When Ashley Miller sees a Craigslist ad for an all-expense paid vacation to Scotland with a handsome Highland “escort”, she’s all over it. Worn out from working two jobs to pay off the debts her scam artist ex-husband left her with, she just needs a friggin’ break already. Rolling, misty mountains of the Scottish Highlands, here she comes!

But one minute she’s sipping a latte and the next she’s zapped to the 2nd century and promptly informed she’s managed to wed her handsome Highlander without even an “I do.” Oh, hell no.

After a devastating tragedy, Connall’s tribe is left with few marriageable women. When his Druid priest suggests a place filled with bonnie lasses, he of course agrees to go fetch one for himself. But nothing prepared Connall for his sassy new wife, nor his tribe for a woman determined to see equal rights for all women.

Now the men are threatening revolt if he can’t rein his young wife in, but it might be too late. The women are demanding the men get “woke”—which of course makes no sense because they already woke that morn—and give women “the vote,” whatever the bloody hell that is. Despite all that, Connall can’t stop wanting to convince his wife to get naked, and he’s starting to wonder if he’s been bewitched.

Only the more he gets to know her, the more he starts to think she’s just what they needed. If only he survives her next demand...

The writing was not for me. Everything was too easy for our two characters who time traveled into the future and then to the past. I just didn't care for the two characters and their love seemed weird. There's also an ongoing battle happening between the romans and the Scottish ppl so if you don't like war stories... Lol don't pick this up

Some Like It Plaid was a highly entertaining time-travel romance. The majority of the story was spent in the past, and I was impressed with the author's story-telling when it came to the historical time period that the hero hailed from—156 AD. Thankfully, this story was lighter with some added humor because the time period had the potential to be dark and scary with its warrior clans, Roman soldiers, druids, and slave raids. Let's not even touch that there wasn't plumbing or hair conditioner.

The few chapters in the present-day moved a little slower for me, but once they were ensconced in the past, the story kept a steady and compelling pace. I loved the romantic tension between Connall and Ashley. That alone kept the pages turning, but the conflict and hardships indicative of the times were also a significant draw. The way Ashley felt out of place and infuriated by male dominance rang very accurately. Although I must say, I sometimes agreed with Connall and thought she was a bit disrespectful. Connall also had his faults, but I accepted them more quickly due to the period's attitudes. Overall, I enjoyed the swoon-worthy romance and look forward to more.

I had hoped this would be a good start to my long holiday weekend reading. A cute cover, a genre I like if done well (time travel), and an interesting time period. The first 30% was okay, albeit with a slow start, but it went downhill from there. The romance was lackluster, with almost no chemistry between H/h. I didn't like the way the heroine was made to feel she would have to be the one to make all concessions in their relationship to make it work. A disappointing read.

My review :

What a woman is to do when instead of job offer in Scotland, she finds herself unstuck in time, estranged from everything she has always known...

Wow, since I have read Must Love Breeches, I was eagerly waiting for this new time travel romance. And the wait was worth it.
It is a so different story than the few books I have read by Mrs Angela Quarles, first the choice of a very remote place and time, then her soft feminism plea.
Ashley is feeling like she is a disappointment , her family has always made her sense as if everything she does is not right or doomed to failure. And alas, even her marriage went to ash, her trust betrayed by her ex-husband.
Now she must hide to avoid being caught in the cross-fire of those looking for her ex’s debts.
So what’s better than this weird job offer so far away she might escape her burden and be able to hold her head high again.
Connall is doing what he has to help ensure a future for his clan. He just not expected the magic of his Druid to send him far in time to find the right woman for him.
Yet, he is back home with a 21st century woman, not very pleased with the outcome of her answering to a Craiglist add.
I must confess Ashley is one hell of a woman, I have landed in a so backward place, I would have been running screaming my arms up whatever the yummy piece of highland hunk next to me.
Outside the magic side of the story, theirs is the universal one of acceptance and consideration of each one value.
Connall is a fair and kind fellow, he wants to do what is right for his tribe, finding a wife if he has too but also let her go if she feels she does not belong among his kin. He only follows the way of his father and those before him. Why even if he respects Ashley, he is not yet ready to share control with someone he feels it is his mission to protect, not the other way.
Ashley swore to never again feel helpless in a relationship, she wants a common ground where things can be discussed together. She accepts she is no match to the men’s strength but she also knows women have other values than brawn.
So when Connall appears to listen to what she has to say, she begins to wonder if going back to her time is the right decision. But not everything is what it seems, and their journey to trusting one another will not be a straight and easy one.

Outside the romance, the author did an awesome job at recreating the period and its way of life. The landscapes and the different housings become real along the words as the various peoples interactions.

