A man yearning for forgiveness. A woman fulfilling a promise; the danger that brings them together.

Caleb Chapman has never recovered from his brother’s death. He blames himself and vows his remaining days to protecting his family. The chance for adventure calls when he leads a cattle drive from Texas to Nebraska. What he doesn’t expect is to find a beautiful woman with no memory of who she is or how she got there.

Lydia Whitcomb has no memory of why she’s on the run or protecting a seven-year-old boy. She just knows that something terrible has happened and she is now on a cattle drive to Nebraska. What she doesn’t expect is a handsome cowboy to watch over her until her memory can return.

What is the secret Lydia has been hiding? Will Lydia be able to hide her feelings for Caleb as easily as she hides her memories? Once her secret comes to light, will it tear the couple apart, or finally be the reckoning they need?

This is book three of a brand new western series from the creator of the Pinkerton Matchmaker. It follows the lives and loves of the Chapman family on the rugged Nebraska Plains during the 1870s. There are five books in this series. Although there are no cliffhangers in the individual books, they should be read in order for the most enjoyment.

Adventurous cowboy

Caleb's story is a true cowboy adventure filled with everything needed except indians. With a long journey ahead of him, he never pictures finding a woman on the trail would be someone he has met before. Lydia is leaving all she knows behind to keep her son Hart safe. She to terrible circumstances, she is left to die and has amnesia. She thinks Hart is her son and Caleb is her husband. Caleb doesn't fathom leaving them in a strange town along the cattle drive and being on the receiving end of his mother's faith when he finally reached home. Readers of previous books will recognize many characters and those who have not read previous books will enjoy the author's story telling skills and how she incorporates the last with the present.

I have been reading the series since Owen was released. This is an impactful series of Western Life and Love set in the wilds of Flat River, Nebraska. Cattle and Horse ranching! Beautiful way of life back in the late 1800's. The Chapman Family is a tightly knit family of brothers and sisters who have seen both grief and joy in the past few years. This series just keeps getting better! Each book released carries the characters along and gives them depth. The plots are extraordinary and written with love. You will not be able to put these books down. I recommend starting with Owen and working your way through the entire series! You will not be sorry!

Third time's charm!

Christine Sterling has once again written a fantastic series with the Chapman's! Owen was a great read and often a follow up book doesn't compare, but then Oliver was written. It was just as good if not better! Now Caleb goes on the scene and Wow! Did things really start to get interesting. Caleb goes on a cattle drive and gets more than cattle! All the twists and turns make his life not only dangerous, but romantic as well. These boys are down to earth cowboys and down right adorable and believable! Read all three...I can't wait for Everett!

The author has penned an excellent story full of action and human emotion. This is Caleb and Lydia's story and primarily takes place on a cattle drive rather than the Chapman Ranch. When Caleb finds Lydia she is suffering from amnesia and Caleb determines in his heart to keep her safe as she is certainly fleeing from something or someone. Will Caleb be able to keep Lydia safe and will they reach a HEA. Be sure to read this story to find out. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. If you have not read the first two books in this series, be sure you don't miss them.

Caleb, Lydia and Hart

This is a sweet love story and it is written by Christine Sterling. She did an amazing job with the plot and the characters in this tale. Caleb is the third Chapman son and is in charge of the cattle drive for the family. Lydia, and son, Hart were planning to travel by wagon in a group of wagons since the death of her husband. Tragedy hits the train and most all are killed by bandits. Lydia and Hart survive the massacre and found by the cowboys lead by Caleb. You will enjoy discovering how Caleb, Lydia and Hart find their happily ever after.

Sheltering Her Courageous Heart

Caleb and Lydia have a wonderful and interesting story. Lydia has no idea why she is protecting a seven year old boy or why she is running; nor does she remember who she is running away from when she finds herself on a cattle drive. Caleb is in charge of a cattle drive. They are moving the livestock from Texas to Nebraska. He never expected to find the horror they came upon on route, especially the traumatized woman with no memory of herself or her son. When her memories return, will it draw them closer or push them further apart?

