Unveiled: A Poetry Memoir, is a collection of poetry organized into three sections: My Story, My Pain, and My Future. It was written for those that need to release their past, experience their pain, and look forward to their future. It was not written to instill pity or sorrow within you, but to spark the fire in your soul to take action and find the smallest shimmer of hope in your darkest days.
Strong Fierce & Resilient. Don't forget, that you are too.
This collection of poetry is deep -- it hits pieces of me that I usually just push away from my mind because it's painful to think about. To read it in words, beautifully written, somehow it made me feel heard. And just by reading about it feels like a thorn has been pulled.
Such a perfectly done book! Ivy's stories are captured in an honest and incredibly well put together set of poems. There is pain and beauty tied into her journey of self-discovery and the grandeur act of her own unveiling. Her memories are relatable in more ways than one to anyone who has dealt with the turmoils of a hectic home life and the repercussions that follow. Ivy's flow through her poetry memoir guides the reader from start to finish, experiencing a range of emotions and inquisitions along the way. An overall read that can be quick and to the point, as well as savored and slowly ruminated over. Well done!
This really does feel like a poetic memoir! I appreciate the vulnerability and honesty in this collection. While i haven't experienced many of the themes in this collection, Cirillo writes in a way that put me into their shoes. My favorite pieces were found toward the end of the collection. Poems about writing and positivity, such as "A Journey With Words" and "Dear Future Self" were my favorites.
This isn’t the normal poetry I would pick up. But this author really spilled their heart into this book and I can appreciate that. This book is split up into 3 parts. My story, my pain, and my future.
I can appreciate the authors work because you can see how much pain they have been through and had to overcome and this was a cool way of introducing themself into the poetry world.
Also the constellations were a really nice touch! The book is aesthetically pleasing so that’s always a bonus.
Wow. Just wow. Ivy has a way with words that speaks wonders with simple language. The first two sections were so raw and honest that I was almost moved to tears, but the last section switched to a message so inspiring that it made me understand that she has made the best out of her life. It’s so clear to me that Ivy is a strong woman who has overcome a lot and her amazing words speak to that.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The way Ivy opened up about her past traumas was extremely inspiring to me and made me resonate deeply with each poem, feeling like I could see inside her mind at those dark moments.
This book was just what the title promised, a poetry memoir. The author has had a heartbreaking time in life and most of the poems were very deep. My only critic was that about 75% of the book was emotionally heavy to read, so I needed to take frequent breaks to get through it even though the poems weren't very long. Overall a great read though and glad it ended on a more uplifting note at the end.
I've never done a half rating but 5/5 is reserved for all my 'rereads.' While I could see a reread in the future.....with this particular book and theme, I would only want to reread the uplifting and encouraging parts. That's not to say I won't revisit the whole thing. Even her poems in the first part "My Story," I felt comforted. In so few words, and in poetry - known for lyrical, beauty and escapism - she depicted a tragic upbringing full of tears, trauma, abuse, alcoholism.....but above all, she put her bravery into words....
This was such a heartfelt collection, and poetry is such a unique way to write a memoir.
Ivy didn't hold anything back with this one; she lays her heart out on the table in all its vulnerability and lets you have a look. I felt for her throughout this book, but also came away with a feeling of hope and empowerment. I always say that any poetry book that makes me want to grab a journal and get some poems out is excellent in my book, and "Unveiled" certainly did that. This was a great read, and I'm so excited to see what Ivy does next.
I first saw Unveiled: A Poetry Memoir in January and I loved the cover, but I was poemed out, so I took a screenshot of it with the intention that I would come back to it eventually. I remembered that I had taken a few screenshots of poetry books, so I found them, saw Unveiled: A Poetry Memoir, read the synopsis and I had thought that I wasn’t actually going to pick it up now, but as I continued looking for something else to read, I kept seeing it pop up and just oh, that cover spoke to me and I couldn’t resist anymore. So I downloaded it and I just flew through this poetry memoir. It was heartbreaking and compelling and I really admired the strength and vulnerability that Ivy Cirillo shared with us. Unveiled: A Poetry Memoir touched me, I loved reading it and this will definitely not be the last time I read Ms. Cirillo!
i chose to give this book 5 stars for its incredible flow of words. the visionary. all the emotions thst come with it. the story is told like a memoir but you don't exactly get that whole vibe. its like reading a journal, but also a poetry book and also like reading someone's mind and spirit. it makes you feel understood in a way that is described as a whole: you're one person, but you are loved for every bit that you go through. i would reccomend this book to everyone who needs the reminder that these horrible times that life puts us in, won't defeat us. we are as Ivy puts it: "resilient".
This book was truly a poet's memoir, the best setting to sit with this would be a relaxed afternoon with coffee and instrumental music. It took me a while to sort through the collection, but once you're in the reading mode and invested in learning more about Cirillo's life through the lens of poetry. To see Cirillo now strive to share her story, one that will resonate or inspire others, is a gift in and of itself. While it takes you through difficult relationships with others and self, each poem holds importance as internal dialogues that Cirillo experienced and grew from, hence the inspiration to see her now healing and working to share her story.
A beautiful story. Thankful that Ivy shared her story with the world and inspires others to push through even their darkest days. I’m not normally a fan of poetry, but I loved the simplicity of her writing and the themes woven throughout the book.
This poetry book is just.. Heart-breaking. Devastating. Impressive. Inspiring. Amazing.
Ivy's been through hell ever since childhood. And she got out as a wonderful young woman who's doing her best to love herself, her life. Who's sharing her deepest pains, struggles, and fears with the world, so that her words could help us, too. So that we can see we're not alone, and that it's possible to heal.
My life hasn't been as difficult as Ivy's, but I found myself in so many poems. It was as if I wrote them, as if my soul spoke to me, to help me set those suppressed emotions and thoughts and fears and whatnot - free. To understand, realize, and acknowledge. To let go, forgive.
Reading the book wasn't easy. It's full of sad, moving stories. But that's what is so great about it - it opens our eyes to what we might have been avoiding all along. And you don't even have to have experienced what Ivy has to relate! There's so much in these poems that can help anyone who's ever somehow struggled - in their family or any other relationships - including with self-love and acceptance.
The further you read, the more you can see the mental shift and progress Ivy's made - the structure of the book is so well done that you can transition from traumatic scenes to healing together with Ivy's thoughts. She ends the collection with a beautiful set of poems that are so empowering, so motivating, so encouraging, positive and optimistic. YES, despite everything, Ivy's found a way to see the bright side, and she's helping her readers achieve the same.
There's so much more that I'd say here, but hope this is enough for anyone still undecided whether to buy the book or not - get it asap. It will help you. It's written in a simple, everyday language, which makes it even easier to absorb.
Thank you, Ivy. I am sorry you had such painful experiences, and wish you the best of luck in the future. Stay strong!