5 stars for this entertaining tale about the ubiquitous quest of the right person destined to be our other half.

I was granted an advance copy through Netgalley by the publisher. Prior to it, I preordered my own.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

From the cover to the intriguing synopsis, Some Like it Plaid had me hooked from the very beginning and it didn’t disappoint at all. It’s my first time reading anything from Angela Quarles and it won’t be the last. She manages to transport the reader to a whole new time and it worked.

In the story we get to meet Ashley Miller, she has recently divorced and has struggled ever since to pay the debt that her ex-husband left her with. Her life has become chaotic and she doesn’t know what to do as she struggles to pay all that money. But that soon changes the minute she sees a Craigslist ad for an all-expense paid trip to Scotland in exchange for doing house work. Ashley quickly jumps at the change of getting out of her stressful life in San Francisco for the beautiful land of Scotland. It’s especially hard to say no to the mystery guy interviewing her for the job. They click right away and the way he expresses himself intrigues her. With that said, she sets off to Scotland, only to find herself back in time to 156 AD. She wanted a new start and she is about to get one full of potential dangers and one incredible romance that will have her questioning going back home.

After a tragedy struck his tribe, Connall as the chief’s oldest son, he is given the task of finding a wife in order to help grow the tribe. With very few marriageable women left in his tribe, his druid priest suggests for him to travel in time. With no idea where he is heading, Connell accepts and he is quickly transported to modern day San Francisco. He is amazed at how people live in the 21st century and is quickly told that in order to find what he is looking for is to post an ad on Craigslist and that’s exactly what he does. But it’s when he conducting interviews that he sets his eyes on Ashley and everything changes after that. He can see that she is outspoken and smart. This attracts him to her that most and thinks of it as an asset for the tribe. Little did he know that his future outspoken wife would end up changing his tribe forever.

I very much enjoyed reading this book! It was engaging and funny. The characters compliment each other very well and they are truly meant for one another. Connall is the overprotective alpha male that will do anything to protect Ashley yet she finds it a little hard to understand his ways when it comes to her and the tribe. His sole purpose is to get a wife and she is perfect for the job. On the other hand, Ashley wants to get away from her old life and will do anything in order to start a new life. As the characters struggle to navigate their new life together, there are things that they need to work on if they want a future. As I mentioned at the beginning, Angela Quarles did a great job describing the setting and the overall story. The ending will have you swooning for the characters and I would highly recommend checking it out. I cannot wait to read more from the author in the future. :)

Connall’s tribe is short on women after a raid stole them away. So with a little magic and help from a local Druid, he gets sent to modern San Francisco to find a woman.

Ashley is desperate. Her ex husband built a ton of debt in her name and turned her family against her. She’s living in a podshare and trying to work off his debts. So when she sees an ad for a job in Scotland, she goes to the interview and is surprised she gets it.

Unfortunately she didn’t realize it wasn’t a job of cooking and cleaning, but a marriage to a man from 159 AD Dunadd.

I was hoping more time would be spent in the modern age, but it was mostly historical.

I liked how the magic made her understand their language, and it gave her the equivalent of what she packed. Since she had her phone and laptop, the equivalent was being a diviner. She could tell you what the weather was doing and major events from history - I thought that was clever.

I didn’t like how much she had to sacrifice for Connall. She makes the biggest sacrifice and the majority of the compromises. I wasn’t a fan of their romance. Just didn’t really feel any sparks.

It has been a long time since I read a Romantic Time-Slip novel, where the female characters travels back to the Scottish Highlands. This one had a bit of a twist, with the handsome, swoon-worthy hero travelling forward in time looking for a wife. When he finds her, they travel back in time to his home. The only problem is that she doesn't realize she has agreed to become his wife.

I really enjoyed this story. It was just different enough to really pique my interest. First of all, the clan has suffered severe losses. Their homeland has been raided and most of the young and marriageable women and children have been taken as slaves. When Ashley shows up with Connall she has some powers. She is able to divine the future and assists the tribe in a couple of successful raids. She also uses her knowledge and intellect to assist in other ways to help the tribe become more self-sufficient. Of course along the way, she falls in love with Connall. I enjoyed the many characters, especially the women who befriend Ashley. I also learned a bit of Scottish history along the way. The only downside for me were the couple of rather descriptive sex scenes during the story. Overall, this is a delightful read, that I recommend to lovers of historical or Highland romance. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Rachael Beresford. This is another narrator that I have listened to before. She does a wonderful job with voices, expression and pacing. Her narration gave me an enjoyable listening experience. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

I started this book quite a while ago and put it down because I was struggling to find a connection between the leads. I actually loved the time travel aspect, and I'm usually down for a good historical, but what keeps me turning that page is the chemistry between the leads. I struggled with feeling it, and in turn, it made their relationship feel off kilter. So hence, my middle of the road rating - I didn't fall in love, but I didn't hate it either.

