Finding a body washed ashore in Whitefall Cove was not how I wanted to start my day.
I much preferred to face the morning with a hot strong caffeinated beverage, but alas, we can't always have what we want. Out on a morning stroll with my familiar, Archie, I couldn't believe my bad luck when we stumbled upon the body of local teenager Emily Sherman washed up on the beach.
Unable to resist the lure of solving the mystery, I immediately set about finding her killer, but untangling a growing list of suspects isn't as easy as I'd initially thought. With an election looming and Councilor Griffin's nephew caught up in the net, the pressure is on to find out whodunnit and close the case.
Let's not mention working side by side with newly single detective Jackson Ward. Murder, mischief, and mayhem I can take in my stride, but a date with Jackson? That's enough to have my magic sparking in nervous anticipation.
This paranormal murder mystery will have you completely spellbound and laughing out loud!
This is the fourth book in a series of cozy mysteries. Unlike some series that are losing ground by the fourth book, this one is actually getting better. Gran's hijinks were just a little bit more amusing. We're getting a little bit more in touch with the town...an engaging town is a very important aspect (for me) in this type of book. The story is getting around the typical cozy problem (for me) of: Why does our heroine feel she MUST solve the mystery herself; particularly, when there is a perfectly competent detective working the case. In this case, the author has been pretty blatant about the fact that the ladies are pursuing the murderer because they can't leave a puzzle alone. Easier, too, the fact that the local detective simply accepts what they are doing and nobody gets hostile over the civilians sticking their noses into police business. A nice story. Looking forward to book five being even better.
The hysterics of this group is at new levels. This is the fourth book in the series, and they just keep getting better. Harper returns home and has to face a single Jackson. But first, she has to solve another murder. There is a lot of action and a board full of suspects. I have to say, I was almost to the end before I figured out who the killer was. I'm usually better than that. So props to Ms. Hinchey for keeping me guessing. In my defense, they all had a motive. Gran will have you in stitches. Ahh, the romance we have all been waiting for. But you will get no spoilers from me. A great mystery with a paranormal twist. The characters are fun and the writing smooth. I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy and this my voluntary review.
Harper and friends are back home, and before you know it, she's right in the middle of another murder mystery. This time a teenager is killed. Is it one of their fellow teens (all practicing for a talent contest led by Harper's grandmother), or is it someone else in the town. Of course Harper springs into action.
In this entry, things have progressed a bit between Harper and Jackson, and Blake never makes an appearance on page (although we're still left wondering just what's up with him).
I continue to enjoy the series, although this one didn't hold my attention quite as much as some of the others.
I have been reading Jane Hinchey since First Blade, and she has me hooked! Now, she's writing cozy mysteries, and I'm hooked on those as well. I don't have magic in my fingertips (although I wish I did), the heroine of the cozy mysteries is totally relatable to me. She has a knack for finding her way into mysteries much to the chagrin of certain characters, but it does help get her in close quarters with the hot detective, Jackson. In this part of the series, Harper is dealing with the high school students of her town after a female student washes ashore. I was left guessing as to who it could be until the very end!
oh dear can Harper stay clear of death I’m beginning to think not. She seems to be a magnet for it. In this book the murder club comes back together to solve the murder of a teenage girl whose been hiding more than one secret. And this time the murderer is someone I didn’t really see coming I thought I had it worked out but alas I was wrong. Jenna has done some sleuthing and has unraveled some interesting things that she thinks maybe related to the case but it turns out they aren’t. I’m loving Ms Hinchey’s cozy murder mysteries. With Harper and Gran and of course a great cast of characters what isn’t there to love. PS there may also be advances on a relationship.
Another great who-done-it in the Witch Way series. Harper is back from Down Under and is feeling good about her new digs, but bad about her lack of a boyfriend. Blake abandoned her in Australia without a word and Jackson broke up with Liliana while she was gone but has made no move to ask her out. Men. Who needs them? When Archie and Harper find a body on the beach she finally has something to sink her teeth into - another murder to solve. It doesn't hurt that Jackson is also involved in the case...
