The Wanderer #3

A Flame Through Eternity

Rate this book
It started 3 000 years ago. It ends now. Who survives the final confrontation?

According to Helle Madsen, being the protagonist of a time-spanning epic love story has some things going for it, primarily Jason Morris. Because seriously, meeting up with your fated lover after 3 000 years apart is not bad—at all. Unfortunately, where Jason goes, there goes Sam Woolf, yet another very, very ancient acquaintance—with the fundamental difference that Sam is not into Happily Ever After. He’s into destruction, more specifically of Jason and Helle.

Helle may believe in second-chance love, but she sure doesn’t believe in reincarnation. Okay, she didn’t believe in stuff like that until she met Jason Morris a year or so ago. By now, she has accepted that sometimes impossible things are quite, quite possible—like an ancient princess being reborn as an ambitious financial analyst.
Finding Jason was like finding the part of her that had always been missing—a perfect match. But handling Sam Woolf, the reborn version of their ancient nemesis is something of a trial. No sooner do you have him well and surely beat, but up he bounces again. Sheesh, will it take an oak stake to permanently rid their lives of him?

Sam Woolf is a powerful adversary. Too powerful, even. Jason and Helle will need help from unexpected quarters to finally bring this tangled, ancient love-and-hate triangle to some sort of conclusion. Question is, will they survive the experience?

Anna Belfrage

Anna was raised abroad, on a pungent mix of Latin American culture, English history and Swedish traditions. As a result she's multilingual and most of her reading is historical- both non-fiction and fiction. Possessed of a lively imagination, she has drawers full of potential stories, all of them set in the past. She was always going to be a writer - or a historian, preferably both. Ideally, Anna aspired to becoming a pioneer time traveller, but science has as yet not advanced to the point of making that possible. Instead she ended up with a degree in Business and Finance, with very little time to spare for her most favourite pursuit. Still, one does as one must, and in between juggling a challenging career Anna raised her four children on a potent combination of invented stories, historical debates and masses of good food and homemade cakes. They seem to thrive…

For years she combined a challenging career with four children and the odd snatched moment of writing. Nowadays Anna spends most of her spare time at her writing desk. The children are half grown, the house is at times eerily silent and she slips away into her imaginary world, with her imaginary characters. Every now and then the one and only man in her life pops his head in to ensure she's still there.

A FLAME THROUGH ETERNITY BY Anna Belfrage, THE WANDERER Series Book #3

Two men and a girl with the golden hair are reborn over and over again. After thirty centuries, things have to come to an end. This is a story about Helle and Jason, and Samion (Sam Woolf) who was never able to get Helle for himself and is hell bent on destroying both Helle and Jason. As the final installment of the series, A Flame Through Eternity is delivered by Belfrage with an amazing battle of the century to settle this once and for all.

This was a fun romantic suspense fantasy novel that captured my attention for its great characters that I enjoyed reading about. The creativity of how these lost souls from 3,000 years ago and now living amongst the present day was really fun for me. I loved that the undercurrent is about the love Jason and Helle has for each other, something that could not be lost through the depths of time and that is the love and connection Helle and Jason have for each other.

This is an entertaining read and definitely a good one to pick up.

A Flame Through Eternity
The Wanderer Series #3
By: Anna Belfrage

*REVIEW* ☆☆☆.5
I'll preface this review by saying I do recommend reading the series in order because it's confusing otherwise. I know this because I have only read A Flame Through Eternity, and I knew what was going on but in a befuddled way(if that makes sense). Not to detract from the story, though, because I do see the appeal of the series, especially if you are interested in time travel and soulmates through time. Basically, these two people are soulmates who find each other again and again over thousands of years;however, there is this evil guy who wants to tear them apart and take the girl for himself. He's like a cockroach. You just can't get rid of him, you know? In this story, the couple are married and think the bad guy is gone for good, but fate never did fight fair. They must fight, again, for their one true love. It's a good story overall. At times, the plot moved too slowly for my taste, and the characters were kind of cheesy silly sometimes in a way that grated on my nerves. Honestly, I've come to the conclusion that I'm not the biggest fan of time travel. Still, the story has it's good moments of drama, romance, heat, action and love. I think fans of the series will love this last book, and time travel enthusiasts will enjoy it, too. Certainly try it if this appeals to your taste!

