She wants his heart for her god. His only hope is the vampire who broke it.

Vince Pagano may live out loud and proud, but he has a secret: Vampires are real. In fact, he used to date one before said vampire, well, ghosted him. Flash forward five years. Vince lands in trouble of a supernatural nature, and there’s only one man he can turn to.

Charlie Travert is a vampire who's quiet, restrained, and possessive. It’s been five years since a charismatic young human crushed his heart with a lie, and Charlie walked away to save the broken pieces. I was lucky enough to met Jax at an author signing in Sydney and I had not read any of her books (honestly I hadn't heard of her books until I went to the event). She was absolutely lovely and this story intrigued me so I purchased the book - without looking at the review previously which is very unlike me.

I was not disappointed. I always like to see new takes on the vampire myth and while this story stuck to some of the tried and true options (sunlight, religious items etc) there were some new elements. The story really focuses on Vince and Charlie's relationship with an overarching story behind this and it works well. Vince and Charlie as so sweet and I am glad that they got their happy ending.

I would recommend this book for your reading pleasure

This story was kind of hard for me to get into. It took me almost a week to finish it, when books like this I read them in hours. There’s just so much confusing information on the prologue, and first few chapters; Information about characters the readers (me) haven’t even met yet, and have no clear description of. It was extremely boring, and I get this is fantasy and all, but some of the information didn’t even make sense, or probably, I don’t know, wasn’t explained right enough?. I continued reading until the end because I don’t like leaving things have way, much less half read books. I gave this 3 stars because I liked the ending, and that’s about it. So, I don’t think I’ll continue reading this series.

I liked this book.

I would have liked to see Charlie turn Vince or some other event where Vince wouldn’t get hurt. With a war coming he will need it. I really liked the different take on vampires with souls. I liked all the characters and the conflict of Charlie living in a different time when it was not ok to be gay. I hope the author continues the story

A good read

Vampires, magic, an insane Aztec priestess and a human stripper/blacksmith, quite a combination. This story was suspenseful and enjoyable. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Captivating

I loved this unique take on vampire lore. I normally strongly dislike moral/immortal pairings that remain that way, and white I still how that immortality might be in Vince's future, I like the idea that Charlie had chosen Vince's death as his own bell - and that Charlie sees that as a gift.

Great storytelling!

Well deserving of every star. I was completely drawn into the story and there wasn't a dull moment to be found. Great action as well as a romance.
