My Love Wasn't Meant For You

Rate this book
Mekhi Kage is every woman’s dream man. He’s suave, alpha, handsome, and wealthy. Mekhi craves control, and he likes everything to go his way. As the founder of For The People multimedia company, Mekhi is determined to put out quality content for his African American culture. So when BaddieBookBabe, an infamously tough book reviewer, gives a one star review to Mekhi’s most popular and highest paid author, he is determined to get her to remove the review… or join his team.

Because it’s best to keep your friends close and your enemies closer, right?

Jacintha Freeman, or the BaddieBookBabe as the literary industry knows her, is tough on books and even tougher on the authors that write them. She’s determined to make sure that Black people are portrayed in the brightest light and highest high in the books that are supposed to represent them. When she is recommended a book by Stone, a male author who stands for the complete opposite of what she believes in, Jacintha refuses to promote him as a noteworthy author – no matter how much Mekhi tries to get her to.

Because it’s best to stand firm on your values than fall for a handsome face, right?

When Mekhi offers Jacintha a job as his Top Critic, she is skeptical to accept, but does so with the intent of making the industry she loves better. As time progresses, enemies become lovers who turn to enemies and lovers all over again. Promises are made, secrets are kept, and reputations are destroyed. It comes as no surprise to anyone when their professional relationship turns personal, but will their love be able to stand when it wasn’t meant for each other to begin with?

I have never related to a character as much as I did with Jacintha Freeman. I am BaddieBookBabe and she is me. Allow me to set the scene. Jacintha is a freelance editor who is known in the literary world as BaddieBookBabe or Triple B for short. In her free time, she reviews books on her blog and her followers take her recommendations very seriously. Jacintha’s reviews can pretty much make or break a book’s success and affect the author’s future releases. When she gives a harsh one star review to Stone, a popular author over at For The People, she sends the black literary world into a frenzy. Mekhi Kage is the elusive founder of For The People, a black owned multimedia company. He has one goal in mind and that’s to get Stone on the New York Time’s best seller list. There’s only one thing standing in his way. BaddieBookBabe and her negative reviews. When Jacintha’s less than stellar review of Stone’s latest release hits the blogosphere, Mekhi has his assistant send her a nice nasty email asking her to take down her review. Jacintha promptly hits them with some knowledge they weren’t ready to hear. “Listen, when a book is published, it no longer belongs to the author. It belongs to the free world to interpret how we please. I am entitled to my opinion.” Whew! When I tell y’all I felt that in my spirit! If I have not said this exact same thing at least a million times! I’m feelin’ real seen right now. 🥺🥺🥺 When Mekhi realizes Jacintha will not bend so easily, he decides to keep his enemies close and offers her a job as his top critic at FTP. The drama and secret tea that unfolds when these two start working together are entertaining to say the least. My Love Wasn’t Meant For You was the perfect love story. The characters are complex with realistic lives and the storyline was well developed. Jacintha and Mekhi drew me in from the beginning and kept me engaged during the entire book. Whether you’re a book blogger or just a simple book reviewer like myself, you will easily relate to these characters. I loved BaddieBookBabe's approach as a critic. She was 100% her authentic self and didn’t give a damn who liked or didn’t like her reviews. Again, I’m feelin’ real seen. 🥺🥺🥺 I especially loved that a lot of her viewpoints mirrored my own. This book was the perfect insta love story done right and I enjoyed every second of it.

I already anticipated that I was going to enjoy this book after Annette’s review so my excitement was through the roof. Well let me tell y’all, it was even better than I expected!!! Triple B aka BaddieBookBae is an Freelance editor, book blogger and avid reviewer! She has no problem giving 1 star review where they are due and Author Stone is at the top of her hit list! She stayed reading him for the filth that he deserved and I was all the way here for her honesty. Make these authors do the work!!! Her most recent review has him DEEP in his feelings and since he knows that she has a strong following and her review can potentially ruin what HE thought was a masterpiece, his team reaches on to kindly request that she remove her review from the various platforms she left it on. BBB said not tuhday nïgga you better level up on ya writing instead!

Mekhi is the head of For the People a company created for Black creatives to be great in a safe space. It’s his baby and he takes pride in all that he has accomplished. He literally got it out the mud and for the most part his company is very successful. However he’s miserably failing as an author. Yup he’s Stone and he cannot take any more bashing from BBB. Now one thing I admired about Mekhi was that he didn’t STAY in his feelings, he took her criticism as constructive and leveled up.

