I received an ARC of this SAT vocabulary workbook from Callisto Press in exchange for a review. It is an excellent study guide as improving your vocabulary has been shown to significantly improve SAT scores. I would recommend it for any high school that will be taking a standardized entrance exam.

I was given an opportunity via the publisher to read Seberson Method New SAT® Vocabulary Workbook: Over 700 High-Frequency Words to Master. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

The author has a unique perspective on the English language, given that she is both dyslexic and is not a native English speaker. Using her experience as an SAT tutor, Katya has come up with a system of using various methods to help individuals understand the meaning of certain words. Because the new SAT demands that test takers be able to demonstrate an understanding of language in both the essay and the verbal parts, the author has concentrated her efforts on those portions.

The book is divided into different sections, starting with an introduction with information for parents, students, and teachers. The sections themselves include:

Words from Fiction and History Passages
Words from Social and Natural Science Passages
Vocabulary in Context: Secondary Meanings
Commonly Confused Words
Transition Words and Idioms

Words are logically grouped together and each lesson has a sample question that students can answer. The only drawback to this book is that there are not any practice tests for students located within its pages. There is a link directing readers to a website with bonus activities, but there are not enough practice in the book itself. On the positive side, the author does a good job of explaining the high frequency words that students might encounter during the SAT test. Whether readers are teacher, students, or parents just wanting to increase their own knowledge, the Seberson Method is a good way of exploring language and gaining some valuable insight.

Received from Callisto Publishers Club in exchange for an honest review.
Okay, story time. I’m a freshman in high school but I’m graduating early. That means I’ll take the SAT as a Junior instead of a Senior. I’m hanging on to this for when I do take it!
The Seberson Method is both easy to understand and in depth. The SAT is one of the most important tests high schoolers take, (or at least it’s made out to be that way).
This is an excellent study resource with plenty of material.

Thank you Callisto Publisher's Club and Rockridge Press for this free book! The following review contains my honest opinions.
I like the organization of this workbook. Katya Seberson starts with a vocabulary term, then provides several alternative terms with similar definitions, also listing examples of usage for these terms, followed by sample exam questions. The book is divided into several sections: the first two sections address terms found in different types of reading passages, the third section addresses context clues for vocabulary words with secondary meanings, section four contains commonly confused words, and part five is for transition words and idioms. Not only is this a good workbook for preparing a student to take the SAT exam, I feel this book also makes a good reference tool.
I do like the choice of words presented and the organization of the information, however I am unable to comment on the actual effectiveness of this workbook in relation to taking the SAT Exam.

I have a 17 year old son, so as you can imagine SATs is a topic of concern around my home. This book was brilliant in the manner in which it focuses on real questions from past SAT tests. First, the words are defined and often given a small clue to help the reader remember -- benevolent elephant was cute and how to know when to use lay/lie will help me. As the lessons advance through the book; the examples become more difficult and the author used many of the words from previous lessons to help build the vocabulary. Now, that I have had a chance to be reminded of my own SAT experiences; I am very appreciative that my son can use this book to prepare.

I received this book in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

This is a cool method that helps you master over 700 vocabulary words. Each lesson has a particular theme and includes an activity (test) to help with retention.

Because I'm not studying for SATs, I use this as a Thesaurus of sorts, and for determining a word's contextual meanings.

A workbook for some, but a fun book for me.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher.

I received a complimentary copy.

I was so interested in the new word choices for the SAT and how easily they were grouped. The workbook has great little questions to help you understand more and I found it to be extremely fun but I do love words and usage. It will be a really nice study guide and reference for anyone who is needing it.

This book is great for high schoolers who need a boost in their vocabularies. My kids are home schooled so they did exercises daily and they were clear and easy and helpful.
