I received Lawfully Pursued by Larana Hoopes as an audiobook giveaway and decided to listen to this short sweet Christian romance.
Jesse Calhoun, a SWAT officer is serious about his faith and doesn’t take dating lightly. He believes that kisses should be taken seriously and meant to be given to the right woman at the right time. Brie Carter, daughter of a billionaire decides to accept her best friend’s dare to hook her up with an unknown to see if she can get a proposal out of the person. If she wins, her friend will arrange a date with her movie-star brother who doesn’t even know Brie exist.
Brie goes along with the dare, however she learns that her father has cut her expenses off and she is forced to work at a coffee bar. Fate has it that Jesse frequents the location. Brie finds herself valuing her current way of living and working for the things she wants. She chalks it all up to meeting Jesse and how he has changed her life and Christian beliefs. She also teaches Jesse to learn that people don’t always appear what they seem on the outside.
I found myself really enjoying this story. It grabbed my attention from start until finish. Although it was a short novella listen, it was an entertaining romance. The narrator, Sarah Sampino was okay, however there were areas that were a little dry and did not pack a punch when need (i.e., Jesse’s feeling when he found out about the dare). I there could have been a bit more emotion and the same for Brie when he found out. In the end, there was a nice HEA.
This is my first audiobook by Lorana Hoopes, and the first time I’ve heard Sarah Sampino as a narrator. I enjoyed the work of both women and would be open to their other works.
The title is a play on words. He is a SWAT team member pursuing a millionaire’s daughter. It was a sweet, clean Christian romance that I was able to finish in one day because it is approximately 3 hours. It was nice to read a romance without smut and profanity.
I received this book for free in a giveaway but that did not impact my review.
I enjoyed this clean Christian based story that is an addition to the contemporary Lawkeepers series and also a S.W.A.T book. There is a great cast of characters along with two special people and some of their personal issues that will become involved in a relationship. This story has strong Christian principles and faith in God.
Brie Carter, daughter of a billionaire, has lived off of Daddy her whole life. Shopping, partying, and never having to do anything substantial. Her best friend, Ariel, in a matter of boredom, gets Brie to accept a dare of a bet to have a guy fall for her and propose. The prize, she will be sure that Brie has a date with her brother, Kade, a movie star.
Jesse Calhoun is a member of the SWAT team in New York. Where the other guys are enjoying going out drinking, it is not something Jesse does, especially since he became a Christian. The others convince him to join them at the bar after a bad day that resulted in the loss of lives, and he begrudgingly agrees.
The plot will have Ariel and Brie showing up at a bar, and while there Ariel will notice a table of six men, knowing they are law enforcement. She will look the men over and pick out one that is part of the bet that Brie must approach. Brie does her part, buys a round of beers for the table and approaches where they invite her to have a seat. The plan is working, but Jesse isn’t cooperating. It will take the encouragement of Brendan to convince Jesse that Brie is interested in him.
Brie’s world will get turned upside down when her father makes a directive to her about her out of control spending, get a job or get married, and she has one month to do it in. Learning from Brendan that Jesse likes Java Hut, she gets her a job there, also hoping to get to have time with Jesse.
The story will have Jesse being so different from the men that Brie normally encounters, but there is a unique and genuine likeness to him that she calls off the bet with Ariel right away. Getting to know Jesse is a pleasure and then he introduces her to a new world, one that puts others above him or her. Taking her to a children’s hospital and showering the sick children with presents to bring joy to their life, and taking her on simple but enjoyable dates. Inviting her to church and letting her learn more about God will be the measure of whether or not she is right for him.
“If Jesus was what made Jesse so different, she was beginning to think she wanted Him too.”
I loved how Jesse is never pushy about religion or God, he invites and allows her to make up her mind. Jesse’s life reflects his belief, and the more Brie is around him, the less she wants with what the world has to offer. She continues to work her job and now wants to go back to school. But not everyone is going to be happy with the changes in Brie and trouble is on the way. Will the world win or will love come shining through?
“God whispers in our pleasure, He speaks in our conscience, but He shouts in our pain.”
The story is a beautiful example of putting your faith and trust in God, especially in trying times and to pray and think of others. The story is full of second chances, new beginnings, and relationships with God being the center.
“We could certainly use more kindness in the world.”

Up front, I was given a copy of this audiobook for review. But all opinions are my own.
The Billionaire's Impromptu Bet was a short, contemporary, inspirational romance. It features Brie. the spoiled daughter of a billionaire, and Jesse, a member of a NY SWAT team. The two characters meet as a result of a bet that Brie makes with her best friend. Brie is that character that needs to be redeemed. When she was first introduced in the story, I just didn't like her. I really liked that the author spent time with the character development and really had Brie grow to someone that I could cheer for. I could have used a little more time spent on Jesse. He's a pretty solid character... Christian, has a good job, decent friends, volunteers regularly. One of those characters that just has his act together and is really there to support Brie in her growth.
