The Master of Kung Fu and Friendship was born in the smog-wastes of New Jersey, then journeyed to a mountain in Asia. There, he learned of the power of friendship, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is Kung Fu.
He now resides in a dojo in North Carolina, where he has sired a future champion with his Mistress of Friendship. He writes of fantasy and humor, strong women and dragons.
He is the author of The Wicked Instruments series and The Dragon's Dream Saga. His biggest influences are the greats in humor - Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, and Chuck Palahniuk.
This book was a freebie and I’m not sure what I was expecting. What I got was fast paced, high action fight scenes and the start of interesting characters and the glimmer of a world that intrigued me. This is a short story and as such doesn’t allow for much time and space to build up the plot and characters, so there were things that were lacking, but I can’t quibble because the format doesn’t allow for it.
Set in the future, the landscape of the world has changed radically and magic and mythic races are part of every day life. Cora Blake is a 23 year old woman who is Native American who was head hunted whilst getting her law degree because she is a magic user. This book covers her first mission, when she meets her potential new team and she gets to face the reality of what she has signed up for.
Her character is interesting, as are the others that surround her. She’s young and idealistic, but she has been thoroughly trained to continue, no matter what.
I’m really interested in reading the rest of this series, because this taster was tantalising.
This prequel to The Dragon's Dream Saga by D.C. Fergerson was a fast-paced action-adventure that was a joy to read and certainly gave the reader something to look forward to with the continuation of this series. The characters were identifiable and relatable combined with some very high tech equipment and intensive mental and physical training. I look forward to adding more of this series to my TBR file. This is a voluntary review of a review copy of this book from Story Origin.
Nations have split and Cora has been recruited to NSA due to her magic ability but she has to learn but her training is broken off due to a delicate situation in Cairo. The question is whether or not she can perform under hostile conditions. Well worth reading.
