The McKinley Massacre

Rate this book
This is the third novel in a brand new Western series from Western adventure bestseller Scott Harris! With gun in hand—Caz blasts his way through the bad guys to bring peace and justice to the Old West!

Caz lives life by the rules, but they’re all his rules. Rule #4 is; Never let a man steal your water. Not from your canteen or your creek. Unfortunately for McKinley, he tried to.

Caz is the self-appointed judge and jury, operating outside the law, tracking down those who the law can’t, or won’t, find. And when he does find them, which he always does, there is only one sentence.

Award-winning and best-selling Western author Scott Harris is a lifelong Western enthusiast who traces his love of Western fiction back to his childhood days of reading Louis L’Amour novels.

Harris has published ten novels in the past year, along with two collections of short stories and a variety of other fiction and nonfiction Westerns.

The Brock Clemons Western Series follows the tale of Brock Clemons and his journey into the West accompanied by his horse, “Horse,” and wolf, “Wolf.” The Brock Clemons story — especially when he is joined by his new wife, Sophie and his adopted son, Huck — is one of bravery, adventure and romance, transporting readers back to a time when chivalry, courage and gunfights ruled the day in the West.

Harris’ second series, Caz: Vigilante Hunter, is a different take on the Western genre. With gun in hand, Caz blasts his way through the bad guys to bring peace and justice to the Old West!

Caz is looking for two things: the perfect breakfast and men who think they’re above the law. He hasn’t yet found a breakfast to match what his mom used to make, but there’s a trail of dead men behind him that shows he’s having no trouble finding bad men.

Harris also authors the well regarded 52 Weeks Series, the Western Adventure Series and the 500 Word Micro Short Series. Additionally, he is about to release A Novel Journey, a non-fiction book about writing your own Western novel and recently released Six Gun Pardners, a book a he co-authored with his son, Justin. He is also soon releasing the first novel in his newest series, Stagecoach Willy.

Harris, who loves nothing more (except for his family!) than settling into his hammock with a glass of bourbon, a cigar and a great Western, has created a Western world filled with fascinating and exciting characters and he hopes you enjoy reading about them as much as he does writing about them.

Enjoy!

Caz is looking for some comfort from the bitterly cold snowy weather. That goes for his horse also, because every good horsemen in the West knows that if you don't take care of your ride, it's the difference between life or death..So take care of your responsibilities. Well anyway, he smells wood smoke and thinks to himself possibly it's from some cowboy camped out for the night or a ranch house. What a mess he came upon, a still smoldering cabin and when he rode around the smoky remains, he saw the charred body. No need to wonder what happened, since this is a frequent situation of cabins burning and dead bodies sprinkled throughout the yard. Very sad situations. So our friend Caz and his horse continued their ride and he sees a cabin, which looks like a line cabin that ranchers build for their ranch hands when they are out checking on the cattle herds. Those cabins are stocked with canned foods, cooking/heating stove. The only requirement is that they replace any firewood they use..not bad. Caz stops in front yard calls out to the cabin, and he's and answered, it's okay to come in..and goodness graces he sees a man sitting at a table and a woman cooking food. Something was wrong per Caz he felt it in the air.
This man probably a drifter, had beaten and probably abused the poor woman, because she had a distant stare, you know someone whose been violated both mentally and physically. It leaves a person almost disabled. Caz observed and knew who this woman was, and where she came from, the burned down ranch.
Caz shoots the man between his eyes takes the lady to the next town and reports to the Sheriff what happened.
Another bully shows his ugliness by murdering ranch owners for their land and water rights. It's the old story of who owns the water controls the town and surrounding farms and ranches. A very ugly but typically used tactic to buy out all the farms confiscate their cattle, rebrand them, sell the cattle and keep the profits. This system that Caz gets involved with reflects the English Feudal system, where the farmers in addition to giving this bully ranch owner cattle plus pay him money for staying on their own farms and ranches.
What does Caz do, but takes this bully and his hired gunmen with the help of four men, two brothers, and Sharon Walker, whose uncle was murdered by the bully. Caz figured out a plan, it worked, the author said that Sharon has a new life and she's not going back to Nebraska!!So I 'm thinking maybe the author is setting up a "Caz's" meets his son or daughter maybe twins, because it seems those pioneer women always had a set of twins at the dinner table. Well, whatever happens out man Caz is on his way to another situation or not, but whatever he faces he'll do it with his 1851 Colt Navy pistols and keep it moving..right!
So Caz ride with the wind and the sun at your back, and a cigar in your mouth, watching always watching!!!

Definitely a man's story with ongoing gunfights and a lot of romancing. I have been impressed with this series and definitely hope there will be more of Can releases in the not too distant future. The gunfights are outstanding stories of what western adventures should contain, and there is enough suspenseful episodes to steadily maintain your interest forever. Can is a man of few words and a big boatload of never ending action!

I definitely find all these novels to be five star novels, but this masterpiece reaches out for more. Mr. Scott Harris certainly runs with the "big dogs" after compiling this outstanding western adventures. I am definitely hooked on his reputation as a real western folklore writer, and will most certainly follow his other creative stories from now on!
If you are looking for blood and guts, then jump aboard this series of outstanding old American western folklore, as each episode supersedes the previous storyline. The characters stand alone, but when the good guys stand together, the bad guys have a definite tendency to fall. Too, there are some heartwarming episodes throughout these stories that will definitely create excitement in that direction. I finished the last two novels in just a few hours but I am contemplating rereading the again, probably tomorrow. Great job by another outstanding author.
I, without any hesitation, recommend this book, as well as the entire series, to readers who love excitement and heartwarming entertainment from beginning to end. Failure to read these books will definitely be your loss. Do yourselves a favor and jump aboard the "Caz train, and stay aboard until the last story of the last book is read.

Great series of books

I discovered Scott Harris with his Brock Clemons series and and he quickly became one of my favorite writers and now he's done it again with Caz. Can is the complete opposite of Brock but both have the same sense of justice my recommendation is by all 3 of the Caz series they are well worth it

Caz is great to solve all ranchers’ problems.

Great story but not so keen on the ending. Glad there is someone that helps justice reign. Wandering Caz but no settling down.
