What is there to know about me? Not much. I was bred, born, and raised in New York and I have no desire to live anywhere else. One day, I would like to travel to a few places, but for now I am content where I am.
I started out writing poetry in junior high and continued to do so for ten years. I wrote short stories, usually fantasy and romance stories, for my own entertainment throughout high school and college. Back then, I wrote strictly for me and those stories remain locked in the back of my closet in little notebooks, written in my almost unreadable, tiny handwriting. In between writing those stories and poetry, I managed to get a college degree in history.
After graduating college, I had a semester off before graduate school and I didn't really have anything to do with my time. So, I took a chance and wrote a fan-fic and dared to upload it to the Internet. I was surprised that other people enjoyed my work and I've been posting ever since. I had quite a bit of fun with fan fiction and eventually decided to try my hand in original fiction. I suppose it was sort of like coming back around to what I had been doing in high school and college, except this time the stories were for whoever wanted to read them. I uploaded my first original story a few years ago and haven’t looked back. I plan to continue writing as long as I continue getting ideas for stories and it continues to be fun.

I'm loving that Nakia plays a part in Ashni's battles.
Strong women who support one another are so badass.

This is the second book in the series and I was excited to see it. I found the first book to be a quirky fantasy novel with entertaining characters. There's quite a bit of barbs and snarkiness that give it a lighter feel and the chosen family theme gives some warm fuzzies.

That tone continues into the second novel. Honestly, it'd been awhile since I read the first book so details were lost as to who was who and why we were in the state we were in but the story refreshed my memory well enough.

Overall, it's an enjoyable fantasy novel where we get a deeper connection between Nakia and Ashni and see each of their characters develop and mature as individuals and together. Though I was entertained by the read, I also wasn't too on edge. Ashni is a demi-god, which makes the read interesting because of the unique world and her powers but, Ashni is so powerful that I didn't feel a risk of her ever losing, which takes some oomph from the story. I've read a lot of grittier, dark fantasy reads so, for those looking for something lighter, this could be a nice counter.

The book is a mishmash of action, adventure, family drama, continuing romance, military campaigning, monarchies, politics, and comedy.

I think my favorite section was Nakia's perception of entering a new kingdom and how it was described. It was haunting and beautifully done.

This one was not as good as the first (and even that one was not that great, but I could enjoy it for what it was). I found the parts that involved Caligo and Amal a bit of a filler; they were not needed for the plot, in my opinion. Especially the Caligo part: somehow the guy acquired forbidden knowledge, and it was never followed up on. I don't know if that will be adressed in the next installment, but I'm not going to read that, because I saw a comment that it has a less than satisfactory ending, and I'm not in the mood for that right now. I like where Ashni and Nakia are at the end of this one, and I'll keep it there.

My gods. Brilliance at its finest. That ending. Bro. I finished both of the books (the first for a second time) today and bless. Edge of my seat. Can't wait for the third one!