In the process of figuring out how to meet in the middle from a business perspective, these two crossed paths without initially knowing the true identities of each other! Before they knew what hit them love was in the mf air 🤣🤣 All I have to say is read the book! You’ll love it and I’m sure you will be able to relate to it as well! There’s humor, sisterhood, friendship, a razzle dazzle of drama and most of all love 🥰🥰

Jacintha x Mekhi

I read this book simply because one of my fave book reviewers read it and loved it. And let me tell you…so did I. I love how the author created this. I know next to nothing about what happens behind closed doors in the literary world: The author writes it, the editor edits, (although nowadays, I'm not even sure if editing is a real thing anymore 👀) and the publisher publishes. But, there's more to it and the author gave me a little glimpse of that.
Jacintha, aka Triple B, aka, baddiebookbabe was literally just that. A whole baddie who loves books.
After an honest review written by her for a book by Stone, who's under the "For The People" conglomerate, some feathers were ruffled. Mekhi, the CEO, COO, CFO, the Chief everything of FTP asked Jacintha to take down the review passive aggressively, but she stood by her review, (as she should) and refused to take it down. So he did what he had to do. He brought her in…cause if you can't beat them, join them right…But, there were secrets, romance, sex, a normal amount of family drama, a Karen named Karin…oh, and human ashes!?!?
All the ingredients for a super cute RomCom. As a book lover, I love and appreciate this book.

What a wonderful and passionate love story...

Typically I’m not a fan on insta love but this was insta love done right and I really really enjoyed very second of it! I couldn’t give it more than three stars because there were some grammatical errors. The passion that is felt between Jah and Mahki is so freaking real. I didn’t know how they would make it work but they did and I loved that the story was set between a writer and book reviewer. That is definitely my own personal dream relationship lmao. I can see that B. Love has a lot to offer as a writer and I plan to read more of her books. I’ll be doing a full written review of this on my blog soon.

I enjoyed this short's likable characters and realistic setting. It was entertaining to read the interactions between the 2 main characters, as they both possessed strong personalities. Great read and I would like to read about other characters.

LOVED IT

This was a great standalone. From unknown identities to one night stands, you couldn't help but love Jacinta and Mekhi's attraction for each other. They fell hard and it showed amongst those around them. Both driven individuals whose professional lives have brought them together and formed an amazing business relationship. Despite Mekhi's other identity being revealed, and Jacinta feeling betrayed, she knew that her love for Mekhi was too strong for her give up on what she longed for in a relationship. B. Love did an amazing job putting this story together. Would love to read more about Zuri and Uriah.

My drought was saved ‼️

So lately it’s been dry for me in the reading world I guess my expectations can be high sometimes lol but this definitely helped the drought my god. The chemistry between these two were everything the experience and passion they had was so intimate and loving even when trying to deny there signals just kept connecting. I love Jacintha’s occupation for real it was like a fourth wall break in a way for me but very subtle and Mekhi’s occupation made it round out even better for this story on the two of them. They very much match for each other and are made for each other they just get it I can’t even explain 😂. Cint’s family dynamic was so loving and supporting and there for each other I love to see it; wish I could get some back story on Mekhi and his people but it definitely didn’t take away from the story I think I’m just greedy. B. Love definitely brought that juice again to her story because I ate it all up. I high key wanted more on them because that wasn’t enough they just kept me smiling !!!

Sometimes the love is meant for the one you least expect...

Queen B, done gave us another amazing work of art.

Mekhi & Jacinta were total opposites who really couldn't stand each other. They met, hooked up and thought that would be it, but neither were existing to feel what they felt after just one night together. He did everything to her body that he promised he'd do, mhmm💦. Their love hate relationship brought him to offer her a job and ultimately work together only for him to realize she's his hookup, but she knew the horn moment they hooked up the second time.

Despite all the hatred she had for the male characters in the books he published she agreed to work with him. Her love wasn't meant for him but he claimed it as his. Granted they had a few hiccups along the way but he was determined to make sure she didn't leave him or his company.

Everything isn’t always as it seems

I have to say I truly enjoyed this book! From Triple B’s scathing book review that caused a writer a great deal of anguish. To the unexpected meeting of two people who were just looking for a moment to breath, and them forming a connection that was unbreakable, even when they tried to.

Mekhi ,and Jacintha were so perfect for each other. I couldn’t help but smile throughout the majority of the book. Mekhi was definitely Book Bae, bringing all the BDE to the forefront
Jacintha was fearless and yet she could find her fighting of anxiety if things seemed to be out of control 😊. Beautiful story. Kind of wished it had been a little longer ❤️.