THE TRILOGY TOGETHER MAKES FOR A PERFECT MARATHON READ

How do I tell you why you should go out and get this book (the series if you don't have it) without telling you the best parts of the story or running out of space to write it all?

Well, let me take a stab at telling that from the first book I was hooked in by the dynamics between Jason, Sam and Helle. This was not what one would think of when they her a triangle. This was more. There were depths to each character alone, but putting them all together and intermingling the dynamics they each bring. Book two brought you a bit closer to the underlying issue between them, but right here in book three you get to see so much. You will truly understand this statement from the author blurb for this book, "Sheesh, will it take an oak stake to permanently rid their lives of him?"

The ride was intense and satisfying. The read could only be better if you sit down and do a marathon weekend or week of all three book of the Wanderer series.

Just like its predecessors, A Flame Through Eternity by Anna Belfrage is well-written, emotionally intense, deliciously sexy, and wonderfully captivating. I truly enjoyed this epic and fun romantic suspense fantasy tale and utterly loved all the feels.

I have been anticipating the conclusion to The Wanderer Series and could not wait to see if Jason and Helle would finally get their HEA after being apart for thousands of years. I was also hoping that Woolf, even if he's done terrible things and wanted to destroy Jason and Helle's happiness, would have a change of heart and finally let go of all his hatred and anger. I personally have a weakness for the bad boy type... the complex, flawed, and perfect villainous character that you want to hate, but can't cause you see something beyond their cruelty. I definitely felt that way towards Sam Woolf and even though he's caused so much pain and suffering, he still deserves forgiveness and peace.

For the most part, I enjoyed reading this book and all the achingly wonderful emotions. The pacing did feel a bit slow for me in this novel, but I rather not say why since I don't want to spoil anything for you. But, even though that was the case, I was still quite enthralled for most of the time. I enjoyed Belfrage's beautiful storytelling, the vivid descriptions and details, the flashbacks, the lighthearted and fun parts, the sexy and steamy scenes, the danger and thrills, and all the sweetly romantic moments that made my heart melt. The plot had its highs and lows and I didn't feel quite as excited or on edge like the previous two books, but it was still enjoyable and entertaining. There's plenty of frienship and relationship drama, heartache and betrayal, and surprises and twists that made this an intriguing and fun read. I also felt my heart break so many times only to be pieced together again. Even though I have mixed feelings about the ending and didn't completely fall in love with everything about this book like I expected, I think Belfrage concluded her series quite well. I definitely wasn't disappointed... I was just hoping for something more and something different.

These impecfertly perfect characters reincarnated and tied together for thousands of years have affected me in so many ways. I love/dislike them all at one point or another and a part of my heart bleeds for each of them. Helle, Jason, and yes even Sam deserve happiness, love, and peace. The supporting characters are fantastic and played their roles quite well. Some of them definitely made me feel frustrated, annoyed, and incredibly angry that I felt like I wanted to yell at someone, but I do think that they made the story more interesting. I also just want to say that I asbolutely adore Korine and wanted to protect her precious soul... and if you read this book, you'll find out why. I loved reading about her and really enjoyed those parts of the book.

A Flame Through Eternity is a unique and beautifully written fantasy tale about destiny,  passion, revenge, betrayal, forgiveness and love. I really enjoyed reading all three books in this series and all the emotions I felt. Anna Belfrage's The Wanderer Series is an utterly fascinating, alluring, and heartwrenching romance that I'm sure will appeal to plenty of readers. If you're looking for a love story about reincarnation with suspense, action, drama, steam, twists and turns, and all the feels, then you have to add this on your TBR.

“It isn’t over yet. He’s not gone. He’s back. And this time he intends to win...”

