today deluded that there can be no good or bad. That is until something bad happens and then the blinders fall away. If they would just read and remember this book, their troubles would fall away.
The artwork is, as usual, tremendous with the typical Scarry nuance.
Bottom line: I recommend this book. 10 out of 10 points.
For parents, an absolute schadenfreude outlet of a book, about a stubborn little pig who refuses to help anyone and as a result gets in the way of his own fun. Who doesn't relate to the narrator who, when Pig Won't suffers consequences for his tantrum-y behavior, says, 'I can't feel sorry for you, Pig Won't.'?
My toddler also enjoys it, especially the appearance of THAT MISTER FRUMBLE making a mess of things at the store.
Usually my 2 year old granddaughter and I like Richard Scarry books; but this one (at least this format) was TOO busy for us. I read through about four pages and I had lost her and it was even kind of hard for me to follow to read. There are to many illustrations on the page and the text is EVERYWHERE on the pages! From what little I did read it's about two brothers one that is good and does things as he is asks and in turn is able to get fun rewards and the other doesn't do anything (or WONT do anything) and thus misses out on fun things. Although I think at the end of the book Pig Won't gets sick and eventually learns that being that stubborn and rude isn't nice and learns that minding his parents and other adults is much better.
Wished I could give this more than 2 stars but it's just much to busy for our liking...
