A cute little insta-love read. And I do mean super Insta-love. Like Bite, mate, make love and I love you all in one day. But hey it's PNR so I'm cool with insta-love especially with shifter mates. Max was hot! He was so Alpha which works cause he was the Alpha of the pumas. Emma was very funny. She had a cute snarky attitude. And the kitty jokes she made was too funny. I liked Emma's friend Becky and I can't wait to read her and Simon's book. This book was a cute funny quick read! Here are a few quotes I really liked.

“It’s not like this is a date, Max.” She flipped her ponytail back over her shoulder with a defiant flick of her wrist. “It’s more like a kidnapping. With food.”-Emma

“Why are you being such a pain in the ass?” Max turned to her, frustration written all over his face. “I offer to help you, buy you dinner, kiss you senseless and bring you to orgasm, oh, no, don’t bother lying about that either,” he yelled as she opened her mouth, “and all you do is give me grief!” “You felt me up without permission, kidnapped me, practically attacked me on the street, bit me , then act like a crazy man, drive like a bat out of hell out of town, and you want to know why I’m giving you grief? You’re lucky I haven’t broken out the mace, pal!”-Max and Emma

“Max?” “Hmm?” His hand started to stroke up and down her back, gently nudging her towards the SUV. “Will I have to use a litter box?” “Emma!”-Emma and Max

“No! Bad kitty!”-Emma

Ohkaaaaayyyyy...........BIG ASS SPOILER ALERT

This book has one of the stupidest heroines i have ever read about. I mean her IQ must be lower then a cold winter's night in good ole Arctic.

A guy she had the hots for as a teen rolls into town looking like QUOTE- a tribute to the god STEROID!!! I dunno what the author wanted to achieve with that but my mind produced an image of a fake tanned wrestler in spandex with socks stuffed in the front, cause we all know the counterproductive effect of steroids on testies.

Ah well.... moving on...

So the Hulk Hogan were-puma-alpha (original, aint it?), hears her voice while hanging around his friend's work and automatically knows she is his mate (another shocker there), and heads right over to her work.
While there his mind works over the last he was in her life, him dating the blonde bubblegum airhead bimbo in high school, and she being a chubby nobody. While his mind is strolling memory lane his ears and eyes are focused on the present and the inevitable boner rears it's head. (no pun intended)

Later that very same day. He waits for her to finish work. Takes her out to dinner, makes out with her and bites her (to change her in to a puma)... only she doesn't know it.... So yah one would expect a pissed off who-do-you-think-you-are, how-dare-you, get-the-fuck-outa-my-face-you-fucked-up-mofo response....right????

WELL YOU'RE WRONG!!!!!

He: I bit you.
She: Okay.
He: I'm a were-puma.
She: Okay.
He: There's things around like were-pumas.
She: Okay.
He: See, now you are going to be a were-puma too.
She: Okay.
He: Now you're mine, my mate, you can't ever leave me.
She: Okay.
He: Now let's go home and i will fuck you.
She: I'm a virgin, and oh okay.

So he does the deed and she comes all over herself like 15 times.... and everything is sooooo amazing.

I don't know what happens next and honestly i don't give a shit....

Sometimes I really like a light hearted read. Throw in some humor, pretty face-paced storyline and some shapeshifting characters that have some hot chemistry together, and well I am in Heaven!

Emma has always felt like an outcast. She and her best friend Becky partner in a trinket story called "Wallflowers" and both women have always been accused of being somewhat eccentric in the town they live in.

Emma has never felt like a raving beauty. She is considered too short, too overweight (by today's standards) and somewhat bossy. Although, she has dated...no one holds her heart and desire like her childhood crush and local heart throb Max Cannon. He has just returned to town after several years of absence causing a stir of excitment with all of the females. Emma always admires him from afar, no man has ever measured up to him, his loyality, his kindness, his fairness toward others and his definate sex appeal.

Max Cannon is a shapeshifting puma. He has returned to take his rightful leadership as head of his pack. Successful and handsome, he often gets tired of the overwhelming attention that gets sent his way. When he overhears Emma's sultry commanding voice on a phone call with his best friend, he is immediately drawn to her. Although he remembers her as someone who was more of a "wallflower" in high school, he decides to check out the source of her sexy voice first hand.

When Max and Emma meet again, he knows she is his mate. The attraction they have for one another is immediate, and he quickly claims her to be his mate... but, there are others that do not want them to be together and will do anything to stop it.