After 3,000 years you would think that Samion, Prince of Kolchis, would give up. But there was darkness in his soul, a cruel evil. He wanted Helle. He wanted to own her, possess her, dominate her. He would beat her into submission if he had to. But in this life, he would be victorious, and he would get what he thinks he deserved.

Trapped in an endless cycle of reincarnation, Helle Morris knew only this, that her life meant nothing without Jason by her side. He was the first and only man she had ever or would ever love. But she could not shake off this terrible feeling that Sam Woolf (Samion) was still lurking in the shadows, waiting — waiting for her.

Jason Morris was under no illusion that Woolf was still alive, and he would come for Helle. It was just a matter of time. However, Jason was determined that he and Helle would have the life that had been so cruelly denied them until now, and he would do everything in his power to destroy Woolf once and for all.

From the protected comforts of Tor Cottage, that stands in the shadows of the mystical Glastonbury Tor, to a heartbreakingly life-changing confession in the place where it all began, A Flame Through Eternity: The Wanderer Series #3 by Anna Belfrage is the dramatic conclusion to a story that spans three turbulent millennia.

Knowing how Belfrage summons every emotion conceivable from her readers, I came prepared with a box of Kleenex. It was a wise decision! This book made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me grimace, it made me cry again, but it left me with a smile on my face and hope in my heart. What more could you ask for in a book?

I have waited with eager anticipation for the final chapter in what has been the utterly mesmerising story of Jason and Helle as they battled not only to stay alive but to stay together. This is a novel like no other. It is a story of ancient souls, and an unquenchable and undeniable love that would not be shaken and nor would it be denied. These characters, this setting, and this narrative are as enthralling as they are unforgettable.

Oh, this series! It captured my attention from Book #1 and did not let me go until that final heart-warming sentence. It is a story of violence, hate, bitter rivalry, fear, betrayal, regret, but above everything else, it is a story about love. And what a love story it is. Helle and Jason’s romance is the kind that makes a reader swoon, and I was desperate for them to have that happy ending, and for a terrible moment, I wondered if Belfrage was going to be incredibly cruel and not give it to them. The tension was almost unbearable because the antagonist was just so terrifying.

Woolf is a powerful and wicked man who corrupts everything he touches. He is the kind of villain that even hardened criminals would submit to. Woolf is a terrifying antagonist and one I really loathed. His power is so immense it seemed the only way Jason and Helle would be safe is if they died, but of course, their fight to be together would start again in the next life. If, they did not vanquish Woolf, now, they would never know peace. This compelling portrayal was played out with an elegant turn of phrase and a riveting narrative which made this book next to impossible to put down.

There is a cast of wonderful supporting characters in this book, but Nefirie the Wanderer who was Jason’s mother in his first life was a character that really drove the story in this book forward. There are a lot of terrible revelations which change the perception that I had of Nefirie at the beginning of the series. Nefirie is a very powerful old soul, but her reaction and her treatment of Helle meant that although at times I sympathised with her, I could not like her, try as I might. She is very manipulative, very possessive, and there were many similarities between Nefirie and Woolfe, which were very unsettling. I think Belfrage has depicted Nefirie with a great deal of skill and care. Belfrage gives us an understanding of why the characters act like they do and make the choices that they make as well, which was incredibly insightful and certainly helped to move the story forward.

I have to mention Korine. I simply adored Korine — who is Helle’s and Jason’s daughter from their first life. She is such a sweetheart, who has the gifts of both her father and her grandmother, but because of this, she knows things, and she sees things that she should be oblivious to. Her life is one of emotional torment, but also determination. Korine is determined that her parents will find peace with each other, and she will do everything in her power to help them. I thought Korine’s depiction was fabulous. I loved everything about her.

Lastly, I have to mention Helle and Jason. These two characters irrevocably stole my heart. The love that they share, the devotion and the desire to live a normal life together is irresistible. Belfrage certainly knows how to make characters that her readers can care about.