I’ll be upfront and say this book was pretty far out of my wheelhouse as it included time travel and was a historical romance with a twist and while I found it entertaining at times, for the most part I had a hard time with the concept as I kept thinking they are changing history (sorry but my love of Star Trek made me think how bad this could be). That all being said, Some Like It Plaid was amusing and clever, but at times a bit heavy and sad and while billed a romance, that part of the story felt a bit flat.

With most of the women of childbearing years being captured and taken into slavery, Connall must find a wife and soon to keep his clan alive and thriving. With the help of a druid he is sent to find his perfect match and winds up in modern day San Francisco where with help he places an ad on Craig’s List and meets Ashley, a broke divorcee just trying to pay off her ex’s debts and keep her head above water. An all expenses paid trip to Scotland sounds like heaven (even with cooking and washing clothes) until they arrive and she realizes it is second century Scotland, not modern day Scotland.

Soon Ashley realizes that her life will be much different and that any rights she had are now gone. She and Connall find a middle ground in dealing with one another and while there is attraction between them she keeps him at arm’s length and he doesn’t press the issue knowing she wishes to return to her home with the time is right.

Ashleybecomes known as a Diviner which in reality she is not but because she left her world with her laptop she begins to figure out she can “ask” questions and basically has Google at her beck and call and can get some information that helps her and those around her. She clearly enjoys the people in the clan and she does offer insight on ways to help them given her vast knowledge of things that haven’t been invented yet, but because she’s a woman she is often ignored by Connall and the other men. She soon forms her own “council” where they meet and plan ways they can help if they are attacked like before she arrived.

I appreciated this story for the unique way it was written and the way both Ashley and Connall found a way to eventually compromise, but I just found it hard to get past the unbelievable plot line of her being able to access Google and that she nor Connall worried that their actions could change the course of history. Yes, I realize it is fiction but for me fiction needs to be believable to work and these points just didn’t work with me (probably the reason I don’t read historical, fantasy, or sci-fi romances).

Some Like It Plaid was a unique story, but there wasn’t enough romance and so much of the plot was not plausible that it was hard for me to truly love it.

I liked the premise to this book (I just love time travel romance) and I was sure I'd enjoy it greatly (like I did other time travel books by Ms. Quarles) but sadly there was this tiny, tiny thing that got in the way of me loving the book. And that thing was the hero's age. He was 21. I just couldn't get pass that. I don't like it when the main characters are barely out of their teens. It's my personal preference and if I knew beforehand the hero was so young I wouldn't have requested this book. So it's totally my fault for not enjoying the story and if you don't mind young h/H then it's more than likely you're gonna love this book because the story was great and the characters easy to root for. The time period the book was set in was also very interesting, 156 AD.
Despite my hang up on the hero's age this wasn't a bad book and Angela Quarles still has a big fan in me.

Normally I'm a little iffy on historical and time travel books. Angela Quarles changed my mind. I was quickly swept into another world with Ashley. I fell in love with Connall and his tribe. Ms. Quarles wove a beautiful story, her words painted beautiful pictures in my mind and I honestly did not want the book to end.

Ashley has had a shit life. Let's be honest, she has, but a chance meeting from a Craigslist ad answers all her problems. She thinks. She's then thrust into a world she knows nothing about, with a man that is becoming harder and harder to resist. Connall was so swoon worthy. He may not have understood our world, but he understood a little about Ashley. He gives her time, doesn't go all caveman on her. He is actually pretty sweet under his gruff exterior. It wasn't hard to see these two were made for each other.

Kilts, druids, and Scots oh my! Some Like It Plaid is a magically romantic tale of a woman finding herself while learning to love again. Definitely a top read this year!

Some Like it Plaid by Angela Quarles is a fun time travel romance novel. Ashley is such a realistic woman from our modern times. She just went through a divorce, she doesn't seem to get along with her family now that her ex turned them against her...and she is paying her ex husband's bad debts. Tired of working two jobs and living in a pod in urban America,. Ashley applies to a job offer on Craig's List.

What she thinks is a job offer is actually a marriage offer to a Scottish man from the past who needs a wife to have his kids. Sooner than she can process his cute accent and manly swagger, Ashley is in the past with Connell. The chemistry between them sizzles and they have many obstacles to overcome. The communication issues between them are hilarious as this is as much a romantic comedy as a time travel novel.

