King Yayati had stopped only to quench his thirst, but the forest well presented him with a beautiful bride! All he had to do now was treat her well, but womanly wiles worked their spell to destroy his happiness. It took a thousand years of indulgence to make him see the path to true contentment and it did not lie through worldly pleasures.
Reliving childhood through Amar Chitra Katha , the eagerly anticipated childhood comics. As an adult I don't like the person Yayati is... So selfish as to exchange youth with his son. I thought parents try their best to protect their children from hardship , but mythology often proved me wrong.
I heard the name Yayati somewhere the other day, and it reminded me of this fascinating story I read as a kid. So I picked up this one yesterday. Won't say that it ages extremely well today, but it was quite interesting to read from an adult POV.
I really liked this book as it showed the life history of the first ruler of the valiant Kuru dynasty, which stretched on for many thousands of years after that. It was bad to see that Sharmishta took Devyani's garment and pushed her into a well instead of returning her garment. It was quite funny to see that Yayati turned into an old man and exchanged the youth with his son. Overall, this book was great as it contained all the major details of the first ruler of the Kuru dynasty.
This is the second story I've read with Devayani as the lead character, Kacha & Devayani being the other. Not sure if this is the sequel or prequel of the other story :p
Boy oh boy! King Yayati made really questionable decisions. As if marrying Sharmishtha without Devyani's consent was not bad enough, he kept it as a secret for years. Exchanging his old-age for youth was yet another selfish choice. As much as I dislike Devyani, she is the true victim in the story.
It was an okayish story . Not a bad story. I liked it but not that much. It was really good trying the new guided mode feature. I was able to read the comic very fast and easy