Belfrage is an author that keeps giving. I am never disappointed by her books, they just get better and better, and this series is another example of how much of a master, Belfrage is at her craft. Her attention to detail, her ability to conjure a scene with such animation and imagination is a real treat for any reader, and her lucid understanding of human nature makes her characters not only real in the telling, but relatable, especially with regards to Jason and Helle’s relationship — for most of this series they are living in fear, but there are also moments when they get annoyed with each other, as happens in any normal healthy relationship. I thought that made them really compelling and far more importantly, believable.

I cannot praise this series enough. It is in all ways a triumph, and it is one that I have enjoyed immensely.

If you are looking for your next great time-slip adventure, then stop searching for you have found it. The Wanderer Series is deserving of your time, and Belfrage is an author that demands your respect.

I Highly Recommended.

I have to admit, Anna is one of my favorite authors, no matter what she writes. I love everything she's done that I've read so far.

A Flame Through Eternity is book 3 in The Wanderer series. Also when it comes to Anna's series, this one and The Graham Saga, you want to read them in order. Sure you can read them as stand alone books but it makes everything more enjoyable if you read them in order. Truthfully, I wish I had the time and attention span to go back and reread the first two books in this series.

I love the premise of this series, with lovers reborn and an evil menace trying to make sure they don't get to stay together.

This is the closing novel to the paranormal erotic trilogy. Oh and yeah I said erotic. Oh YEAH! This book is spicy. So if you are a person that doesn't like smokin' hot sex in your books, this is a series to pass on. On a plus side this is normal hot spicy sex, not BDSM, which tends to become the focus of 99.9% of all erotic novels and that just leaves me felling meh about those books. This book was hot and erotic and it kept the pages turning. So yeah, there's a story to go with all the sex.

For me, I found the whole series to be amazing. Jason and Helle just sizzle and Woolf is delightfully evil.

When some series end, people describe the last book as the stunning conclusion. In this case that would be an apt description.

The ending was explosive! For reasons I can't tell you, because it would spoil things.

If you are looking for the suspenseful and smoking series. This is worth every last minute!

This is the third and final book in the Wanderer Series featuring the characters of Helle, Jason and Sam. They are not your ordinary types – in fact they have been chasing each other through time for almost 3,000 years since Helle fell in love with Jason instead of Sam. She was pledged to Sam as a young girl in a time long ago but her heart was stolen by the Wanderer, Jason. But Sam did not like being thwarted in his love so after he extracted his revenge in their time he has followed them from century to century through era after era as Jason tried to find Helle again so they could reunite. Now that it has finally happened Sam is determined to destroy them both.

This book brings the story forward to where Jason and Helle are living a relatively peaceful life but are still looking over their shoulders because they know that Sam will be coming for them. They know that he will not let them just live in peace. But this time they have an ally in Jason’s mother – or do they?

Ms. Belfrage has such a delightful writing style. I have read all of her books but one (I did not read A Rip in the Veil – the first in her Grahamn Saga) and not one of them disappointed me. She has a magical way of drawing you into her world so that you don’t want to leave – whether that world belongs to a time traveler to 17th century Scotland or a man of torn loyalties in 14th century England or this tale of a trio hurtling through time trying to find love.

The book is sexy, fast paced and populated with compelling characters. I’m sorry that this is the end of the series but am definitely looking forward to where Ms. Belfrage will take me next.

After the fantastic first two installments in The Wanderer series, Smoke in Her Eyes and A Torch in His Heart, introduced me to Jason and Helle--soulmates who've been reincarnating for a few thousand years after their first life and relationship ended prematurely and quite traumatically--I've been waiting to see if they could finally get their happily ever after. A life without the sadistic Sam trying to reclaim what had been promised to him in that ancient life--Helle--and he's been hell bent on destroying both Jason and Helle since he can't get what he believes to be his destiny.

After A Torch in His Heart ended with Sam presumed dead, Helle and Jason have been enjoying their married lives together: running Jason's technology investment firm together, enjoying downtime at his family's cottage in the country, and just enjoying being together. But the niggling question in the back of Helle's mind of whether or not Sam is really gone keeps popping up, especially when his body never surfaces from the ocean depths. And Jason knows it's only a matter of time before he returns because he always comes back.