The most intriguing character in the novel is the Druid, Mungan and The Emperor Norton. I find myself wanting to read novels about them as they are mysterious and fascinating!

Overall an enjoyable read!! Will definitely read more novels by Angela Quarles .

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of Some Like it Plaid for me to read and enjoy. As always, my opinions are my own.

Some Like it Plaid by Angela Quarles is a unique love story between Ashley Miller, a present day women and a second century Scotland Highlander, Connall, a tribe leader. Angela answers a Craig's list ad, thinking she is going to Scotland, for a job. She just didn't realize she was going back in time. I found this book to be interesting and fun, and enjoyed the history as well. If your looking for something different in your romance reading, I highly recommend this one.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

A bit different take on the time travel romance, when Connall is sent to the future to find a bride when the women of his clan are kidnapped. It was great that the clan wealth in the past translated forward (I am guessing since a druid sent him and could add on the little things!) so that Connall was not penniless.

When Ashley went back to the past, she was able to transfer her use of Google into visions or sight so that she was able to navigate this strange world that she landed in.

This book feels like there were some ends not resolved so I am wondering if there are going to be more and another clan member will go looking for a wife for the next book and we will get more missing pieces added in each book. It seemed like it was kind of hinted that way when Ashley said she would help the next person so they didn't make the same mistakes as Connall! Glad that they were able to resolve their misunderstandings and get their HEA!

It is always fun to read someone else traveling back in time and choosing to stay but not sure I could handle all the changes and miss so many of the conveniences of this time!

Ashley Miller is tired of dodging people her ex-husband owes money to. She would love to just get away from it all. When she finds an ad on Craigslist for a job in Scotland, she jumps at the opportunity. Ashley has no idea what to expect when she shows up for the interview, but the sexy Highlander doing the hiring is an added bonus. Apparently, she makes a good impression, because next thing she knows she's packing for Scotland. Imagine her shock, when Ashley discovers she's traveled back in time to a much more primitive Scotland, oh, and the job she was applying for was the position of said sexy Highlander's wife.

Connall's people, mostly women and children, were recently taken in a raid. Women are scarce, and he's in need of a bride. His Druid priest convinces him to travel into the future to select a potential candidate. Connall immediately knows Ashley's the one. He brings her home, knowing that he maybe didn't explain things the best, but with hopes she'll warm to him and his people. It'll all work out for the best, right?

Author Angela Quarles is newer-to-me, but I have to admit I am very much enjoying her writing style. Her characters are quirky and fun. It's so nice to have humor mixed in with all the seriousness. I loved the concept of the story, SOME LIKE IT PLAID,... traveling through time for a bride. Ashley and Connall are in for some pretty big surprises, both in her time and going back to his. I just could not put this book down.

What would you do if you are the baby of the family (treated as such), divorced from a swindler , who you are now working 2 jobs to pay off his bookies!! Then comes this offer from a wild, hunky, swoonable man from Scotland and all he wants is you to wash , clean, and expand his herd!!! Well hell ya lets go!!!
Little did Ashley know that was not all she was going to do or when she was going to do it in. Hold hands with this with man and she ends up centuries back in time!! She makes the most out of it, but does not make it easy on him to increase his herd!!! She becomes the person that she always wanted to be, needed and useful. If she just could make him see what she was his equal and get rid of the old fashion thinking!! She has the choice to stay or leave , will she ?

Absolutely loved Some Like it Paid by Angela Quarles! I am a big fan of time travel books and really enjoy reading about people out of their element. I really enjoyed the Craigslist ad and all of the misinterpretations and innuendos. I always find it amusing when modern phrases are confusing and interpreted literally. I also love the comic element and use of Sci-Fi/pop culture references and phrases. I thought it was great how the magic of the druid was explained and his status in his time was reflected in her time. I hope this isn’t the last we see from this tribe and their search for wives. An exciting whirlwind of a read. Ashley is on the run from shady creditirs. It seemed her jerk if an ex husband had used all their money in bad transactions. Instead of going after him, it seems she's the fall "guy". Even her family didn't believe her when she said how controlling he we, and how he illegally used all their funds. If her own family didn't believe her, why would anyone else? It was these things that led her to answering the odd Craigslist ad. The last thing she expected was this gorgeous Scottish man in front of her. Even less did she expect him to whisk her off to ancient Scotland. How will she survive, and can she trust Connal? I loved every moment of this read. Filled with adventure, excitement, humor, and many differences of opinion! At the center was one dynamic woman determined for her voice to be heard, and a desire to make a difference. I can't wait to read more books to come!