The story is pretty straightforward. There's a little monkey wrench thrown in to try to upset the happily ever after, but was easily resolved considering the length of the story. I could have used a little more conflict or at least Brie have a little more inner debate regarding dating a man of faith, but that's only because I wanted a little more meat on the story. But what was presented was solid.
This is the first narration by Sarah Sampino that I've listened to. I enjoyed her performance and I think my only complaint would be that there were times when I felt that there should have been more of a break between scenes. But that could also be an editing issue. Otherwise, I had no issued with the performance.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. I can't say that I'll run out and get any more books by Ms Hoopes, but I'm also not adverse to reading more in the future. It was a nice couple hours of diversion.
Audio Review: Author Lorana Hoopes is a new author to me although I have listened to one other book by narrator Sarah Sampino. This is a clean, Christian romance and although not a particularly long listen, I found it enjoyable and captivating. I was a little uncertain about this one when I started but it quickly grew on me. I have to say that I really liked SWAT Officer Jesse Calhoun, however it took quite a while for Brie Carter to grow on me. As for her friend Arielle, I could not stand her and I didn’t particularly like the way Brie behaved when she was with her. The narration was good and it certainly enhanced my enjoyment of the story. It was great to see another side of Brie which Jesse certainly brought out in her and I think it was that that finally had me warming to her character. I didn’t like how they started out based on a bet and I could see how it would all go south once Jesse learned that the feelings he was building on were initially based on a bet and lies. However, it was great to see the characters grow, particularly Brie and become better people throughout the story. Will Jesse be able to forgive Brie when the truth comes out or will Brie go back to being the spoiled little rich girl?
A new to me author and narrator, I took a chance on this novella and fell in love! Brie is the daughter in a wealthy family and takes a bet with her best friend to try to get Jessie, a SWAT officer to propose to her. In the mean time, her father cuts her off from her funds and tells her to get a job and become more responsible. Now as part of the working class, she and Jessie take the time to get to know each other, and Brie learns there is more than being spoiled and selfish. I loved this story for a couple of reasons. Lorana Hoopes wove the thread of helping others into her romance. Seeing how Jessie took time to go spend time with kids who were sick, and how just being there made their lives better gives us that feeling of hope and love. I also liked how Brie was able to realize there is so much more to life than her little bubble. It is a fun, loving listen.
Sarah Sampino does a wonderful narration of this story. It's my first listen of hers, and I enjoyed her pace and voices. I am looking forward to more.

Lawfully Pursued A SWAT Lawkeeper Romance
By: Lorana Hoopes, The Lawkeepers Narrated by: Sarah Sampino
This is my 1st Christian Romance and I enjoyed it, the story grabbed my attention from the start and held it there to the very end. The storylines and characters storylines are interesting and well developed. I loved the two lead characters, it was great to watch Brie Carter’s inner growth and awakening to become a better person. Jesse Calhoun is a sweetheart, he just what Brie needed. I recommend this sweet & entertaining romance novella to anyone looking for a quick enjoyable read or audible listen.
I listened to the Audible edition, Sarah Sampino is a wonderful narrator & storyteller. She performs the voices of all the characters and brings them to life from the pages to your ears. Thank you for the great & entertaining listen.
I really like this SWAT Lawkeeper story line! The one thing I missed with this book was the chance to hear a little more about actual SWAT experiences. Jesse, the SWAT member, was such a nice guy and I really liked his character. I would have enjoyed at least one SWAT callout detailed in the story to add another layer to Jesse's character. Brie's character was a total transformation from the beginning of the story to the end. THAT, I totally enjoyed! She was a spoiled rich kid who had to learn some tough lessons when her daddy cut off her money to teach her some "adulting"!!!! I thought that was great! Jesse and Brie's relationship was very sweet and interesting to watch grow. I recommend this book! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author but wasn't required to write a review. This review is my own opinion.
Sweet Christian romance. SWAT officer, Jessie Calhoun, is serious about his faith, and doesn’t believe un dating unless he believes that it’ll lead somewhere. Brie Carter, daughter of a billionaire, accepts her bff dare to approach the quiet and unassuming Officer Calhoun. The dare is to date Jessie and get him to propose, only then will Brie’s friend put in a good word with her actor brother. The brother who doesn’t know that Brie exists. But life takes an interesting turn when Brie is forced, by her father, to take a job at a coffee shop. Brie begins to learn the value of working for a living. She also enjoys her time with Jessie and us falling for him. What will happen if Jessie finds out about the dare? Can there be an HEA after that lie?? Good story of opposites attract, responsibility and forgiveness. Narration was on point.
Lawfully Pursued by Lorana Hoopes is a sweet, delightful romance. Jesse is a serious-minded member of a SWAT team. He’s religious and has no interest in superficial, frivolous women. Brie is a spoiled, rich young woman with no direction or ambition. When her father cuts her money supply off and insists she get a job, she thinks the world as she knows it has ended. And it has. Once she meets Jesse, she learns there is so much more to life than buying designer bags. This was a refreshing story with important messages. I highly recommend it for the young adults of today who are lacking positive role models. Sarah Sampino did a wonderful job with the narration. She handled both the male and female voices authentically.
