“Someone was in that house that caught fire,” Ethan told me. His words sent dread through me. I had a feeling it wasn’t an accident.
Who killed Dr. Amy Jones?
When a local favorite doctor is murdered in the middle of the night, Mia and her sister Christy are on the case. Mia's boyfriend Ethan will have his hands full keeping the two of them out of trouble. Can they stop the killer before they strike again?
Halloween is celebrated all year long in Pumpkin Hollow. There are no paranormal elements, just good clean fun! And a murder, of course.
HARD CANDY AND A KILLER is book #7 in the Pumpkin Hollow series about a town where Halloween is celebrated all year round. There is no paranormal element to these books. They’re short cozy mysteries all featuring the same main character that can be read in maybe two hours each. In this book, Mia Jordan and her sister Christy are trying to figure out who killed Dr. Amy Jones, a local doctor. There is a fire and a body is discovered and everyone is trying to figure out who would have wanted to kill her. I like the addition to Christy in the series. She’s like Andrea to Hannah in the Hannah Swenson mysteries and the scenes they had together in this one (like at the gym) were fun. This is a great series for anyone looking for an easy-to-read cozy with delicious candy descriptions. 4/5 stars.
I have been reading these for a while (and I've almost always had at least one Kathleen Suzette book on my Kindle since I discovered her stories), and I really think that you can see how much her writing improves with each book.
That's not to say that any are bad, really, but I feel like the mysteries get a bit richer with time and experience.
I still love her dialogue (which feels natural, unlike the dialogue that I have read in some cozies) and I love the themed nature of the Pumpkin Hollow books.
I am not a person who tries to really figure "who done it" before the end of the books, and I'm very bad at it when I do. Still, I enjoyed the way that this mystery unfolded.
I really enjoy this series!!!! Mia, Ethan and their whole neighborhood was awaken with a fire down the street. At first they thought it was homeless people did it lighting fires to stay warm, but it wasn't, because they were run off the day before. When Ethan went to ask about the fire it was unclear how it started, but the next day the news was not good. A body was found burned, who? Then there was a missing person report Dr. Amy Jones a well liked doctor most people went to in Pumpkin Hollow. Now the investigation begins and no leads, until her staff were questioned and the husband and they all started blaming each other. There turned out to be quite a few suspects, with motives. Now you read to find out!!!!
Love the Pumpkin Hollow Mystery series. Mia and Christy are the amateur sleuths in this series and they just go around getting into conversations with the right people. Christy says what she thinks. Mia dates Ethan who is a police officers and works as a detective. There are so many suspects that it hard to figure out who done it. This book is about the murder of Dr. Jones. Great cozy Read.
I'm really loving the idea of Mia's sister being in the picture and helping her sleuth. When you have a bestie who doesn't sleuth, the next best thing is an actual sister like Christy. She was getting quite a kick out of being an amateur detective. It was great how she and Mia outsmarted the perp and got Ethan on the scene. Off to borrow the next one in KU.
Pumpkin Hallow is my kind of town!! Well, without the murder 😁 Mia the main character always butts her way into her boyfriend's murder cases, with quick wit & charm
I’m really liking these small town mysteries, and I enjoy the way the author is introducing new characters each time to help the flow of the mystery. This series has been good so far and I look forward to reading more
These are enjoyable, short cozy mysteries. I like the main character Mia, and enjoy hearing about her day as she runs the local candy shop. The mystery was interesting overall and fun to try to figure out the whodunnit.
