Dirty Southern Secrets #2

Something Honorable

Rate this book
She’s the perfect incarnate of an angel. Pure. Innocent. The only reason I come to church on Sunday mornings. The only woman I treat differently than the others. The only woman I unintentionally make promises to.

Promises I do intend to keep.

I’m practically sin walking. Immoral. Dishonorable. The very reason she should be in church on Sunday mornings. The only man she has ever allowed to touch her. The only man who makes her turn her back on everything she believes in. The only man who has the capability to destroy her.

And does.

Promises aren’t always kept. Life can unravel at the seams. The decisions we make when our world is falling apart can either be cowardly or something honorable.

**Something Honorable is Tauren and Helene's story and is book two in the Dirty Southern Secrets Series. It is a standalone full-length novel. It contains adult content, adult language, and sexual content. It is intended for mature readers only.**

I am a happily married mother of three (two boys and one girl). I live in a very small town in Alabama. Never lived anywhere else. I’ve been writing since my early twenties, but I couldn’t seem to finish a book. I’ve started self-publishing with the encouragement from my mom. Without her encouragement, I don’t think I would’ve done it. She always supported me and writing is something I’ve always enjoyed doing. As long as I enjoy it, I’ll continue to do it. I’ve learned already that I can’t please everyone. Not all reviews will be good, not all reviews will be bad. I’m the one that has to be happy with my work.

I get my inspiration from life experiences, movies, television, other authors, and music. Music is definitely a big influence on my writing. I can hear a song and it can inspire an entire book for me. I listen to it while I’m driving or before I start writing and it keeps me inspired. I like to put music in my books, even if it’s just one song the characters listen to or hear at some point. Sometimes music has gotten me through the really tough times in my life and that’s why it inspires me.

I like to write fast-paced, steamy romance reads. I like for my males to be alpha-males and my heroines to be strong, but both need to have one weakness- each other. I am an avid reader. I absolutely love romance books!

Let's see how ridiculous this author has come:

He has loved her since childhood, BUT HE CONTINUED TO FUCK OTHER WOMEN.

They have been dating for a year, BUT HE CONTINUED TO FUCK OTHER WOMEN.

She asked him to stop doing this (fuck other women)
he promised that he would be faithful to her and then she gave her virginity to him, and guess what! What did THIS HONORABLE MAN do? !! (After taking her virginity and telling her that he loved her?!!)

YES MY PEOPLE !! HE IGNORED HER FOR TWO MONTHS AND CONTINUES TO FUCK OTHER WOMEN (MANY, MANY MANY MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY OTHER WOMEN AROUND ALL THE LITTLE CITY !!!)

Now of course she has always been in love with him, she was brought up to forgive and since the author could not bother to be original, she accepts the loser and all his venereal diseases and they are HAPPY FOREVER !!!

DOES THE AUTHOR MADE THE EFFORT OF AT LEAST SEEKING IN THE DICTIONARY WHAT HONORABLE MEANS? !! (No, I do not think so)

Do you think I bought this garbage ?? Not! (thanks gosh for that), now if you want to value the time you have in your life, DO NOT DO LIKE ME! I even thought I'd add some precious quotations here so you guys have an idea of what RIDICULOUS CRAP I just READED , but I decided to take pity on my brain and do something more enjoyable than to waste more time with this kind of author who won a fucking star for having the guts to call this shit a romance.

(English is not my native language so I could have made the effort to correct the grammatical errors of my review, but considering that the author did not have the same consideration then I saw no reason for this) #sorrynotsorry

Since some people are going on reviews attacking, the hero in this book does take the heroines virginity and then bc her father tells him to stay away he proceeds to sleep with every girl in town immediately. They arent officially together, but if you dont like that this is one of those books.

I have KU so I grabbed it to show a passage of the way he acts after he finds out he got her pregnant.

“Fun you’ve been having since the two of you split?” he teases, and I roll my eyes.

“It’s not like we were ever officially together,” I remind him. “Oh, don’t give me that bullshit, little brother. You popped her cherry and then dumped her,” Kaler retorts. “After her daddy kicked your ass.” Yeah, I told Kaler and Kipton both what happened that night. For the most part anyway. I left out Pastor Jacobs’ threats and told them I decided Helene wasn’t worth the trouble, especially after I’d gotten what I wanted from her. Her daddy would never let her go, and she would never stand up to him.

“Good thing you didn’t tell anyone else about that,” Kipton laughs. “Especially your little bathroom waitress. God knows she loves to run her mouth.” “She loves to use it too,” I wink.

