Awesome feels, a bit more kink than sex... Which somehow totally works!
If you had told me I would love a book with mostly kink, a few BJs and practically no penetration I would probably have skipped it. The reason it totally worked for me was the connection between the two MCs. The development of their emotional connection was so subtle and so well done that it was almost a shock when the matter of fact yet incredibly intense "I love you" happened. Wonderfully well-written such that the words flowed swiftly and smoothly! All in all a definitive WOW!!!!

I’m very stressed because of university at the moment and i’m pretty sure that a sweet christmas themed story about two stepbrothers who engage in a lot of spanking was the exact thing I needed at the moment. I had so much reading this book and I really appreciated the time I spent reading it.
Brief summary
Rex is spending Christmas at his family’s home with his stepbrother Brad. Rex is jealous of Brad and thinks he wants to be him because he has everything Rex wants … but turns out Rex doesn’t actually want to be Brad, he just wants to date Brad. They learn that the other is into spanking and then they start doing it together and they fall in love.
First of all this was really fucking hot and I loved how many spanking scenes there was (kissing, spanking, blowjobs and lots of licking is mostly all they ever do but it didn’t bother me here as those scenes were really hot and they worked really well in the story).
Second, I really loved how they were friendly first and how this story portrayed it as a little awkward from them to switch from stepbrothers to lovers and how they didn’t really know how to do it and stumbled a couple of times before they made it work, it felt super realistic and was just so sweet. Also their banter was so good, I really loved it.
Third, this was the exact kind of insta love and fluff i’m looking for in a Christmas story. I don’t want any angst in my christmas stories, just a boat load of fluff and swoony moments and this book delivered.
I had such a good time reading it and it was the exact book I wanted at the moment I read it.

This book has everything I love in Misha Horne's stories. It's emotional, it's horny, it's funny. A little low on angst but that's probably becuase of novella lenght. I would give it 5 stars if it was longer but it was still very enjoyable, quick read.

I liked this until I didn’t but I think it’s a me thing and not the book. It’s actually an author thing more than anything. This author writes about bratty boys who need to be spanked and I like kink so that’s not the problem. The problem is all of her books read the same to me. It feels like the same story over and over and over again just with different character names and while I like the sex scenes at first, they become repetitive as time goes on too. So with that in mind…
This is Brad and Rex’s story. Can we please get some better names? Their parents got married and they are stepbrothers but they don’t really spend anytime together and both of them have assumed things about the other that puts them at odds. Brad comes home from college for Christmas break and Rex is living at the house now after his college plans fell through. They reluctantly spend time together and in a matter of days fall in love after realizing their kink lines up. From Rex’s POV we know he’s never cared for Brad so I found it ridiculous that knowing he likes to be spanked changed their dynamic that much. 🤣 Then some Christmas magic happens that made me roll my eyes 🙄 I can do a bit of the magic hence ‘Vampire Claus’ 🤣 but this was just too cheesy for me as most Christmas books are.
So why did I read this? Well this book used to be called ‘Naughty AF’ and was on my TBR for ages and when I found out the title changed and it fit my reading challenge, I went with it. I think most people will enjoy this book but I found it just wasn’t for me. & while I found the spatula snowflakes ❄️ hot, the Christmas Tree branches sounded a bit too ouch. 😂

This was a fun book, but I took off a star because they never had sex. It was sexy and they did all the preliminary stuff, but I want real sex. I’m a gay man and blow jobs are great, but I want more than that.

Hallmark Christmas movie but with gay stepbrothers and spanking?
Ok, so you won't find this one on Hallmark, but the vibe is there. It's light, it's cutesy, there are Christmas ornaments, a mistletoe kiss and...gingerbread lube. Ho, ho, ho indeed.
There was just enough character development to pull it off. I think they complement each other well, and this does use the whole kink as a way to help manage organisational struggles thing that I surprisingly find I enjoy. After all, it seems like a good incentive to me, carrot and stick and whatnot.
Misha Horne knows how to write spanking, and I appreciated the use of at-home implements here. Pervertibles, they call them - marvellous! It doesn't always have to be purpose-made paddles and whips. I mean, have you ever really been spanked if you haven't taken a wooden spoon to the ass? I think not.

