WINNER, 2021 Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Award for Best Mystery

You can't see the world in black and white until you eliminate the gray.

Weeks away from a national presidential election, politicians, voters, and the news media are divided along ideological lines. The division becomes even deeper when members of the conservative media are being assassinated by a hidden killer. It’s up to veteran FBI agent Bodie Anderson to find him and bring him to justice.

After a successful 25-year career, Bodie is bone-weary and ready to retire, but the memory of a horrible tragedy from his past keeps him going.

He soon discovers he’s matching wits with a hired assassin who is equally as smart, and who shares a similar history. As the body count rises, with the future of the country at stake, Bodie finds himself in a race against time to catch the killer, before a final, deadly showdown pushes him to his physical and mental limits.

Welcome to this Whimsical Wednesday. This week’s Gem is gold and has been poured in the shape of a bullet. See it shine and glow in the firelight? It looks pure, but it’s not. It’s been corrupted and no one knows that better than Gem Maker Benny Sims. This is his “Code Gray”.

With the 2020 Primaries being put off in many places (here in my part of the country it is put off until June of 2020) it gives us time to reflect a good deal more than we might have otherwise. “Code Gray” gives us food for thought on just how far One is willing to got to wreck, to control, to win.

If you miss the days of good old political intrigue novels, miss them no more. Sims has brought them back. His grizzled and tired FBI Agent, Bodie Anderson will have you wishing Regis Toomey and Bogart were still alive. His assassin is spot on, not complete animal, but just enough so the name Kuklinski springs to mind. The action is hot and heavy and often comes out of nowhere.

Benny gives us great gifts with this novel. Tight writing, good characters, a storyline that would make Robert Ludlum proud. This page turner will have you putting the coffee on and setting up til dawn to see if the ending is what you think it will be. I’m lucky, I like my endings with a twist.

So pick up “Code Gray” today. If your favorite book store is closed, you can get it online at all the best places. Drop me a line here and let me know how you liked it. And remember, Tales From The Book Dragon Facebook still has many more authors to come! Authors, I have a few things coming up you may be interested in, too!

Until tomorrow, I remain, your humble Book Dragon,

Drakon T. Longwitten

Benny Sims wrote “Code Gray” and all I have to say is WOW! I normally don't read books with anything political but this book really drew me in from page one. At times the mind-blown action and suspense were so intense that I caught myself holding my breath. The author filled my mind with images that were so precise he had my heart racing; and the feeling of sadness that some of the characters endured was beyond what anyone could imagine.

Bodie, the main character, is a veteran FBI agent. “Anderson. His name is Bodie Anderson ... Seventy cases solved. The guy is very, very good at what he does... The killer smiled to himself. Finally, some real competition. A real challenge.” It is a race against time to solve these murders before another member of the local media is killed. Bodie and his team push themselves to the limit, both mentally and physically, to find the killer.

I'm glad I took a chance to read this book because it was so well written! Benny Sims is an excellent writer. He makes the reader see things so vividly; completely engaging you into the story. I was rooting for the good guys to solve the crime quickly. I highly recommend this book for those that like intense action, crime mysteries and just a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Code Gray by Benny Sims was a interesting read, I found the book to be action packed and a little gory at times. Bodie is the main character in the story, a veteran FBI agent that is in a race against time to find a serial killer before me kills anymore people. I found the book to be very well written, and he went into great detail so I could picture everything in my mind as I was reading the story. I would definitely recommend this book to others. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Wow! I have great admiration for Bodie Anderson. This is an exciting FBI tale. Several murders. Some surprises. Fantastic ending. I am delighted to see that this is book 1. I am eager to read more of Bodie's adventures. Enjoy seeing Tony's growth, too. Thanks to the author for providing a copy for my voluntary review.

Interesting political thriller. Full of twists and turns, thought provoking. the pace really kept me going. Police investigation novels are not usually my thing but this was a great profile in investigative work, full of interesting dynamics and surprises. And, I love the name Bodie!! Was provided and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Updated 8/11:
I very rarely reread books, but the first time I read Code Gray was in a pdf years before it was even published. After its release in February, I continuously promised the author that I would reread it. Full disclosure, the author is my boyfriend's dad :) That being said, I've always been an honest book reviewer. No matter who it is, I feel like as a reader it is my "duty" lol to be honest in my book reviews. I use book reviews to decide what books are worth my time, and I imagine other people do this as well. So, what's my honest opinion? Is this worth reading? ABSOLUTELY. Despite having read this book before and kind of knowing who the killer was, this reread took me by surprise. It had been so long since I read it, and having it read it before editors/publishing and such, this time it was like I was reading it from new eyes. I love books with short chapters, and the way these chapters were written kind of made it read like a tv show. It was nice to start and finish each chapter at a "scene" because I could always pick up where I left off, if that makes sense. I read a lot of books- about 97% of them are romance. Basically, the other 3% better be good enough to keep my interest. This book definitely did that. It was fast paced and suspenseful. Even today when I was supposed to be working, I kept telling myself "one more chapter" because something good kept happening. Bodie Anderson is the kind of agent that you can be obsessed with. He's got a really good back story, and he's kind of like Dr. House, kinda odd, really smart, super good at his job. When you pair Bodie with a hairless killer (no really) killing conservative media personalities during an actual election year where it's really a battle of conservatives vs liberals, you end up with a really interesting story. Towards the end, I found myself really addicted to the action and knew that I couldn't end my night without seeing what happened (I didn't remember a single thing about the ending lol). Overall, this reread ended up being even better than I remembered it. Perhaps this romance girl will have to venture out of her genre more often. Especially for another Bodie Anderson thriller.

Code Gray is one of those books that you just can’t get out of your mind. With all the twists and turns, you really have no clue who to trust. The twist at the end is one that I didn’t see coming. The thrills of this book left me thinking, what’s next for Bodie Anderson?

Loved the book. The characters of a tough "mature" detective and the new wet-behind-the-years recruit has been done before of course, but the I loved the interaction and the pain endured by someone that lives for the job and is driven for justice.

The overall plot of manipulation of public opinion used to be just fantasy but now seems to close to the current political situation!