I read a good portion of it, then skimmed bc there is nothing to emotionally connect too, and it's just not very well-written. It's very much one of those books that is steeped in misogyny where the guy gets to numb his pain with sex/fun, and the girl cant because ~respectable~ girls dont have sex unless they are in love. Also she gets punished for having sex with the pregnancy, but he gets everything he wants for being an ass. She just didnt come across very special to him even when he was supposed to be in love with her so eh. Kind of a shame bc it would be an interesting premise, but as usual an authors misogyny ruins the book.

It also had a lot of that "I will be the only one to ever be inside you" nonsense, and she is so happy even tho his dick has been in every girl in town, just not the kind of book that appeals to me anymore (it never did really), so this author will be on my never read list. I just dont agree with her mentality on romance or girls being sluts (my words not the authors but I can read between the lines) if they sleep with more than one man.

The triggered chicks made me read this because of their insults. I mean, who can resist a book where reviewers question readers morality, intelligence, and taste???

Well…those bitches lied. This needed another 20k-30k words for me to feel like a tacky, dumb whore. 😂

I guess I also need to get used to their lies and exaggerations…cuz even when they defend each other they still aren’t really telling the truth.

make no mistake this book give me a headache and sorry but i find it really weird when a grown up person say daddy even when they are speaking to each other not like speaking with a kid , say dad all the characters were like her daddy my daddy ......for me it was like reading those weird books with daddy fetish eeeh nooo.
- i wanted to :
- FL :
slap her again and again she was a submissive charachter in a way that made you ( want to slap her ) her father literally treated her like a child , i'm all for respecting your parents i see the kids nowdays and how rude they are , they could and should get some beating ( not the hurmful beating chill out ) *.*
but when you are a 21 years old women and you get treated like that you need to put some rules , yes rules for your father so he get his mind straight . it was not just him hating the ML and forbidden her to see him no , he controlled every other aspect of her life like it was his she should have moved out way sooner and stoped him from emotionally balckmailing her.
oooh and she and the ML aghghhghgh for real! puch the a** once and twice and then all over again .
that and i was not so happy with her change since i was by then had enough.
ML:
he was a piece of ******* did not like him at all there is no words to say what i want to say about him , he was at first on ok did some playing but our very smart FL said and suggest it so she give him the pass and well why would he refuse if her herself was ok with it .
anyway the reason for my hate that after the break up he went and did what any ***** did you kow the usual . true her father threated his familly and that's way he break it up but did you need to go and and have "ur fun" nooo that was just you acting like .......
So no this one was not good .

Hero/heroine have to hide their relationship because heroine is the pastor’s daughter. Hero does hook up with others while being with the heroine. She is aware and tells him to do. Eventually she tells him she just wants it to be her so he stops. There is about a month and a half separation where he does hook up with others. Heroine finds out shes pregnant some push/pull but eventually they do marry but unfortunately she miscarries. Push/pull again before the HEA.

The next book looks like it might be about the ex-wife to Hero in the first book (his high school sweetheart) and said Hero’s brother. That’ll be a pass for me. Not into family sharing.

manho H.virgin goodgirl/christian h with itnerfering bully father who owns the town.
Hated the h's father, supposesly man of God/preacher who's also the chief of police?? Tried to keep daughter who btw is an adult from being with the town bad boy. I honestly got the impression no own would ever be good enough. Terrible father/man.
H/h finally did the deed and father caught them right after, beat up the H and threatened his family hence the separation and the man whoring commences. Apparently he tried to bury his sorrows in anything with a vag jay jay or a mouth for those blow jobs.
Poor h had to work with own of his hook ups who took pleasure in telling her about said blowjobs.
The first bit was sweet small town romance but the rest, after the separation was disappointing and predictable. I just imagine now that they are together, h having ot run into the multitude of women the H went thru, even his brothers tried to talk to him about it - disgusting.
Hated how possessive and proud he was that he was the only one for the h -- just stop with the double standards please! not saying i want my h's to sleep around woman whoring about the town but some equality here -- women are sexual too right?
The H almost hooked up with same OW for blow job again after he was married and fight with h. He eventually stopped it but went to far since OW had his penis in her hands and had she not mentioned the h, he would have followed through so that's cheating for me.

I did love the family dynamic for the H, the parents still loving each other up after so many years together and adult kids - yeah.
Overall, not bad but could have done with out the H man whoring his way through town.