The rapport between Emma and Max had me laughing out loud at times. She accepts the fact he is a shapeshifter and to be with him, she must be one too, VERY easily. That was kind of refreshing...maybe not realistic, but refreshing.

I really enjoyed this book! It was funny, sexy and had some great characters. A great read for someone who wants a lighthearted, not to serious read.

If you are offended by dirty word and explict sex, this book is not for you.

This is the first book in the Halle Pumas Series. The next book is Sweet Dreams. I am looking forward to reading it!

It’s been a long time since I have re-read this PR book, and I’m glad I decided to re-read it, time hasn’t altered my view of it. The book remains a fun, and rather entertaining, quick read.

Dr Max Cannon is back in Halle to take over as Alpha of the Puma Pride he belongs to, intent on escaping the determined and annoying woman trying to sink her claws into him – Livia the daughter of the alpha Max is taking over from, he is hoping his mate will be found soon and as luck will have it she’s not too far away. When he hears the delectable voice of Emma, both he and his Puma’s attention are ensnared and he is keen to meet the woman whose voice has him standing to attention.

I do think the title is a little misleading, Emma may have once been a wallflower, but from how she is depicted in the book within the present she most certainly is not.

Due to the speed at which things occur (super warp speed) you will need to firmly chuck reality out the door, if you’re able to do so, then you’ll enjoy the ride.

This was a cute puma shifter story. I loved Max but wished he had recognized Emma as his mate all of those years ago. He truly hated that he hadn't too. Emma wasn't bothered by it though. Livia was a total bitch and it was awesome to see her get what was coming to her. I can't wait to read Simon and Becky's story. And of course to see more of Max and Emma as the Alpha and his Curana.

"The Wallflower" is the story of Emma and Max.
Emma, our heroine, has loved the handsome doctor Max Cannon for years. But he never noticed her during school, and now that he has returned back to their town ten years later- she still expects the same- especially with his ex Livia hanging around.
However, as Max hears her voice and personally sees her- he is enchanted while also realizing she is his mate!
How they mate and overcome a bitchy ex causing problems is the story.
I kinda liked this one. The h called the were-puma hero funny names (Lion-O, Bad-kitty etc), and their one sex scene was average. There is also a second couple- Simon and Becky introduced, but we dont get enough about them to form an opinion (their book is next).
Short and kinda hot.

Okay, first of all, they weren't kidding about the explicit sex. I decided to give this book a go despite the fact that I tend to like my heat rating closer to warm than so-hot-I'm-blushing. After all, it's been on more shifter book lists than I can count. But it was also (no surprise) on the list of books for wallflower heroines. It doesn't really apply, in my opinion, as the heroine was formerly a wallflower but is no longer at the start of the book.
The Wallflower moves at a mad pace. It's not a long read. I was disappointed to find that the last 30% of the book was excerpts from other Samhain Publishing books. Actually, the first excerpt was from The Wallflower. Which is one of my biggest pet peeves ever. I wish publishers would take a little time to think that one through. I'm really curious to know how much extra work it would take to leave out an excerpt of a book at the back of the book itself. Or is it just laziness. Somehow, I think it's the latter.
Okay, right: The Wallflower moves at a mad pace. Events happen in a slam-bam thank you ma'am sort of way. And yes, I meant that double entendre. Max no sooner hears Emma's voice over the phone than he's meeting her in person than he's realizing she's his mate, turning her into a puma, taking her to bed and teaching her to be a wanton woman. There's hardly time for anyone to take a breath and, in all the mad rushing, important elements are left behind. Like plot and characterization. Max and Emma end the story where they began it. The only difference is that, by the last page, they're together.
Bell rushes Max and Emma into the bedroom pretty fast, but then it's revealed that Emma's a virgin. So, she's waited 25 years to have sex only to give it up without a second thought? That's...unusual. Why did Emma have to be a virgin in the first place? I don't mind virgin heroines, when they work for a story, but they mystify me when they don't. Especially novels with a great deal of erotic content. It's unlikely that a woman who has waited so long to go all the way will, after her first sexual encounter, suddenly be an expert in the bedroom.
The other thing that happens ultra-fast is the Emma's discovery of Max's werecat (Puma) nature. She accepts it with a minimum of disbelief. Also, we don't ever learn much about what it means to become a Puma, but all it seems to involve is eyes turning gold occasionally, the ability to shapeshift and an adherence to pack hierarchy. That's very much in evidence. Max also decides to make Emma a Puma without even telling her what he is. I didn't like that. At all.
My main feeling when I finished this book was that there wasn't enough substance to make it work. This is partly due to the length, but not entirely. Other authors have put a wealth of meaning into fewer words. I don't think I'll be buying the rest of the Halle Puma books, but I'd put free copies on TBR list. And, yes, that was a hint

**4 shifting Puma's stars**

I really enjoyed this short shifter story.   It had the fated mate aspect I love, and fun, witty banter.