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
As part of Jane Hinchey's ARC, I was lucky enough to get a chance to read and review this book. As always, Ms. Hinckley has written another terrific book. The characters continue to grow and keep the reader looking forward to the next book. The unexpected romance, the antics of grandma, and the overall mystery make this a must read! If you haven't started this series, do yourself a favor and do so. You won't regret it.
I have read 2 books in this series and I like the writing style of this author. The cast of this book evolve and grow like real people and the story moves nicely. I did guess wrongly about who did it so it had a nice twist. I would recommend this series of books
I really like this storyline. The characters are well developed and interesting and the plot moves at a good pace. There are multiple twists so the murderer was a surprise. I look forward to more adventures with Harper.
I enjoyed reading this book, it is entertaining, filled with action and intrigue, the interaction and chemistry between the characters is wonderful. I can't wait for the next book. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
Such a good book ! This is the second book in this serie that I've read and it's really good. I like the way the story is going, it's funny, it's mysterious and I was very surprise by who had done it! All the characters are blending well and everything makes sense. I'm ready for the next one!
Another good story by Ms. Hinchey! I think this one is better than the last and funnier. I love the characters. They are such a hoot. The mystery was really good and kept me guessing until the end. Really good series. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A great read. Never guessed the killer until it was revealed. Love the characters! Highly recommend this book. I received an AC of this book in exchange for a fair review.
Witch Way To Beauty And The Beach : (BOOK # 4 : A Witch Way Paranormal Cosy Mystery) : Jane Hinchey.
Adelaide Author Extraordinare, Jane Hinchey Does It Again & Again & Again & Again, Well You Get The Picture!
Cosy Mystery, Harper Jones, Gran, Jenna, Monica, Detective Jackson Ward, Archie the Cat, Jordan, Hannah Burton, Sarah McClain, Emily Sherman, Jacob Griffin, Ethan, Ryan, Daniel Griffin, The Bureau of Occult Research & Defence, Police Officer Lilliana Miles, Whitney, Ghost, Vampire, Necromancer, Fae, Were Fox, Whitefall Cove, Dusty Attic, Bean Me Up, Brewed Awakening & Wrap It Up In The Pages of Murder, Mystery, Magic, Mayhem & Madness. What More Could You Want Of A Book?
In a World of Out and Proud Magic User's & Supernatural's of All Types & Species, We Find This Book Taking Off With Gran Leading Her Teenage Dream Students In A Dance Rehearsal For The Annual Whitefall Cove Talent Quest!
I've Gotta say, I've grown to love the Harper Jones books (even though I've only read books 3 & 4), I can't wait for book 5, but in the meantime, I have the BoxSet Books 1-3 to catch up on so it'll be no trouble waiting!
You could get away reading these as individual titles, but you'd miss out on back storylines & characters appearances or mentions of this person, place or thing, that you just can't fully comprehend. So Do yourself a Favour, don't Rush Out to Buy the Book, buy the Whole Damn Series!!!
Out of Book 3 & 4, I much preferred book 3, "Witch Way Down Under", but I'm an Aussie & it was set on my home turf of South Australia (which is like a rare Gem) & I absolutely loved reading & hearing the Aussie slang & colloquialisims, we don't normally hear / read in books that are usually set in the US or Europe or if in Oz, then its its normally one of the biggest States or Tourist Destination like Sydney, Melbourne or The Gold Coast. In saying that though, by no means does it mean I didn't love this adventure, because I throughly enjoyed it, so much so I devoured it in just 2 lazy afternoons lounging about outdoors in the winter sun!
A Jane Hinchey Supernatural Cosy is a great enjoyable quick read. Its like a pallet cleanser, but for the mind, especially great after a heavy duty series binge or epic novel.
You could get away reading these as individual books, but you'd miss out on important back Storylines & Characters (who are mentioned, but don't make an appearance as such or mentions of places, person's or thing's that you just can't quite fully comprehend. So while it's possible, I would recommend starting at book 1 "Witch Way to Murder & Mayhem"!
I Absoluetely Loved the small touches of humour throughout this book, it truly shows aspects of the author's terrific real life sense of humor! Jane You Crack Me Up Girl, and are one of the most extremely hilarious & funny women I know!
