Despite the sophistication of the modern world it is still, thankfully, still a place full of mystery and fascination, some of which may be repellent and terrifying, the rest awesome and spell binding. Here are strange beasts and monsters, phantom warriors, children raised by wolves, and people with strange talents and even stranger personal attributes.
A book I found squished into a corner of a bookcase at a book selling place while looking for 'the good stuff'. I'm not exactly sure where this book falls on the 'good' scale. Cost me only four dollars, so it's good for me, a great deal in my eyes, but that's going off price, not contents.
It's not exactly the most detailed book, and tries to hype up some things which have been explained, or can be explained.
It has a big section on natural phenomena and addresses paranormal events. Which feel off at times. It's a pretty picture book, but not much of a read really. Covers more than I expected and is one of those books with a weirder shape, so it juts out unless stored beside other big books.
More of a book to browse through if you see it in a store. If you're into hoaxes, crazy events, or weird random history, I'd say buy the book for sure, but if you're looking for explanations, theories, or something more intellectual than picture book-esque, give it a pass.
Picked it up because of the title, cover and pictures inside. It was okay - a lot like reading National Enquirer. Stories are limited, fact and fiction mixed together. The pictures were my favorite part. Not a bad read for someone who wants an idea of what people have been calling strange phenomena the world over.
Colorful and fun to look at, but not too detailed book on strange phenomena. I'm not sure the logic of having a huge section about natural phenomena when the book starts out addressing paranormal events, but there are a lot of pictures that at least make the read interesting.