I do prefer that the shifters are only with their fated mates, but this was different circumstances than we normally see in stories.   Max hadn't always been a shifter.

Max was a great hero.  He moved back to town to take over as Alpha of the Puma pack.  He was smart, funny and  fell head over heals for Emma as soon as he saw her.  He knew years before he felt something for her that he couldn't quite explain.  However,  he left for college and hadn't seen her in years.

Emma really cracked me up.  She had crushed on Max since high school but she didn't entertain any ideas that he could want to be with her.  I thought she took the news of Max being a shifter well.  Especially since he bit her,  without asking first,  and turned her to a Puma too.

~no cheating
~om drama - none
~ow drama  - Max's ex makes a play for him when he returns but he shuts her down every time. He's devoted to Emma
~no pushing away
~instalove
~on the lower end of the heat scale
~no epilogue, but it's the fist in a series that I would hope had more info on them.  I need an epilogue though

**********SPOILERS**********

This book is somewhere between a 2,5 and a 3 for me. Sadly, although the writing and the idea was surprisingly good, the book contained some the things I don't enjoy much in PNR.

1) Insta-love. Now this wasn't just insta-love, it was love at the speed of light. The hero said the "precious 3 words" to the heroine in HOURS. Not days, hours. I mean they did know each other in high school(years ago) but they weren't friends or an item so this meeting counts as the "first contact". I get the mating thing happens instantly, I can also understand the insta-lust thing(kind of) but I can't wrap my mind over the fact that he decided he loved her in 5 hours.

The more time he spent with her, the more she fascinated him. She amused him with her wit, aroused him with a glance, frustrated him with her avoidance, and forced him to deal with her in a way very few people could.

This after they've had about 2 conversations which couldn't have been more than 10 minutes each. It's kind of rediculus.

2) The heroine accepted everything way too easily. The hero marked her(turning her at the same moment) after just hours without asking her and then tells her he is a were-puma and she just accepts it. Like he told her he was a banker. Yes, a crush since highschool can help accepting just about anything but come on. AND he was so sure she would be moving in with him right then and there(which she did). There was no denial, no hysterics, nothing. I don't enjoy it when there's tones of drama but a little bit should be there.

What I did enjoy about this short story was the heroine and the writing. I would have liked a longer book so I can appreciate both better. The heroine was fun and quirky and I liked so much the fact that she took everything in good humor.

That's all. The rev is longer than the book!:P

Emma Carter has always held a torch for Max Cannon, who she secretly crushed on in high school. Ten years later she co-owns a curio shop with her best friend and Max has returned, always one to fade into the woodwork Emma has no problem just listening to the town gossips about what he is up to, rather than pursue her feelings.

Alpha Max is glad to be home, and now is looking for his mate. When he overhears Emma's lusty voice on the phone with his beta, he is curious to see her again. It takes only a moment to realize he has wasted 10 years looking, she has been in front of him the whole time. Now all Max has to do is convince Emma that he is a puma shifter and she is his mate.

Thought this was a ton of fun, had some humourous areas in the book and has a definite sequel.

Reread, kept thinking about this one and forgot how short it is. Still a fun read though.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I bought this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

The cover does nothing for me. I prefer the early version with the puma that really said this is a shifter book.

This is the 1st book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content and violence. This book is a quick and fabulous book around 90 pages long.

Dana wrote a book that is an HEA (my favorite kind of book) that is fully of humor. I was pulled into the story as it came alive in my mind. I am really liking her style.

Emma is a strong and confident in who she is, but she lacks confidence in men. Her best friend and her are definitely a pair. Emma’s sense of humor in this book is awesome. I love all the jokes she makes to Max. Max is mega confident and everyone wants him. Simon and Max are another pair of best friends, and I like them both. I really enjoyed Emma and Max’s story, and how chill Emma was about everything because it just felt right.