I listened to this book in the audio form. I had never read a book written by Lorana Hoopes nor narrated by Sarah Sampino before. I really, really enjoyed it. This story was a Christian romance. The main male character, Jesse, is a devoted Christian and lives by his beliefs. Brie, the heroine, is basically a little rich girl that gets told to grow up and make something of herself--credit cards cut off, has to get a job. Although Brie and Jesse come together under dubious circumstances Jesse turns out to be the best thing for her, if only he will give her a chance. I was given this audio book for my enjoyment. All thoughts are my own.
I listened to Lawfully Pursued on audiobook and enjoyed the story and very good narration. When I chose this story to read I hadn’t realized that it was a “clean, Christian” romance which is not exactly what I usually read so a little outside of my comfort zone. I was pleasantly surprised and entertained by this sweet, clean romance. An enjoyable listen.
Just finished reading this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was nice to see how the author put a rich girl and a policeman together and taught them the true meaning of love and learning how to become a believer in both the Lord and themselves. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

What fun to think of being a billionaire. This is a bit of a switch, most of the “billionaires” in the books I’ve read are the guys. This one is the girl, and she takes a bet from a friend only to find out that she really doesn’t want to complete it. Wow, to have all the money you’d like, what would you do? Brie learns some great lessons about herself and about others. Money doesn’t have to be the main thing or make a person lay around eating bon-bons all day long. In these stories, the author shows the human side of the characters and all their struggles. I appreciated Brie’s father and his suggestions and conditions. This story was sweet and fun to read. There was tender romance and wonderful characters. I really enjoyed reading this book in just a day. Lorana Hoopes is a “new-to-me” author and I just might pick up more of her books. I recommend you check this book out. It will bring a smile to your face. I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read this book as part of the Love, Faith & Tender Kisses anthology
This is a good heart transformation story with a softly, softly approach that is believable. The billionaire's daughter is bored with her life and allows her friend to talk her into a bet. The challenge is to persuade a man of her friend's choosing to propose to her within a month. Right from the start, the bet seems destined for failure. We never discover what the criteria the friend uses to choose her target, but as the story unfolds we discover that the man she must persuade is a quiet, committed Christian who is looking for more than a pretty face. He isn't impressed by her wealth. No spoilers here, except to say that the friend who came up with the challenge doesn't play fair.
This is a sweet short story by Lisa Renee. It’s the first book I have read by this author, and it left me wanting to read more.
Becca wants to stay working in the outdoors, but her parents want her to go to college. She and her bothers best friend Paul come up with an idea for a fake engagement. I really felt for Becca as I know what its like to have a parent want you to do something different to what you want. Becca also wants to please her parents and struggles with confrontations and the feeling of disappointing them. I love how the story goes from a fake relationship to both questioning their feelings. Good way to start the box set.
This is such a nice Christian Romance with it being between SWAT memeber, Jesse Calhoun and a billionaire daughter Brie Carter. What started out as a bet grew into and amazing relationship and a coming to God after Brie's mom died of cancer.
I love this contemporary romances that's clean it came onto my radar after reading alot of smutty books and found a few very nice Christian Romance books and it got me into the walk with clean Christian reading.
Thank you Lorana for writing such heart felt books where you can relate to your own relationship to God and our Romance books.
Brie is not the type of friend I would want to hang out with.
Spoiled and spending money were her defining traits. Then her best friend made a bet. She needed to get a man to ask her to marry him, in one month. She would get to have a date with her friends brother. But many things changed. She had to go to work. Beautiful out come Jessie introduced her to God and she will be at be the same!
Spoiled rich girl Brie is bored and accepts a rather questionable bet by her best friend. Shortly afterwards her father, tired of her aimless existence, gives her an ultimatum and as she has no skills, she takes on a menial job. Being with Jesse and working, opens her eyes to the wider world, selfless people and God. An interesting story with redemption at it’s heart. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book gifted by the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you for writing good lean romance it's not a way our younger generation feels but it's the only way to grow with our mate lovely was quite happy to read and not have to skip pages because love is a precious gift. A fan Carmen will stay on your books till they run out!
The billionaire is not who you think it is! The billionaire proposes a bet to a friend...meet a stranger and be engaged within the month to receive a special prize. This being said, the plan was put into motion. However, things are changing. Interesting story, quick read, and quite good.
It was nice to read one of the story of a billionaire woman. I enjoyed seeing her journey as she began to find herself and her passion. I appreciated that her value wasn’t wrapped up in her love interest but he inspired her to be better. Such a sweet story.
It's one of the first Christians books I've read, and I have to say that I loved it! It was beautiful to see Brie's development throughout the story. And Jesse... well, I think he was an amazing partner for our girl 💛 I really look forward to reading the entire saga!
