In 2017, an unidentified woman accused respected Australian actor John Jarratt of an historic rape, which allegedly happened over 40 years ago.
John Jarratt maintained his innocence of this assault from the start, but the allegation and the publicity surrounding it was enough to cost Jarratt his career and his livelihood.
The female bringing the accusation walked out of court without this costing her a cent. And she still has a suppression order protecting her identity.
Told from a place of candid honesty, with an underlying tone of frustration, anger and hurt, Assault by Media is John Jarratt’s call to action; his ‘enough is enough’, and his fight for justice after a wrongful, historical accusation of rape.
Jarratt, cult icon and one of Australia’s best-loved screen actors, grew up in rural New South Wales and Queensland.
A very insightful and well presented book that states the facts of a person accused of a crime. The unjust accusations, the lack of credible facts and what John had to endure was explained from a victims perspective. Thank goodness he has such a wonderful family. A great read!
Not a bad book. There was probably too much whinging but the writer is angry. I don't know if he is guilty or innocent. But he was found not guilty. I guess Jarratt is just giving his opinion, which is fine. He is entitled to tell his side of the story. The ending was a bit weak. That's my only real complaint.
Quick read, and while I found it interesting reading the story behind the scenes, John nearly drove me insane with his whinging about his feelings regarding real perpetrators or “maggots” as he calls them. I found myself, more than a few times, thinking ok!ok! I’ve got it, now get back to finishing the story.
What a terrible story showcasing the inequity when someone of profile is accused. Proof? Not needed to get the story out. I wish you all the best John Jarrett.
