After producing tractors and heavy machinery from the late 1800s through the 1920s, the Best Company dropped its name in favor of the now-legendary Caterpillar marque. Since then, "Cat" has become best-known for their earth-moving equipment. While approximately two-thirds of this color history digs into that area, the rest examines the company's farm equipment. Color photography illustrates both the machinery that was produced under the Best moniker as long ago as 1885, and the varieties of heavy machinery used today. The final chapter explores Caterpillar's future. Special emphasis is given to breakthrough equipment like the Model 60 bulldozer, diesel tractors, and tracked crawlers. However, everything from wheeled tractors, loaders, graders, and scrapers to backhoes, haulers, and hydraulic lifters are also included.