I loved every moment of this book and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

I highly recommend to all shifter lovers who want a quick read that is full of humor and a HEA!!! Can’t wait for more!!!

So, this was originally a GR recommedation because I like Shelly Laurenston. And since I've been on a SL kick - I decided to delve into this one before getting deeper into SL's Dragon Kin series (while waiting for her Honey Badger book to drop).

WOW.

I haven't run into a plot this thin in...years. Years.

There is a lot of promise but no delivery. SMH. Dude. The heroine runs into her High School crush - 10 years later. They go to dinner and DIRECTLY after he bites her which will turn her furry. There is NO CONSENT. Shit, there's not even a fucking conversation. Just bite and go. And what is worse is that the heroine...is totes cool with this. She's all "Cool." Not an iota of concern, discussion or even surprise.

And it stays this level of BS the entire (skimming) way through. MEEEEHHHH. Bad GR Rec! Bad!

This is basically a novella, more than a book. It's not bad, good start to a series, I guess.

The gist:
* Girl falls for boy
* Boy leaves town
* Boy returns to town (a werepuma)
* Boy realizes ... damn, I should'a nailed (I mean, claimed) her sooner
* Girl can't believe her luck ... oh, ok, if I have to be a werepuma to have him, sure why not, no biggy
* Boy is uberpleased with his choice of mate

The End

Oh, there was also a quickie "I like him, but he certainly couldn't like me" (and visa versa) goin' on with his 2nd (Beta) and his "choice" for mate.

And, a fight scene between the local "he's mine and you can never have him" bitch - which was cool, esp her comeupins hehe >:)

THE End

Favorite Quotes

"All I want for Christmas is a piece of that."

"Didn't we have this discussion, Captain Caveman? A hickey does not make me yours."

That nickname certainly fits most weres.

I read Bear Necessities first and loved it so of course I wanted to go back to where it all began so I jumped right into this one. Max and Emma (and Simon and Becky) are secondary characters in Bear Necessities so I wanted to see how they got started.

This was a nice, quick read. Perhaps too quick. I wasn't too thrilled when the story ended at 75% on my Kindle and then jumped into excerpts. I don't read excerpts (ever) so I wasn't too happy about that. Especially considering that the first excerpt was for the book I had just stopped reading.

Aside from that little pet peeve of mine, I enjoyed the story. Emma has had a crush on Max since high school. He hardly knew she existed. He comes back to his hometown years later to claim his title of Halle's Pride Alpha. He hears her voice and knows that she is his mate... even before actually seeing her again. Emma owns a trinket shop with her best friend, Becky, who has had a crush on Simon, Max's friend (and Beta) for as long as Emma had hers on Max. Both women consider themselves somewhat plain, not overly glamorous or attractive like other women (hence the name of the store they own). Max is handsome, popular and wanted by most of the single females in the town.

I really enjoyed this. I loved Max, even when he was pushing the Alpha attitude a little far. Emma was trying at times but she was okay. Becky was fine. I adored Simon and can't wait to read his and Becky's story. The story was good. I think the only real issue that I had with the story was how everything just happened so fast. From Max seeing Emma again to their relationship moving at warped speed. There is a witchy ex (of Max) who causes some drama that is resolved rather quickly. The ending was pretty good, considering.

Overall, a good book. I just was a little surprised at how fast everything happened and how accepting everyone was in regards to certain things. I will be reading Becky and Simon's story very soon.

Spending the long weekend cleaning up some of these old reviews. I read these years ago, so am leaving my ratings (skim reread) but adding notes.

2.5 Stars

The Wallflower is the first book of the Halle Pumas series which consist of five books. They are all novellas (100-ish) and follow a different couple within the pride w/ the other couples as secondary characters, so they are best to read in order. The main characters are all adults doing adult things (Max is an ophthalmologists), but there’s also a layer of silly/immature going on. Like talking about boobies, or the h’s endless (Garfield, litter box, fido) jokes that may become annoying AF…. FYI

This is Emma and Max’s story. Emma is a quirky outcast, and Max has just returned to become Alpha after being away years at school. There’s a wannabe OW (Livia- dated Max in HS) who tries to meddle, but Max isn’t having it. They mate fairly quickly with little drama; Emma is a human and takes the concept of shifters surprisingly in stride.

