Author of more than one hundred books, Joan Lowery Nixon is the only writer to have won four Edgar Allan Poe Awards for Juvenile Mysteries (and been nominated several other times) from the Mystery Writers of America. Creating contemporary teenage characters who have both a personal problem and a mystery to solve, Nixon captured the attention of legions of teenage readers since the publication of her first YA novel more than twenty years ago. In addition to mystery/suspense novels, she wrote nonfiction and fiction for children and middle graders, as well as several short stories. Nixon was the first person to write novels for teens about the orphan trains of the nineteenth century. She followed those with historical novels about Ellis Island and, more recently for younger readers, Colonial Williamsburg. Joan Lowery Nixon died on June 28, 2003—a great loss for all of us.

I give this 1.5 stars. It kind of fulfilled an unusual urge to read a cheesy story, but mostly I just found the main character and her sister annoying: doting older sister, strong-willed wanting-to-be-independent little sister, love triangles ... uh, love quadrangles, and predictable.

Cleanliness: there are several people in love with several people, and several shared kisses with the several people they're in love with.

With each review, I provide a Cleanliness Report, mentioning any objectionable content I come across so that parents and/or conscientious readers (like me) can determine beforehand whether they want to read a book or not. Content surprises are super annoying, especially when you’re 100+ pages in, so here’s my attempt to help you avoid that!

Again, an extra half star because I loved these books as a kid! This is the second half of the story started in High Trail to Danger. The ending wraps up nicely without being too perfect. I felt as I was reading this that it seems best suited for tweens or young teens even though it was shelved in the children's section. Sure enough, I saw on the library stickers that it had been labeled YA (probably when I first read it) then changed to J FIC sometime later.

This book was so good! As soon as I started it I got obsessed with the characters and their relationships with each-other.

This book was actually pretty good. If I had to change anything it would be how Sarah had two guys that she liked. Sometimes it was confusing who she was explaining or talking about. I was surprised that Jeremy was not the killer. I was kinda thinking that at the end. In the beginning I wanted Sarah to marry Jeremy but towards the end I switched to Clint. I would recommend this book to people because its an overall good book. Toward the end of the book sometimes it was like, woah didn't see that coming! I didn't know this but I read the second book. This book is a sequel and I should probably read the first one.

Wow really just barely finished this book and it was incredible! At times it was really predictable, but sometimes it caught me off guard by making it purposely predictable and then not falling through. It was a little slow at the beginning, but after awhile I was looking forward to picking it up.

E' un giallo western al femminile, un genere sicuramente peculiare ed originale, con un'ambientazione che mi ha subito attratta. Purtroppo la trama risulta un po' affrettata e non ci sono grandi colpi di scena, comunque è stata una lettura piacevole.

Companion to High Trail to Danger, and just as good. Wish there was a third book.

During the heyday of the Colorado silver rush, Sarah Lindley came west to Leadville CO to find her father… and found him just as he was shot. He lived long enough to say that he had proof of a crime gang and to extract a promise from Sarah to bring criminals to justice. Sarah sent for her 15 year old sister and began looking for the clues her father had died before telling. Both helping and confusing her were two men who wished to marry her. When sister Susannah arrived, she further complicated the search. This was a quick (2 hour) read. It would be a good young adult book as it features two teen-aged girls and contains no sex, little violence or swearing.
