She is the water to his fire and the calm to his storm. Never in his 26 years of life did Tron think he would find his equal, but Kleigh is exactly that. Her beauty speaks to his eyes, while her mind whispers to his soul. He can't imagine anybody else wearing the crown as queen after he kills the king of Harlem and takes over the throne.
Kleigh never wanted Tron to fall in love with her, or vice versa. She isn't who he thinks she is, but how can she tell him that the kingpin he is gunning for, Kevin "Klax" Turner, is her big brother? When push comes to shove and her secret comes to light, Kleigh is forced to pick a side. That choice is what ignites the fire to a war of savages... a fire that can only be put out by blood.
C. N. Phillips is an author from Omaha, NE. She realized her passion at the ripe age of eight and her love for words never went away. She is most known for her ability to weave a heart pounding and gritty story from nothing.
Currently signed to Carl Weber's publishing house, Urban Books, C. N. Phillips is already trailblazing alongside her predecessors. With titles such as The Last Kings, Kingpins Los Angeles, and Me & My Girl she wants the world to know that she's getting started.
This book was fire from the Prologue. Usually, those aren't my things, but it set the tone on the rest of the book, truly. My favorite was Kleigh. She was a no nonse character, well crafted and brilliant. My second favorite would be Klax due to his unbelievable changes he went through. If you haven't read this book, don't wait!!!!
I have read all of the books in the Kingpin series. This book started off with a bang. Sunny loses his wife and daughter but wad.able to save his son, Tron. His uncle was.deceitful, cunning and responsible for Sunny's death. I was glad about the relationship between Adonis and Klax. Enjoyed relationship between Kaleigh and Tron. Well written and enjoyable read.
That twist towards the end was a motha! I love when I’m able to be surprised about a story and what’s real crazy is I love Kyan, Tron and Sunny as if I know them in real life. You have another fan for life. Thank you 🙏🏽
This book was fast pace from jump. First off the mother Diana was a psycho chick which I learned was also bipolar. How can you do that madness to your only son. I understand Boogie he thought it was this way and it wasn’t he was upset about his dad he just went on and I mean in hard. I was definitely shocked to find out the true identity of Morgan. The ending was crazy but I get it.
I would keep going on but you have to read the book to fill in the blanks.
Surprisingly, I liked this book, better than Kingpins: Los Angeles. The story had an inspirational message to live your life, without regret that you passed up on those things that would have brought you true joy and happiness. There was a lot less sexually explicit text, and more of a storyline with a plot. There was still a lot of the "N" word, and "M***** F*****", but that is a personal distaste for those terms. Cussing is not a problem for me, I just don't use or care for those words, or "c**t". And I'm not prudish, I just don't like reading sexually explicit text, or watching sexually explicit activity in movie theaters, or on TV. It's just not my cup of tea. If you like urban fiction, I would recommend this book, because I did enjoy reading this one. 👍
This book kept me on the edge of my seat. Twists; turns; surprises. You couldn’t guess what was coming next. Great Read. Can’t wait to see what Book 3 brings.
It was a good read, first time I've read C.N. Phillips work. I will definitely read more of her work. My favorite character, Klax very smooth, and leveled-headed.
Secrets, secrets, secret s, lies, drugs, and finally love. I was happy that Caesar was alive, in a coma but alive. Boogie had so much misdirected anger in him he couldn't see the forest for the trees. I was glad that his immediate circle of friends stuck by him. Now Sharma and Dina were both ruthless. Surprised about Morgan. I was glad that Diana early on let Boogie know that she loved him and he was able to return to her for guidance. This part had so much twists and turns that it was crazy. I fully enjoyed part two and on to the next part. Excellent read.
I listened to the audiobook and the narration was horrible. When he did women’s voices it sounded like Vera De Milo from In Living Color. This is the second book in the Five Families of New York series. The overall story was good and it kept my attention from beginning to end. More plot twists and a semi-surprise for me because I picked up on the subtle little hints and figured it out but when it was exposed it was like “wow” and “I knew it” at the same time. Hopefully book three will clear up another mystery and Boogie has gotten some sense and is less hotheaded so he can handle business like a real boss.
OMG.. This WAS A WILD TALE.. AND IT'S NOT OVER YET.. BOOGIE'S OWN MOTHER... WOWWWWWWW. And I cannot Believe He really Fell for that Bullcrap from Shamar. That seemed so UNBELIVEABLE That Boogie would just jump in with Him Like That. I MUST crack the next part. I can't wait to see how this plays out.
After reading and watching the Family Business, I didn't think I would enjoy the Five Families of New York. But I was pleasantly surprised. It was on and popping from the very beginning. It was a good storyline and very easy to follow the characters. I especially liked the back story that was given in some instances.
I’m loving this series so far. Can’t wait until book 3 comes out. Boogie has learned a very valuable lesson in this one. Several plot twists had me going and love the humor as always.
I enjoyed this installment of the series. The plot twists were good and the backstroke that revealed secrets were well scripted. I also like that some things required change in the characters.
Not gone lie, I wanted Boogie to die for his audacity and high strung emotional outbursts that led to all the chaos but I guess he saw the light before it was too late
Something was very wrong with Dina, and Boogie will need serious therapy. A page turner, with a cliffhanger of an ending; to be continued! Can't wait to start the next book (Bronx) in the series!