I am blown away by Tauren and Helenes story! Their love was one that was meant from early on. Tauren has always had some feelings for Helene. When she is all grown up , he know she is the ONE for him. The one who will settle this wild man down. Until her dad gets in the middle. Will their love be enough? What other obstacles will they face? Can they emerge on the other side happy? Please read Something Honorable and enjoy their journey!

"She's the perfect incarnate of an angel and I'm practically sin walking"

"My feelings for him terrify me. I want things that I shouldn't want. Sinful things. Things that I know better than to want."

Helene Jacobs is a good girl and a preachers daughter from a very small town. Helene follows all of her fathers rules except when it comes to Tauren Holt. Helene's father has a hatred towards Tauren that cannot be cured.

Tauren Holt is a walking sin. He races cars and loves the ladies. He tries not to make promises to anyone that he cannot keep, including Helene.

When Tauren and Helene get caught seeing each other all hell breaks loose. Helene has to promise not to see him anymore and Tauren has to promise to stay away.

Well, we all know how I feel about this author. I have read pretty much everything that she has written. This time I had to wait a day after reading to write this review. While I was reading this book I was angry, my heart was crushed then I was happy. Overall, I was a MESS! I cried (big crocodile tears) and had to pull myself back together. All of that being said I was unable to take my eyes off the pages. This book is amazing. You really get so wrapped in the story and town that you feel like you are there.

I loved this story and would recommend everyone read it. With that being said it is not for the faint of heart and have a box of tissues! I cannot wait to read more. Love the Holt brothers.

Helene is the town's good girl with a father that is a pastor. Tauren is the bad boy with a bike and talk of the town. The two have been secretly meeting for a year until Helene's father finds out. The two end up marrying and having to deal with problems. All the emotions in this story just kept me wanting more. A wonderful read and addition to the series.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review.

Dreadful. 1.5* rounded down because it is insulting to both men and women.

short version:
If I had been reading this for pleasure I would have stopped at the 2% mark. It is a terrible novel but perhaps an excellent cautionary tale on the importance of sex education and good female role models. h is a doormat. H is promiscuous. There is on page blowjob from OW and off page sex with multiple others. This is as excused as being because men are idiots. He claims all he does when he sticks (his) dick in any willing woman is pretend they are Helene. That is not romantic to me.

I can imagine a book where the writing is good enough to show intense personal growth for such dreadful human but this book is not it.

Long version
Why I bothered to read this crap:
I am in the middle of another book and thinking I can not take how awful it is and yet it gets glowing reviews from thousands. I wonder how they can read the dreck and give it 5 stars. What are they seeing that I am not. I just can't take it so I procrastinate by getting on GR and I stumble upon this book and read this review . I particularly loved her final sentence about grammar. But one of the commenters wonders if they are even reading the same book. I recognize that feeling so rather than finish my awful current read I decided to read this and see if I could understand both points of view. I went into it as if I were doing a research paper on it. I took copious notes.

Results:
- The kindle formatting was not not great. Table of contents not working, chapters starting at the bottom of the page.
-Words were used incorrectly and other grammar mistakes. Some examples:
"She’s the perfect incarnate of an angel."

"It's not that I don't believe in the constitution of marriage ..."

"I go ... and get my beer, also grabbing me another cold one ..."

"...he's performed oral sex to me on a car ..."

-They were dating for a year secretly but she won't have sex with him because they are not married.
-She tells him to do what he needs to do because she knows "..(he) has needs."
- The book has a logic fail on this point because he says he is tempted to take her up on on this and go get his needs met but it also comes out in three instances that he has been with multiple other women in the last year.
-She confronts him about his kissing a waitress (Abby), he says all the other girls mean nothing and he offers to never touch them again. So she asks him to not be with other women and he promises her he won't.
-She is 22 and her comments about sexual desire and sex show an incredible lack of knowledge. Language and knowledge displayed are at an 10 year old level. She doesn't understand the ""...sensation between (her) legs..."
-They get hot and bothered in a car and she asks him for intercourse. Now she suddenly talks about her "core" to to against him.
-They are caught by her father who beats him with a club and threatens his family.

-He refuses to speak to her for six weeks but proceeds to sleep with multiple women
There is no way to get around this fact. It is plainly stated by multiple people, in multiple chapters, including both h and H. We even get treated to an on page blow job from Abby. He claims its ok because he was not dating Abby or any of the others. It is excused by others as him numbing the pain.

