After surviving countless perils and dangers, including an examination by the Blood Council, Fred is preparing to take on his most important adventure to marrying Krystal. That is, if he can get everything handled in time. Visiting Boarback, hiring new staff, clearing out his schedule for a honeymoon; there’s no shortage of tasks to check off before the big day arrives. But not everyone views the occasion in such a happy light. With new dangers looming, old debts raised, and grudges rekindled, it’ll take everything Fred has to finally make it down the aisle.
The Fred stories are told from a first person point of view as Fred writes down the story of his life. Nothing is ever easy when Fred and the gang are involved and even something, like Fred and Krystal’s wedding, is no different.
Somewhere Old The story start with Fred and Krystal going to Boarback to find what they need for their wedding. With the number of paranormal guests, what better than a city dedicated entirely to paranormals. Fred also has a meeting with the Blood Council as they do some testing on Fred’s peculiar reactions to certain things (which you know from previous books, if you’ve read them).
Someone New Fred has promised Krystal that he will walk away from his business for a full two weeks while on their honeymoon. So, he needs to find and hire another employee for his accounting business. Lillian is doing a great job as an accountant. Fred is hoping to find someone that can be trained like she was. Many more people sign up to interview than were expected.
A Partner Borrowed So Fred is looking at a mage that Amy wants to help out by investing in their business. The team is quickly separated and put into a maze. If I say much more, it will spoil this part of the story.
A Place of Blue June, the half fae maid of honor is called home to deal with an issue that she is not allowed to decline. Fred and Krystal go to assist so that June will finish faster and be back in time for the wedding.
Trust, Friendship, and Love That’s True Everyone travels back to Boarback for the wedding. But again, things get dicey for Fred and Krystal.
I really love this Fred, The Vampire Accountant series. Fred and the gang are a lot of fun. While I think you could probably pick up what is going on if you started with this story, I would highly recommend starting with book one, The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant. I love how Fred brings together a wide array of paranormals who are each completely different, but complement the entire team to make for a great group of friends. I’m not sure if this will be the last book in the series, but I hope not. I always enjoy my time with the gang. I also enjoy how each book is told in shorter stories that come together into a great full novel.
Narration: Kirby Heyborne has done a great job with the narration of this series. I’ve only ever listened to him in this series, but I would gladly listen to more. He does a wonderful job with the ever growing list of characters and the voices always fit the personality of the character. He has no issues with men or women’s voices, even children or dragons who look like children. I highly recommend this series on audio.
**I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Review: I love Fred. I love how refreshing he is as an urban fantasy protagonist. He's just so nice and good. He's accepting and nonjudgmental and gives people a chance. He's supportive of his friends. He prefers to avoid conflict and risk, but he'll jump into it without hesitation when it's for Krystal or his friends. He's a little awkward and anxious. He's certainly not suave. He's occasionally badass, in his own way, and sometimes that way is being really good at accounting. So Fred is great, and I always get excited when there's a new audiobook in the series.
This one added a couple great new characters to Fred's crew, each of whom is also a new type of supernatural. But this one also had all the old characters because... it's Fred and Krystal's wedding! I also liked that most of the episodes in this one (these books are episodic, always consisting of five separate but connected stories) involved Fred and friends working together, since those are my favorites.
The audiobook, narrated by Kirby Heyborne, was also great, yet again. He's great at doing different voices for different characters and bringing the story to life in a natural but engaging way.
Overall, this was a cute one in the series, though all the Fred books are fun and make me smile.
Recommended For: Fans of Books 1-5 in the Fred, The Vampire Accountant series by Drew Hayes. Anyone who likes character growth, found family, characters who are quirky and good, lots of supernaturals, urban/paranormal fantasy that's slower paced and not too stressful, and a vampire who isn't your typical kind of vampire.
Wit hevery new installment in the series I am amazed that it is still as captivating and good as the first one. The events in this one really grabbed me and made me love the characters even more. Highly recommend this series. As usual I listened to it and the performance is consistently good.
Another solid entry into this fabulous urban fantasy series! It’s wonderful to see how much the world expands and evolves, and we’re starting to see a lot of consequences now from Fred’s decisions in earlier books. There are new characters (and a new type of parahuman) which was awesome to see :D Plus, we get a fabulous appearance from Gideon!
Fred, the Vampire Accountant book 6. Spoilers ahead for the earlier ones.