In this third installment, the historical flashbacks feature Jason's healer mother, as well as Jason and Helle's gifted daughter Korine. As the story of what happened after Helle and Jason died unfolds, I couldn't help but get the uneasy feeling that present day Helle and Jason really needed to look out for themselves first and foremost. The past can indeed affect the future, and in A Flame Through Eternity, there are those in the past that can show up in your future to alter your path--both for the good and the bad--while some in the past can and will look out for you in the future.

When Sam does indeed pop back into Helle and Jason's lives, another reincarnated soul from their past makes an appearance as well: Jason's mother Nefirie. Now known as Katherine, Jason loses himself to getting to know her again, basically abandoning Helle like he did in the second book when his old flame Juliet was infirm. You'd think that both Jason and Helle would have learned from the mistakes they made with the Juliet deal, but the same situations abound again--with Jason ignoring his wife and Helle acting out in order to get his attention. This behavior of course leads her right into Wolf's dangerous hands.

I give A Flame Through Eternity a four out of five. This final installment is wrapped up pretty nicely for the most part, and I enjoyed the tumultuous, dangerous, sexy ride to the end. Jason and Helle are made for each other, but while Sam is trying to tear them apart, the path they take to secure their future together is treacherous and spans several countries. The pacing and flow where nice throughout, even in the slower parts the underlying tension of Sam laying in wait made for an interesting feel. I really loved how Anna Belfrage ended the trilogy where the characters really began all those years ago, and it ended in such beautiful way. Kudos, and the only thing that left me wanting is the question of what happened to daughter Korine when she disappeared into history.

A wonderful finale to The Wanderer Series.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Wander novels by Anna Belfrage. The stories are beautifully written, full of suspense and suffused with gorgeous imagery.

In A Flame Through Eternity, Jason and Helle’s fight against the brilliantly imagined villain, Sam Woolf, comes to a stunning and slightly unexpected conclusion. I found book three to be a satisfying ending to this trilogy of erotic paranormal thrillers.

A feature that I enjoyed throughout the series was the flashbacks to the past, painting an exotic picture of a land along the banks of the Bosporus as it was three thousand years ago. Returning the characters to where their story began (now modern Turkey) was a nice touch. The writing is evocative, and as with all of her books, Ms. Belfrage demonstrates her mastery of scene-setting.

There is quite a lot of sex in this book, so if you’re one of those people who’d rather read books where the adults don’t get much more intimate than holding hands and staring into each other’s eyes, this might not be for you. If you’re a person who enjoys reading romance where no facet of the development of the relationship between the hero and heroine is hidden or glossed over, read away.

As a whole, the Wander Series is an epic love story, portraying one of the most unusual of love triangles. A gripping tale of love, loss, and a long and difficult battle for the ever-elusive happy ending.

I give A Flame Through Eternity 4.5 stars.

Jump on for a wild ride with Belfrage who is a master of storytelling and description, whether of people, places or things. I loved her historical novels, but this is a change of pace. A Flame Through Eternity is an erotic thriller/paranormal with characters you’ll either love or hate. Get to know Helle, Jason, the villain Sam, and Jason’s mother, who have been reincarnated multiple times over thousands of years. Jason searched for Helle in all those lives, and he has finally found this love of his life in the 21st century. His mother has a pivotal role, but to say more would spoil the story. Sam, Helle’s husband in an arranged marriage in that past life, is pretty twisted and obsessed with Helle in the present. He is determined to get her back. When he is ‘on screen’ (or in Helle’s mind) it can be pretty frightening. Belfrage takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. The brief snippets of Helle and Jason’s ancient past provide a look at other cultures and I, for one, would love to see a whole novel in that world.

If you’re like me and haven’t read books 1 & 2, book 3 in Belfrage’s Wanderers series can easily be read on its own. The author does a great job of providing enough background to allow a reader to jump into the novel without being confused. This is a page turner with a gripping, and at times, heartwrenching, plot.

I was given an ARC (advanced review copy) for an honest review.