-He is tricked into seeing her by his brother and she tells him off then instantly becomes a doormat again because he smiled at her.
- She is pregnant and when he sees the pee stick he actually says "How do I even know it's mine"
-They get married, she miscarries, and then she hides in his bedroom for a couple of weeks. So when Abby grabs his penis when he is at the urinal he lets her stroke him and he does not stop her for a while. Despite lack of ejaculation I call that cheating.

to end on a better note
The only positive message in the book was about the pregnancy

God is not going to banish me from heaven simply because I had premarital sex....This baby is not a punishment, and I can't bring myself to call him or her a mistake either. Surprise is a much better word

Something Honorable, brings us back to a small town in Alabama, where everyone knows everyone and where everything you do is not far from prying eyes.

This story, however is focused on the youngest Holt brother, Tauren, and the Pastor's daughter, Helene Jacobs.

"She's the perfect incarnate of an Angel and I'm practically sin walking."

Ever since the tender age of 11, Pastor Jacobs had Tauren pegged for a troublemaker for riding his bike in church. Unfortunately, that is a reputation that followed him into adulthood with no help from him.

Tauren is a potty mouthed, womanizing, take charge and no cr*p from anyone type who has his eyes set on the sheltered, God fearing, send out birthday cards to the elderly, good girl, Helene.

Despite her father's protests and overprotective and overbearing ways, Helene falls in love with Tauren. Although, she is 22 years old, she is on a very short leash and tight rein with her father and he treats her like a child ever since her mother died when she was 10. He is very controlling and possessive, and even has his deputy as a watch dog to keep tabs on Helene.

For over a year, Tauren and Helene share only brief and stolen moments, which is starting to get old not only for Tauren but Helene as well.

Can Tauren continue on this path with Helene , knowing she may never be able to free herself from her daddys rule? Will Helene ever be able to stand up for herself and put herself first for the first time in her life?

This is a true love conquers all story that had me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I laughed when they laughed and cried when they cried . JL writes stories that have depth and a captivating storyline but she isn't afraid to bring up real life issues, which makes her characters not only vulnerable but relatable . They are flawed and human, which makes the reader feel included and invested in the lives of the people involved.

This book is about love and passion, loss and tragedy, heartbreak and forgiveness, all while finding yourself in the process. Can true love survive infidelity and distrust ? Misfortune and lack of communication?

The tears shed are not only ones of happiness but also redemption, acceptance, coping and "revival".

This town and the people in it give me Footloose vibes and I can't say I don't love everything about it 😆 and the Holt brothers ; drama and sinful whispers included.

I cannot wait for book three, which is Brynn and Kipton's story. Those are two characters only touched upon so far and I can't wait to see what their story holds.

Ok wow this one was mind blowing. I absolutely loved this one. I didn't see the things happening in this one that happened. I cried I wanted to crawl into this book and hug them both. Tauren is the bad boy of the community. Only because he rode his bicycle in the middle of the church one Sunday. Every since then he is considered no good. But Helene sees the good side to him and wants him in her life. Her father the pastor will do everything and anything to stop that from happening. But one night will change everything in more ways than one for both Helene and Tauren. Will it bring these two together or tore them even more apart? This book was gripping, amazing, breath taking, emotional, all of the above. This has become a favorite from J.L. I loved her writing before this one but this one proves why I love her writing. Just a book I could not put down.

Something Honorable is the second book in the Dirty Southern Secret series that is about bad boy Tauren Holt and Helene the pastor/police chief's daughter and what happens in a small town full of meddling people. Tauren has had feelings for Helene since they were younger, but now he wants her more than ever and will not give up until he has her. Can the bad boy get to keep this innocent young woman in his life? The only problem that is keeping them apart is her father, who has hated Tauren all these years and will try anything to keep him away from his daughter. Helene has always wanted Tauren but has led a sheltered life living by her father's rules, so they are forced to sneak around just to be together as they can't fight the strong chemistry that has developed between them. Now one night of passion will change their lives forever when they get caught which leads to violence for Tauren. Can Tauren walk away to protect his family as well as Helene? Can Helene give him up? This story was filled with passion, love, heartbreak and forgiveness as these two face a challenge that will have your emotions all over the place.. Another great romantic love story about Tauren and Helene by J.L. Leslie. This is a must read, can't wait for the next story between Kipton & Brynn!!! You will fall in love with all of these Holt brothers! I voluntairly reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this book, even though it had the emotions going nuts. Helene was a sweet, Christian girl, wouldn’t do no wrong because her daddy was the Pastor. And he ruled her life. But then there’s Tauren, he’s like the bad boy himself who rides his bike down the aisle in Church during Helene’s baptism. And doesn’t give a s**t about the Pastor either way. They don’t like each other.

