This book contains heartfelt and familiar short stories.

Irani Cafe is a Telugu book that brings together 13 short stories. I genuinely appreciate the attempt. There is something refreshing about seeing this kind of experimentation in Telugu literature, and I found the overall effort impressive.
That said, the book didn’t quite work for me as a reading experience. I’m not saying the book is bad or that the stories are poorly written. It’s more about the way the stories are narrated. I found it difficult to stay immersed for a long stretch, and after a point, I would find myself wanting the particular story to end so I could move on to the next one, or simply finish the book.
The use of the same name in multiple stories also confused me at first. It made me wonder whether the stories were completely independent or whether they were somehow connected, almost like different chapters of one larger novel. For me, that didn’t quite land.
So, while Irani Cafe wasn’t a personal hit, I’m still glad I picked it up. More than anything, I’m happy to see writers experimenting with form, narration and storytelling in Telugu literature. I hope we see more such attempts, even if not every experiment works for every reader.