Misha Horne builds a unique and unusual dynamic between the main characters in What Happens at Christmas. Both guys are from single parent homes, and the parents marry just as they've finished high school. Since these two never lived together while growing up, and didn't know each other before, they've got all kinds of misunderstandings about each other.
There's a lot of posturing and peacocking going on in the first third of the story, but stay the course, because Misha Horne is laying the groundwork for a sweet and very moving self-discovery romance. A nice balance of power evolves between these guys, as they forge a friendship along with their physical attraction.
If you're familiar with Horne's writing, you already know they write some steamy hot erotica. What might surprise you, is they turn a clever phrase as well. This is the first book I've read by this author in quite awhile, and I'm so glad to re-discover them. The Benched series is one of my favorites, and I highly recommend it for fans of spanking and D/s relationships.

Rounded up, and I almost just gave it 3 stars out of the Christmas spirit, which hit all the right notes for me here, but it's mostly just Christmas-flavored smut. It's solid smut, though, so it's a good choice if that's what you're looking for, especially since the feels are good, too.
But the internal dialogue is a bit repetitive at the beginning, and they feel a little juvenile (which may be an unfair complaint for 19-year-olds? one of whom I swear was initially described as 23? or maybe *is* 23??) -- but mostly I feel like I'm always going to be chasing the initial high of my first Misha Horne. I'm not sure if I just read the best one first or if it was just my first "spanking" romance so anything would have made an impression :) I'm not sure I'd keep reading them if it wasn't for Old School Discipline though...

A grumpy/sunshine, stepbrother holiday romance with some classic Misha Horne spanking. This is probably the cutest and cheesiest Horne book I've read and because it was holiday themed it just seemed to work. If you're looking for some gingerbread lube, kisses under a mistletoe and literal thrashing with Christmas branches then this is it for you.

I had a feeling I would love this book and I fell in love instantly, Rex and Brad's slow burn feels over the holidays were so sweet. Of course there is steamy moments with kink, plenty of heat too but its the realisation that they fit together that truly caught me.
These two haven't really took the chance to get to know each other before, but through stumbling into common ground they start to open up too each other and fall in love. I adored their banter and pervertisations of various objects around the house, along with their shopping trip they were just lot of fun.
Also the christmas market exploring the various areas and all of the festive vibes. The ornaments and snacks, to the toy displays and just all of the sweet moments. Holding hands and kissing under the mistletoe, so many feels!
The reveal of gifts for each other and discussion of christmas films, especially the romances and falling in love over a few days. A lovely, perfect romcom and christmas read with a wonderful happy ending! 💕

Probably uncool to check out my stepbrother whenever he showed up, but let’s be real, the whole stepbrother thing was in air quotes anyway.
This was a Hallmark-esque read, if Hallmark movies featured stepsiblings and creative spanking utensils. I liked that both the characters felt like ones I could invest a little hope/care into despite the short length of the read. I would have enjoyed a little more

See? Hallmark-y. But that is sooo not a complaint! The Santa Village was probably my favorite part of the whole read =) Or maybe the snowflake-shaped spatula? ^^

Going back to school seems impossible for Brad until Rex admits the truth about how he feels and Brad asks Rex to go back with him. And he agrees.

Such a cute, kinky story! And it even got me in the mood for the holidays and it's only September!
Rex and Brad find that they have similar kinks...Brad likes to be spanked and Rex likes to do the spanking. But they also discover that they love kissing, spending time together and sleeping together. So sweet.

B) Misha makes me too invested in characters in books that are basically porn what plot and I feel myself always wanting more of them

I was not expecting the level of wonderfulness that I found in here but I was so glad to have read it.
Brad and Rex did not fight the instalove and just went with it which was awesome.
For a story with no penetration, it was extremely hot and the sexytimes worked.