This is the wedding one. However, it is, as usual, incidents in the life of Fred, the Vampire Accountant. He mentions that there are things he must get out of the way before the wedding, but they are not all intrinsically bound to it. Like the first person to ask Amy for financing and the attempt to hire another paranormal to train as an accountant -- both of which get interesting. Looking for venues also features. The Blood Council is curious about Fred's unusual traits. Fireworks, mints changing type, a fae causing some trouble, and Quinn causing trouble. And more.
Book 6 of this running comedic fantasy series, like the title suggests, finds Fred preparing for his wedding. I would not read this series out of order, so if you are reading this you are already familiar with the set-up, several novellas wended together by a common theme. I am definitely a fan of the series, but I think the stories are each well done and expertly crafted together. This collection in particular has good titles. The group adopts new companions, faces new and old foes, and clueless falls into and out of danger. I do recommend the series.
4.5 stars - the beginning of the book was much more low key than some of the other books, but the last 30% of this book was intense and raised the ranking by a half star.
Getting married is generally a stressful and busy time no matter what. But when you're Fred, The Vampire Accountant, you can count on bigger issues on your wedding day than just the wrong flowers being delivered...
There were sections that were very engaging, but too many that were sub par. The final conflict seemed forced and truly unnecessary. It was just there to have a conflict. I think this series may be going the way of Super Powereds in the final book.

As usual the scary thrills and chills mount up, from attacks by an old enemy to various leaders of the parahuman community who want to stop Fred’s and Krystal’s wedding. What can the couple do? Stay tuned…..
Not a bad story but seemed to just keep following the pattern of short stories loosely held together with a throughline. I'll keep reading the series but I would like to see the world outside the clan explored more.
Kirby Heyborne (the narrator) just embodies Fred perfectly. He IS Fred. Another enjoyable read. Fred the Vampire Accountant is a constant cozy parahuman read.
I love your work! I read your Super powereds series too and I enjoyed that as well. I don’t know whether continuing either series would be wise, but I think you would have to sandbag your writing for me to actually be disappointed. I ... just love the characters you created. I can only hope to pull off something so good, but I’ll settle for even a fraction. Thank you for writing this series and please keep up the good work.
Six books for a first act, you might think me mad. However, we are talking about beings that can count their lifespan in millennia. At this point, if my math is correct, we're only six years into this story, so I feel justified in that assessment. Drew has an amazing gift for character creation, and this series contains some of my favorites. My only slight disappointment is a major spoiler, and has more to with character change than anything I would fault the book with. I always recommend this series to anyone looking for a fresh take on modern Vampiric fiction. Especially if you like funny. Fred may not be your normal brooding Anne Rice Vamp, but he is hands down more fun to read about than any that may or may not sparkle, or that bed hop more often than a red eyed rabbit. Seriously, it's a very fun read. If you haven't read The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant, start there. You'll get here faster than you thought possible.
Totally forgot to mark this as read, but I read this a couple weeks ago and loved it! This books was so enjoyable and had the perfect balance of action and humor. Every character whether they're main, supporting, minor, or one-off, is so unique and so fun to read about. (Speaking of characters, I was so happy to see Deborah again, even if she was in a minor role.)
My favorite story was definitely A Partner Borrowed because I'm partial to any action scenes where puzzles, games, riddles, or tricks need to be solved, but I loved the whole book tbh.
The weeks leading up to Fred's wedding are full of adventure.
What I enjoyed: * I really like the characters and the new addition of Al is great * Finding out more about Sheriff Leeroy * Politics in the supernatural world are brutal * Fred breaking the rules
I think one of the main reasons I enjoy Fred is because he's such a sweet guy. I really liked the first story in this one and I also loved the situation with Asha.
However, I think I'm getting tired of the series a little, in that it's very long and a lot of similar things are happening over and over again and the repetitive vibes are just tiring.
I might take a small break from the series before listening to the rest.
Fred and Krystal prepare for their wedding, play nice with the Blood Council, bargain with the fae, and undermine The Agency. Remember that little guy who always ran away from trouble? When did Fred become this confrontational? Another good installment, although the wedding-planning parts and fae negotiations dragged a bit.
Particularly fun to read the second book/chapter "Something New" a couple of days after doing an escape room. I just love Fred and Krystal and co, and look forward to whatever happens next.
It's fun to catch up on how these characters continue to develop. While some of our old favorites were less prevalent in this story, the new people that we "meet" are always interesting as well!