Bottom Line- These are quick, easy shifter fluff reads. Nothing heavy, no deep feels, and trigger free. It’s not awful, but pretty silly. (almost reads like YA-soapy PNR- I got serious Howls Romance vibes) Basically, if you’re in the mood for something serious, I’d keep searching. I think they’re .99 in the Kindle Store, or you can read them all on Scribd. I binged them all in one night. They all follow the same formula, so if you hate the first book; you'll probably dislike them all.

I love Dana Marie Bell and I never had the opportunity to rate her books so I've reading them again to provide some well deserved commentary.

I will say that I have read this particular book five times and I love the chemistry between the H/h, Max and Emma. They were engaging and humorous. The Lion-O reference was laugh-out-loud hilarious...I loved the Thundercats growing up so the reference prompted nice childhood memories.

This books was a joke, it felt like a Teens book disguised as an adult PNR. All the gossip the bitchy cheerleader and her desperate girlfriend with their scheming and lack of any self respect. The wallflowers who get the 2 hottest guys, the 'hot' guys who suddenly notice and fall in love with them in a day, and random shifting into Pumas that really had nothing to do with the story and was just thrown in to make the story paranormal.

This was light fluff, super light, almost air, with just as much substance in it. Aka-none.

A breezy, full of skimming and "how old are they again?" moments, read.

This was super cute! Emma is a feisty little human who's had a crush on Max, the Alpha to the Halle Pride of Pumas, for like ever! (Although she doesn't know he's a cat!) Max returns home after years away for school and such and is looking for his mate. Sparks fly... clothes fly... you get the picture! :) I liked Emma for her spunkiness and how she didn't take crap from anyone! Max is a hot guy who takes what he wants - literally - , namely Emma!

I love that she had the shifters be puma. I haven't found many with puma shifters, only a handful. I also liked the alpha power, which I think is probably a combination of how they present themselves, and pheromones their bodies produced. I almost gave it a 4 star, when she first shifted, because she was still in clothes, but it worked out so it gets a five :P would have liked more shifting though, only happened a few times

2 🌟🌟 - Could have been a quirky paranormal, but for inconsistent character traits of the female protagonist and misogynistic traits of male protagonist excused because of his ‘likability’ and the past feelings the female protagonist had for him

Whilst I know the novella format makes it difficult to deliver a well rounded plot and character development I really hate it when authors insert a ‘quirky’, but ‘self-reliant’ female into a forced insta-love situation and have the character act totally against the established character type by just accepting the situation with no push back. This novella has to be one of the absolute worst examples of this type of writing I’ve ever read. Not because it’s a particularly harsh instalove situation, but because in one breath the female is mocking the male and in the next calmly accepting the situation, in one breath standing up to him and the next just capitulating to him overturning her entire life.

My eyes have whiplash from the constant eye rolling. So glad this was a short read otherwise I might be in A&E with rapid-onset and progressive eye strain!

Fun read, very short though so writing seems a little choppy but the fast pace is good when your strapped for time. I liked how Emma handled herself after seeing her high school crush and his 'mine' mate attitude was fun to watch! Didn't so much like that H had bit 2 previous women in the past, kinda takes away from some of the special moments for a non shifter.

This book was so much fun to read. 3 Stars for Emma and Lion-O.

Emma and Becky have a business in Halle. They have been best friends for a long time.

Dr. Max Cannon is back in Halle to take over as Alpha to the Puma Pride. He wants to settle down unfortunately he has a stalker Livia is desperate to get back with Max.

While Max is visiting his Beta Simon he hears Simon talking to Emma and Max's Puma has awakened to her husky voice. He decides to tag along and things heat up.

Emma is a cool cat when she finds out that Max is a Puma and in that respect she is a riot and a hoot. She is the Curana of the Pride and has to prove herself which she does.

Quick and cute, read right through it. The main issue is that it is quite immature in its characters and plot. It seems like it was written by a high schooler that was really mad at the popular girls. The main character just accepted it all too easily without explanation. Then her friend acted, pretty much the same way. But for an erotic paranormal it was good all the same. At least it had a reasonable story line that keeps you reading.

I really enjoyed this book. It was an impulse buy while I was browsing for something to download to my SDR. I don't usually just buy books without researching the author first but I was feeling impulsive...and I'm glad I gave into impulse! I started and finished it within two hours and my only complaint is that it was entirely too short! :)

I liked the premise of this book...and because I assumed it was a free teaser on Kindle I purchased the second one. My thought was that Mrs. Bell hadn't had the leasure to develope a full plot. Nope. The second book I read was just as cheap, just as sex ridden and just as plot-less.