Just Right

“My Love Wasn’t Meant For You” was a refreshing read & exactly what I needed (tonight), characters with depth, conflict/resolution, love/romance & great plot development! Thereafter, Jacintha & Makhi were ideal for each other. Actually, their journey was similar to (characters: Leslie & Scott) in one of my favorite movies “Just Wright”. …a casual introduction, parallel recreational interests, created a professional opportunity, evolved into a date, transformation of their relationship from platonic to romantic etc. “My Love Wasn’t Meant For You” is the literary equivalent of “Just Right”.👏🏾👏🏽👏🏿🥰‼️

How Appropriate

Only a true writer can pen a tale about a writer that can't write a good s tag off because he's missing key elements of said story that would make it successful! Nothing kills a story more than lack of character development and unanswered questions. This story had all of Jacintha's elements of a great story with number one being character development. In fell in love with Mekhi from jump. He showed compassion and strength and vulnerability. This is a 5 star read!

My Love Wasn’t Meant For You

What’s for you will only be manifested to you and will withstand all obstacles because the right recipients have been aligned.

Disagreements, withheld information, passion for one’s culture, open to criticism, humble enough to make changes, and the ability to follow your discernment without too many questions will make everyday a great day with the one you you’re meant to be with

Be still, my heart

I literally died at their moment in her office towards the end. I felt myself being torn between who to root for more him or her until I realized the real answer was them. Separately they were each their own form of mess but together, him with her and her with him, its perfect chemistry. This was the perfect love story.

When B. Love put out the call for Black Book Bloggers and Reviewers who would like to review her upcoming project I was beyond excited. I quickly put my name down to be one of the lucky ones. I was stalking her page about the upcoming release daily and couldn’t wait for her to let it out to the world. My Love Wasn’t Meant for You by B. Love was set free and I was sucked into B. Love’s world.

Jacintha reviews books on her blog (woot woot) and she’s a freelance editor. She is known as Baddiebookbae in the literary world and her subscribers take her recommendations to heart. She has been working so much that she hasn’t had, and I quote “long thick dick” in weeks and it was starting to show. She ends up having a one-night stand and didn’t even get the name of the guy that gave her the best orgasms in her life. Being offered her dream job; she realizes there may be some complications if she decides to accept it. Family issues start arising having her question everything that she has believed in. Jacintha is brutally honest when it comes to her reviews and especially when she isn’t feeling something. Recently she reviewed “Trapping A Trap God” by Stone and the reviews were not what For the People publishing company wanted. At this point, they are wondering if it is something personal against Stone.

Mekhi the elusive founder of For the People is keeping a huge secret one that can affect his personal and professional life. Currently, he is trying to figure out how to get Stone on the New York Times Bestseller List. There is only one thing standing in the way and its BaddieBookBae also known as Triple B at FTP. Doing the unthinkable to get Stone on the bestseller list he reaches out to BaddieBookBae. Realizing the one person that gave him the best night of his life is also the person that loathes Stone puts him in a situation that he wasn’t prepared for.

Being that this book is about being a blogger and writing reviews I was able to relate easily to the storyline. Even if you are not a blogger or a reviewer you would be able to relate to the characters easily. The two main characters drew me in from the beginning and B. Love kept me engaged during the whole book. The sex scenes were extremely hot and the connection the two shares outside of the bedroom was passionate and welcoming. Even when Jacintha started having family issues, I enjoyed how Mekhi made it his mission to help her cope through it while not being overbearing and still giving her space to adjust. I love it when a story can expound upon a relationship outside of the bedroom and this one did.

I loved the writing- it has a smooth pace to it, and it kept me hooked the whole time. As far as Mekhi and Jacintha’s story B. Love wrapped it up well and you weren’t left questioning where they were headed career-wise or relationship-wise. B. Love made sure she didn’t leave you hanging any and I appreciated that.

I strongly suggest you grab your copy of My Love Wasn’t Meant for You and check out other books by B. Love!

Very good read and hope it turns into a series about finding love with her sisters at some point. She was the person he needed to put him in the right direction for his writing. His writing got better and so did their love for one another. Great story.

I Fell in Love Too

How can you not relate to these characters? They’re so different and the author does a fantastic job of bringing them together. Once they realized that love had seeped inside them, a smile crept on my face. I would enjoy keeping up with this couple.