Adventures, cowboys and love!

I think this is definitely one of the most beautiful and interesting cowboy stories! The novel gives an amazing picture of what a cattle drive is. Plus bad guys vs. Good guys, love and kindness vs. Evil and destruction. I like how though one wouldn’t call it a deep philosophical read, the story touches subjects like choices and consequences, love and a good family that make everything better. And of course sweet, clean romance.

Love on the trail

Caleb Chapman fell in love while on the trail driving his herd back from Texas to Nebraska. Finding a wagon train abandoned and burned with few survivors he could do no more than care for the survivors, one of which was his soon to be wife Lydia and her son Hart. A fast paced but very interesting story ensues as they travel back to flat river Nebraska and home.

really enjoyed this one

Loved Hart and Lydia right away and I’m very interested in Vangie. Caleb was a great hero and it was fantastic to see the female help the male lead. I’m kinda glad this book took place away from the ranch. It was nice to get away from the Chapman ranch. I can’t wait to read Everett’s story with Polly even if it means Ellie will probably be featured. So far she’s been my least favorite of the women.

A dusty cattle drive with thousands of cattle. A mysterious woman who doesn't remember her small son, and who thinks Caleb is her husband. A hint of a secret; and a threat of danger, and some romance. This all makes for a very exciting story. Caleb is the third book in this series which is getting better and better with each story. Great job, Christine!!!

A great story.

Caleb- on a cattle drive, heading back he runs into the h
Lydia- taking her son away from danger of a gang.
I enjoyed reading this intriguing story that is well written with charismatic characters. This story has drama and adventure. Their story has a satisfying HEA. But there is some questions hopefully answered in the next few stories in this series.

Lydia’s rescuer

At first I was a bit disappointed in this story, only because Caleb and Lydia didn’t have any interaction until past the midway point of the book. But then, as with all the Chapman’s, the protective and loving part of him became very evident.

What a surprising revelation as to who a certain someone actually is! I certainly didn’t see that coming!

Lydia Whitcomb and her son, Hart, are not what Caleb expected to bring home from his cattle drive. He definitely didn’t plan on a broken leg. Like all the stories in this series we get romance, humor, family secrets, conflicts and most of all, love. The Chapman family loves almost everyone. So many family secrets are coming to the surface, especially when you add in the Harmans. I am loving this series and can’t wait for the next book.

This was a fantastic Historical Christian fiction book in the First Families of Flat River series. The story was believable and the characters were heartwarming. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series! I was able to read a copy of this book via Readera, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.

Such a good read!!! There is a lot of cowboys, some bad guys, a lady in distress, and a loveable little boy. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens to all of them. It's definitely one you will read in a single sitting!!!

After reading the first 2 books in this series plus the Pinkerton Matchmaker series books about Penelope and Marianne, I was disappointed in this book. It seemed duller with too many gaps in the timeline. It makes me wonder if I want to continue with this series.

A fantastic read with characters I feel in love with! The author snags your heart right away and keeps it engaged until the very end. I read this book in one sitting, i just couldn’t put it down. Loss on the trail also brought with it laughter and a sweet clean romance that was fun and flirty.

Loved it!

In loving the Chapman family! Caleb driving cattle from Texas to Nebraska. Along the way they come upon a wagon train that had been attacked. Just a few survivors but among them is a woman and her son that he'd met just before they started.

I listened to this one on Audio. The narrator did a great job. I did really enjoy this series. However, This was retitled from the original book. All in all, isn't bad, I just wish the cover said so and told you what book in the series it was.

Good

Great series. I like the characters, there's a nice but of adventure, some humor and romance.
I do think this one ended way too quickly, I felt like I skipped a chapter or two and had to flip back to see what I'd missed. All of a sudden - that's it, they're married..

Sheltering Her Courageous Heart

This was another great story about Caleb and him finding a bride. Lydia and her son was a traveling with a wagon train and they were attacked and nearly all were killed except for six people. Caleb and his team of cowboys came across them and rescued those that were left only beginning of their trouble.