This series is perfect for all you fans of time travel and soulmates. I feel like the whole soulmate trend in books died a while ago, so I am happy to start seeing it again. I miss those stories on star crossed lovers destined to meet over and over and over again but never really seem to get that happy ending. Plus combining the fantasy elements with some intense romance is always a key factor in a great read.

I definitely recommend you read the other books in the series first. I walked into this book not having read them, and while I was able to follow the story and enjoy it I know that I would have had a completely different experience if I had read the others first. There were some parts of the story where it seemed to lull, but I am excited to see how this differs when I read all of the books in order.

Overall this story was wonderfully unique and it had a lot of elements that I’ve been missing from stories. This was definitely a wonderful ending and I look forward to reading more from Belfrage.

A Flame Through Eternity, the third in The Wanderer series, finds Helle and Jason enjoying a new life of freedom. Believing their “time traveling” companion (Sam Woolf) to finally be dead, the couple basks in the mundane activities of marital bliss.

But soon, Helle begins dreaming of Woolf, hearing his whispered voice in her mind, and feeling the all too familiar prickles of unease his presence has brought to her for hundreds of years. Danger and terror follow, but Jason and Helle are joined by some new characters who are eager to help end this ancient battle for good!

First, I love Belfrage’s writing style. Her story is fast paced with lots of excitement and tension. Second, I love the side characters of this story; there are old faces that have been here since the beginning, and some new characters that spice up the conflict. However, I find the hero and heroine, though likable, laughable at times. In the midst of the chaos that is reincarnated souls tumbling through hundreds of years together, these two often sound like bickering teenagers who are “desperately” in love but really know nothing about navigating adult situations.

Even still, I love their story and feel through these pages. Belfrage has crafted a very exciting and very addicting series.

A Flame Through Eternity is another awesome read in 'The Wanderer' series by Anna Belfrage. It was romantic and suspenseful until the very end. I have enjoyed reading about Helle, Jason, and even Sam.

In this book, Helle and Jason are living happily but also know that Sam is lurking somewhere. They can't continue to live like this so try to find a way to end this constant cycle of death and reincarnation.

Even in stressful moments, Jason and Helle live a life full of passion and love.

I give A Flame Through Eternity 4 stars. It's a suspenseful story that centers around the story of love. It was a pleasure to read this story and even those who haven't read any books in the series will appreciate this one.

I feel like I have the unpopular opinion of not liking Helle. She just seems like the worst and I've spent the better part of these three books hoping both Sam AND Jason dump her and become friends. Is that weird? That doesn't happen but man, what a plot twist that could have been! HA!

A lot of the things I didn't love and a lot of things I did love about the first two books continue into book three, so I can tell you this author is consistent and that is really refreshing. You could read all three books back to back and feel no change in the story, the way it is laid out, etc.

If you're a fan of romantic suspense and don't mind a paranormal element thrown in, this one is worth checking out.

This is the third and final book in this trilogy. Fans of fantasy will enjoy these books. I instantly was Their story was one that spanned many time periods. Yet, the love that Jason and Helle shared was "true love". No matter how many bodies that Sam was resurrected in; he could not separate Jason and Helle forever.

It was nice getting to know Jason's mother. As I have grown close to Jason and Helle, I liked getting to see what type of family Jason was raised in. Although, Jason is up to his old habits when he abandons
Helle for getting to know his mom again. Sam tries to make his move.

This book has a little bit of everything for all readers...romance, fantasy, adventure, intrigue, and a really good storyline with engaging characters.

Please note the this is the third book in the series and you DO have to read the first two to really understand what's going on in this one.

So in this final book of the series, we are thrown back into the romantic struggle between a woman and two powerful men, one ready to destroy everything the couple has that he never had and the other who will protect her from that power.

This is definitely a suspense-filled romance that  balances over thousands of years and the growth that all the characters have faced over that period. It's a book that encompasses more than just a short-lived chemistry, but instead shows just how powerful lust can be.

There are tons of obstacles, twists, turns, and just everything that can be thrown at a timeless couple. It will tug  at your heart and definitely brings out a lot of emotions through the writing.

A 3 out of 5 star book for me.