Quarles dares to be different and I'm lovin' it. From modern firecracker to 2nd century outcast. Move over Outlander, make room for Some Like It Plaid. Ashley and Connell may be from two different worlds, but they do share a common goal. Both are trying to work their way through heartache. With a connection that seems to transcend time, adventure that kept me mystified and heart that touches the soul, Quarles turns an eccentric romance into an unforgettable love match.

I’ve read some time travel romances before, but never one that drew me in like Some Like it Plaid! I loved Connall! He seemed like he would be a big, tough warrior (& he is) but I loved that he is a big marshmallow inside. Ashley was so freaking awesome! I loved that she was so excited to help Connall’s people and especially help the women have their voices heard in the tribe!
The whole book just moved so smoothly! There was the perfect touch of drama but the focus was Ashley & Connall learning to understand and love each other!!

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book!

The characters and story drew me in from the beginning. The author did a really nice job creating interesting parameters for the time travel and resources that both Connall and Ashley do between present day San Francisco and Scotland in the past. The descriptions of Scotland and Connall's village made me feel like I was there experiencing it with Ashley as she tries to acclimate.

The story moves nicely between the growing attraction between Connall and Ashley, the decision on whether she will stay in Scotland or try to return home, and outside forces making them work together. The plot definitely kept my interest and I read it in less than a day.

I definitely recommend this book for a fun weekend read!

Yea...Connall doesn't really ask he just demands, "a shadow blended with hers, and Connall reached out a hand. “You will accompany us.” I found this to be an entertaining read, Connall was just set in his ways and his ways weren't to his woman's liking so she decided to do something about driving her man bonkers.

This is an okay, time-travel romance. It's light reading. But I must confess that I've read better. Nothing really stands out about the plot or the characters.

It's like grabbing that frozen lasagna dinner you had in your freezer bec you're too lazy to cook. It's okaaaay but you know it's not the same as the lasagna your mom used to make.

Granted, historical romance is not typically my thing, but I've read and enjoyed other things by Angela Quarles. (In fact, her Stolen Moments series is one of my all-time favorites!) So I thought I would give this book a try. It was... okay. Not great, not horrible, just okay.

The first ten percent or so is the backstory, concerned with explaining to the reader how and why Connall ends up traveling from ancient Scotland to present-day New York City. It's a bit confusing at first, but things fairly quickly fall into place so that we become aware of what is going on. Both Connall and Ashley adapt remarkably well to their new surroundings, although he does a bit better than her at accepting things as they are.

Lack of communication between the two creates a myriad of problems along the way, as they get to know one another and deal with the various issues of life in a archaic environment. The biggest issue is that both have feelings for each other that they are unwilling to express, and expectations that they don't bother to explore. Ashley ended up in a much better situation - regardless of how primitive it was - than she was experiencing in her own time. And (although I totally agreed with her), I found it absolutely absurd that Ashley would expect Connall to change everything about his entire society to suit her 21st Century viewpoints. But Connall expecting her to fit right in to his lifestyle after having seen what she was used to was nearly as bizarre. I did like the eventual compromise that they came to, but it was certainly hard won.

The one real love scene between them was pretty spicy, and some of the other love scenes were equally intense. The interactions between these two were a bit flat and sometimes seemed kind of forced. Still, you couldn't help rooting for them to realize and delcare their love for one another. When they finally did, the writing was a bit sappy, but the sentiment was delightful.

The peripheral characters were interesting and a lot of the side action was intriguing. There was mention of several characters who story archs were never fleshed out much, leading me to believe that this may be the first of a series with more episodes to come. I'd be interested in checking those out to see where things go from here.

I thought this was a good romantic story set in the ancient Scotland highlands. I just wasn’t able to connect to the characters as much as I normally do.

Brief Synopsis
Ashley answers a Craigslist ad for a free trip to Scotland in exchange for housework and finds herself married to Connall in the 2nd century Scottish highlands.

Pacing & Points of View
The pacing of this story was average with the main points of view being Connall and Ashley.

Characters
I really liked Ashley's character and I would've liked to see more of her backstory. I wouldn't call this an enemies to lovers romance, but there was definitely some tension from Ashley due to be yanked back through time and suddenly married. There were plenty of sex scenes to keep you reading and those had the most chemistry. There was really no build up of chemistry and day to day occurrences that really keep you on the edge of your seat in a romance. This is most likely one of the reasons why it felt a little instalove. Another was the lack of communication between Ashley and Connall. I don't think they really discussed anything other than the issues going on in the village instead of personal issues or thoughts with each other. Both of these things lead me to feel disconnected to the characters and made the story a little flat for me.

Overall
Overall, I would say I liked this story. I just wish I could have connected to the characters more through the main characters communicating feelings more or
