Come along for a thrilling ride with the irresistible Barons. Join them on a daring cruise through their high school years where they slow down just long enough to kiss the girls and gas up their hot rods. The Urchins in Mark’s first book become royalty, if only in their own minds. They, along with 10 other guys, form a car club, which they call The Royal Order of the Barons. By renting their own garage which they equip with all the necessary equipment, they are able to turn old cars into Hot Rods. Three of the Barons decide to take dancing lessons at Arthur Murray’s. This skill, along with their own cars improves their ability to meet girls.
After school Mark meets his Father to help deliver packages for the Downtown Department stores. He works as a jumper. It is a hard job make even more difficult by his Father’s expectations of him. To get out from under his Father, he finds a job selling women’s clothes; including panties and bras.

In Washington, DC, they pitch their tent a short walk from the Washington Monument. In the Great Smokey Mountains they are visited by bear in the middle of the night. St. Augustine, the United States’ oldest city, fascinates the family. The fort used to defend the city from pirates particularly fascinates Mark. His Dad loves the Alligator Farm. Marineland is so interesting; his Father actually rents a motel room for the family. They enjoy a moonlight stroll along Miami Beach, but the park patrol would not let them take a swim in the dark. They enjoy an extended stay at Vogel State Park in northern Georgia, on their way home.
To improve his driving skills prior to taking the driver’s test, Mark’s, Dad allows him and a friend to use the family car. Mark manages to wreck the car. He tells his Father that he can fix it. “You fix it, you can have it,” his Father explodes. That is how Mark Anthony creates his own Cleopatra.
On another month long family camping trip, they travel through New England into Canada. They visit Quebec City, Montreal and Ottawa. After an extended stay in North Bay, they stop for Sunday Mass in Callander. There they meet the Dionne Quintuplets, Canada’s most famous children.
While still in high school Mark figures out how to get the GI Bill by serving in the U. S. Navy for only two years instead of four. Along the way he meets Mel Torme, the famous singer, who buys Mark and his date a round of drinks.