One of my favourite scenes is of course by none other than the FABULOUS GRAN, & her good old fart gag's, but it's not because of the smell or anyone gagging! And fart jokes never truly die, they just turn to GOLD, especially when it comes out the trunk of an elderly Grandmother's boot as a toot, which magically turns into gold pixie dust! This woman is such a Hoot, I dare you not to laugh, giggle or even snort!!!
Ms Hinchey has a wonderful ability to write real life characters, but usually with that extra special touch (not just the supernatural/ Paranormal abilities). They have with real world problems just like you & me & are just like our real life mates. Some are nice, some are flawed, but make you feel something. Some you care for & others not at all. She can write great characters, both main & secondary of The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Variety and some, way more likeable / lovable, than others. Like the remarkable fun loving Gran & the sleek, sneaky, snarky, nosy puddy tat Archie, who both steal the limelight & show (and I'm no a cat lady, so if I was witch, [well some say I am, but that's another story], I'd be in real trouble, as I'm a dog person)! Then there are others, the one's who you dislike or love to hate, but all evoke some sort of emotion in you just like real life people!
The storyline kept me guessing till the very end & although I did pick a murder suspect early on in chapter 10. I was close in certain aspects, but no cigar! And since the character (I thought was Murderer is only mentioned once or twice, at the start - middle), I quickly knew I was wrong, but love it wasn't so obvious & that I had it wrong for a change! Many cosy's are just too predictable. I love that Ms Hinchey's aren't, its an added bonus h& just part of the reason I love her books!
A Supernatural Cosy Requires a Few Critical ingredients to be successful besides great characters & storylines. Firstly there must be a tonne of Mystery, Murder, Mayhem, Madness & Magic!!!!! Check, check, check, check & unfortunately only 1/2 a check on the Magic.
So if a supernatural cosy about witches must include the major components of Magic, Witchcraft & Wizardry & contains multiple Supernatural Races too, then there must be a tonne of different species mentioned (check) & elements of their supernatural abilities (a non check 4 me) in the storyline, or otherwise it may as well just be any old mystery cosy. And this is where I think this book lacks in its storyline. So what could have been a 5⭐ Book, now becomes a 4⭐Book!
I counted 11-12 magical events, spells or occurrences, but none of which were major, time consuming, or complex. All being minor spells said in a word or 2 or flicks of a wand or snap of the fingers. So technically I could pass the magical content / element, however, honestly it wasn't enough in quality for me!
Reading the reviews for this book on multiple sites a suggestion was put forward, "Was it possible this book was rushed by the author? Well, yes of course that could be a factor, but, We the readers / fans place a tonne of pressure on authors today, demanding to know when the next book in the series is available. This can be a big problem for the author, but as someone who has read most of Ms Hincey's books & owns them (most paid for by myself), I don't believe this book was rushed) or if it was, I don't think it shows in Jane's writing here!
Personally, I'd rather an author's take their time to create the best possible book / story, than to have it a couple of weeks or month sooner, with slightly less quality or content. I've always been the type that prefers quality over quantity!
⭐My Favourite Parts of Jane Hinchey's Writing & Why I'm So Taken With It⭐
What a great idea to bring together such an eclectic group of characters for a Murder Club rather than a Book Club @ the Dusty Attic. Each team member brings to the murder board their individual skills from their daily jobs / careers as well & their supernatural abilities ranging from witches / big reader & book store owner & part-time amateur sleuth, vampires / bar tender ghost, Necromancer / Detective, Human / Reporter, Student & School friend in the know & of course there's Archie's incredible sixth sense & Gran & her mischievous plans (we certainly know where her Grand daughter gets it from)! All combine to become an awesome group of sleuths ready 2 solve any mystery rather just than leaving up to the professionals of the Whitefall Cove Police Force, but with an inside source in the WCPD & all the perks that go with it, how could they not get their wanted Man or Woman in the end?
