Powerful, Different, Equal: Overcoming the misconceptions and differences between China and the US

Rate this book
From Trump’s aggressive rhetoric against China to the escalating trade war with tit for tat responses, and China’s 2025 initiative that threatens the US global leadership in advanced technologies, tensions between the US and China (the two dominant forces of today’s world) have never been higher.

This book provides a timely analysis of the US-China relationship. Each model is deeply rooted in their respective histories and cultures, with both models highly successful in achieving their main goals and highly resilient over time. It explores the core misconceptions on governance, economic, social and military issues, and the root causes of these misconceptions. If China and the US could close the gap by each understanding those differences and their implications, the author argues, they could work together to overcome global issues to the benefit of all.

Mr. Walker, relying on decades of experience with US/China relations, has created a very understandable and enlightening guide to how the Chinese government and Chinese people think through issues in contrast to our more Western (and specifically U.S.) thinking. Far from being a negative commentary on either country, this is truly an educational and historically supported manuscript that will help anyone better understand the dilemmas that both countries face when trying to work together.

This book is fascinating. It was a little more political and economically based than I typically enjoy, but it shows how important it is for Americans to understand China. Walker also talks about how America's method may not be best for everyone, and we don't have to have a winner/loser in every situation.

Such an Easy Read

This book is beautifully and logically written and edited. Arguments are clearly laid out and it's easy to understand the points the author, a Sinophile, is making. You could easily read this at the beach.