One other aspect I adore with Ms Hinchey's writing is her ability to write a love / sex scene. Although in this book, there are no sex scenes, they are always perfectly & tastefully written, never consisting of crude words or names of body parts that many people find disrespectful & when sear words are used its never vulgar with the language used in context. For this Jane I not only praise you, but greatly thank you & your sex scenes have improved in leaps & bounds since your debut book! There's nothing worse than hearing about some man's great big throbbing cock that is so larger and pulsating with last that can barely fit in a woman of slim build tiny tight vagina! Come get real, how many of us truly speak like this in the throws of lust or lovemaking. Don't get me wrong I'm no prude and I love a great sex scene as much as the next person, but it can be done with class & dignity & Ms Hinchey has it in spades as do all my favourite All-Time Favourite Author's, and YES Jane Hinchey is Australia's best & for me my favourite All-Time Favourite Adelaidian Author. And speaking of an Adelaidan author, I love that Jane is bringing in aspects of our home state and our local breweries & Wineries into her books even though they mostly set in the US.
Just Love, Love Loved reading of our little local Adelaide Hills Beer making an appearance in this book! Gotta Love our "Adelaidy" Author Extraordinare publicising our little know local classic brews such as "The Grumpy Brewhaus Adelaide Hills Pale Ale" in her World renouned International Book Series. After all, Adelaide does have some of the finest Wineries / Breweries in the world @ our door step in the Barrossa Valley and Adelaide Hills!
And another masterstroke of writing is the scene when : Jenna scared out of her wits @ the local newspaper office is confronted by a black balaclava wearing bandit, who's broken into her place of work. Jenna not knowing who or what this masked man is searching for decides to hide out under the Obituaries writer's desk! Seriously after all, who would be hunting down the obit's writer & why? What a genuine imaginative initiative & brilliant plan, for if the criminal is looking for Jenna, her own desk is the 1st place he'd search & the Obituaries section would be the last place you'd think to look unless you're checking under every single desk!. Cudo's, Jane that's one terrific strategy!
Personally I've had many incident with people who have passed, some pretty terrifying too, so reading the scene where Whitney (the Ghost) unintentionally scares the living daylights out of Harper had the little hairs standing on the back of my neck! This scene is written to perfection & I appreciate the way your mind works! Whether it was fully researched from the many local or international legends or completely comes from your imagination, once again I have to give you props 4 it! Jane your a Bloody Genius Girl!
Gran... Well what more can you say about Gran? A woman who stands her ground, takes mo s@#t from anyone & is a totally unique soul. I wonder if she's modelled after a friend or family member from Jane's own life? If not, she's one hell of an incredibly loveable Character to come from one's own imagination. Almost every scene involving Gran has me laughing, if not smiling!!! Honestly, This old duck, Gran / Mrs B, whatever you want to call her, has just become one of my All-Time favourite Characters, she cracks me up!
And last, but not least least, the names of the stores in this surf side tourist attraction of a town are remarkable. From the Dusty Attic to Bean Me Up to the Brewed Awakening, And I can't wait to find out much more about this quant little seaside residence and its inhabitants.
I Rate Witch Way To Beauty And The Beach 4.2⭐ Out of 5⭐.
I Recieved this ebook as An ARC COPY From The Author, but that in no way will sway my thoughts on this book. This is my fair, honest & impartial review of my own volition of Witch Way to Beauty and the Beach by Jane Hinchey.

Great series! This book had a lot of people involved in the murder plot and additional other connected situations. Well written and held my interest.
Amazon synopsis: finding a body washed ashore in Whitefall Cove was not how I wanted to start my day.
I much preferred to face the morning with a hot strong caffeinated beverage, but alas, we can’t always have what we want. Out on a morning stroll with my familiar, Archie, I couldn’t believe my bad luck when we stumbled upon the body of local teenager Emily Sherman washed up on the beach.
Unable to resist the lure of solving the mystery, I immediately set about finding her killer, but untangling a growing list of suspects isn’t as easy as I’d initially thought. With an election looming and Councilor Griffin’s nephew caught up in the net, the pressure is on to find out whodunnit and close the case.
Let’s not mention working side by side with newly single detective Jackson Ward. Murder, mischief, and mayhem I can take in my stride, but a date with Jackson? That’s enough to have my magic sparking in nervous anticipation.
While overall I more or less enjoyable this book but it still had issues.
**SPOILERS**
1) Jackson shared his I got shot story with different details & a different partner name back in book 1 with Harper. Then the story was like a paragraph & a half & this time like 2 pages. Why rewrite it? Nonsense.
2) for some reason in this book Harper seemed to be dumbed down, not quite TSTL dumb but close once
3) now that Jackson & Harper are together it's please stop investigating Harper my heart can't take it (even though keep in mind that his ex is a current Officer 🙄) from before when he was okay with it? Again nonsense.
4) IDK I guess parts of this book just felt like 2 different authors wrote it at times.
5) also the ending, in my opinion, was twistier than necessary.
6) last one I promise: in book 2, I think, we learn that Archie the cat can speak with Gran but not Harper because her magic is suspended. Now that Harper clearly has her magic back, I was hoping to get some dialogue between the 2 of them. Bummer.
Gran being Gran really manages to have a toe in trouble all the time. She gets involved with a collection of mixed blood witches and helps them prepare as a dance troupe for a summer talent competition.
Mayhem ranges from a messy marshmallow goo on the floor, to some very grown up issues. A few adult aged folks are bad acting in many ways, not limited to trouble with the young adults.
New info surfaces about short term beau Blake, and it is not all that flattering, for more than one party.
Trouble and danger lurk in their little town- yes! Great reading!
This series is a winner! Harper is a delightful lead; her friends, Monica and Jenna, are great sidekicks that I'd like to know better. Gran is the perfect dose of comic relief, and Jackson brings the sizzle! Magic is a casual and consistent part of this world, as it should be, and the way the Whitney situation is addressed is logical and imaginative. I certainly appreciated the adroit presentation of the mystery; it is multi-layered, with several facets and players that have impact on the murder. Thank you, Ms. Hinchey!
I've been quite vocal about how much I love Gran and she's a big part of this one so I was quite happy. Things are also changing for Harper. She is growing in so many ways - one of which is her sleuthing skills. I love that the series hasn't stayed static as far as her love interest or her skill level, but that she always has those close to her to support her. This is a binge worthy series and I can't wait for the next one.
The darker and more intense the books in my reading pile are the more I like to unwind with a book like this. I am enjoying this series and it is perfect as a bedtime read. These are the definition of beach blanket reads. In my case, here in the dead of winter they are more like under the flannel comforter reads but you know what I mean. Fun stories with cute characters (and a cat) - perfect escapism reading!
I’m really enjoying this series! Poor Harper finds another dead body and then has to deal with witchy teenagers. Yikes! Gran is, of course, in her element. I can picture her so clearly in my mind and you just have to laugh. I really thought I had figured out the murderer this time. Oh well, I’ll try again with the next book.
Another fun & easy to read adventure. A teenager is found dead on the beach by none other than Harper. Of course, she's investigating. Much to the dismay of a recently single detective by the name of Jackson Ward... A laugh out loud mystery, highly recommended. This is book 4 in Jane Hinchey's Witch Way series. Now onto book 5...
I live this series. It is so much fun to read and has a little of everything in each book. You never know what is going to happen next in Harper's life. The Murder Mystery Club was a great idea. Plus, Whitney haunting the book store where she died when only Harper and Jackson are together in the store. Keep the stories coming!!
I love these mysteries. They have a story a little romance. It puts the mystery first. I love the fact her familiar gets to help also. So if your looking for a mystery this are it also save yourself some money and get the 6 story compilation together because once you start the first story you will have to read the next one.
Jane kept me guessing as to the real culprit for this murder. It was one of the two people I suspected but another good and funny read. I am glad Harper and Jackson are finally dating.
Great read, an enjoyable cozy mystery. You have to love Gran and her unconventional dressing style. Sparkling ugg boots anyone? These books just draw you in, then wanting more. Thanks Jane Hinchey,,please keep writing.
I think we all need a character like Gran in our life. And I’m still waiting for Archie to talk and scare the crap out of Harper. Blake Tennent is not done with Harper yet. Jackson may get some competition.