But Helene and Tauren have been sneaking around for over a year and she’s in love with Tauren. And they meet whenever possible. Until daddy finds out and catches them one night and beats him up along with his deputy in front of her. And threatens him and his family.

Until Tauren goes to see Helene one day and finds out she’s pregnant and all bets are off. He’s going to marry Helene whether the Pastor likes it or not. And he’s tired of her father running her life and treating her like crap.

But things aren’t as pleasant after their marriage and it takes a lot of work and some understand and compassion for them both to get back to what they had, but their love can survive when the doors of communication are open.

It’s an awesome story. I think it was an amazing read by JL. Leslie. Another book that deals with a topic not usually discussed much, and couldn’t put it down. ❤️❤️

This book was so good, so true to southern form, was an amazing second book to the series.
A preachers daughter who also happens to be the sheriff of a small southern town, he’s got control and the respect of the people. His daughter Helen has been in love with the town “bad boy” he’s not really just a man deeply in love with a girl who’s almost untouchable due to her daddy. (Daddy is southern term for your dad not BDSM) this author kept true to southern terms and southern life and it was refreshing to see. The writing was so good and flowed very nicely, editing and grammar was properly used which is hard to find now days. A Racing man with a love for a women who is almost untouchable, he’s been after Helen for years they secretly date for a year before being caught and he takes some crap from her daddy and his deputy causing a rift in the relationship, he does kiss one other gal and does flirt a little but he never actually cheated on her as they weren’t actually together together for a while. I love how this author can take something and make it into a fabulous story that draws you and keeps you reading for hours and talking about it after. What a great second book to this amazing series.

This is the 2nd book in the Dirty Southern Secrets series. You can technically read this without reading the first but it’ll be more enjoyable if you read them in order. Wow!! This book seriously blew me away. The author definitely plays with your emotions as well as the characters in this story. You don’t know what to expect and when everything falls apart you start thinking how on earth is she going to fix this mess. I wasn’t so sure Tauren and Helene would overcome the heartbreak they both faced. I was glad they did because I really wasn’t sure how many more emotions I could take during this book. This will keep you glued with reading and turning these pages as fast as you possibly can to find out what happens. These are my favorite kinds of books where not everything is perfect from start to end. I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for the next one.

This book had my emotions ALL over the place.
First Helene was pissing me off for not standing up for herself. Then Tauren was pissing me off for being a jackass. Then I was crying (it was not pretty people).
Then I was so happy. Then crying again. OMG, why is J.L. messing with my emotions like this for? For a little while there I didn't know how I was feeling. I was such an emotional wreck.
I loved this book. Even though Helene was a doormat in the beginning, man did she get herself a backbone and I couldn't be more proud of her.
I suggest you start this series. It is worth it. Those Holt boy's are something else.

I read an advanced copy of this book.

This book was FANTASTIC! I LOVED Tauren & Helene and everything about them. The innocence, the forbidden romance that can’t be stopped.
They definitely had many of obstacles to overcome and if you read this book then you will learn about them. But I promise you that J.L Leslie leaves you happy in the end and I truly cannot wait for book 3 like it cannot come out fast enough! 😍

I give this book 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I would give it more if I could.
I have truly fallen in love with the Holt brothers and their families and again I can’t wait for more ♥️

If you haven’t read this.

Please do!
It’s amazingly great 😁

I see a lot of reviews complaining about cheating and that really just isn't the case. They are not officially in a relationship together when he is with other women. That is cheating, not what is in this book. Their entire relationship is made complicated by her father being a holier-than-thou sleaze that hides behind his badge and ministry. They both learn and grow a lot over the course of the story. He things he ends up doing for her in the end alone make him amazing. She is a total doormat for everyone for a long time, but then she grows up and comes into her own. I really enjoyed it.

This is book two in the Dirty Southern Secrets Series. This is Tauren and Helene's story and it is absolutely fantastic!! Helene is the preacher's daughter and your all American good girl. Tauren is the bad boy, your typical player and the preacher does not care for him. This story is intriguing, there is never a dull moment, an emotional rollercoaster and gripping, the storyline is flawless, captivating, has depth, and had an easy pace and flow. I loved the interactions, chemistry and romance between the characters. Fantastic read and one I highly recommend.

This book is a great second book in the series. While there were mentions of both main characters in book one, I didn’t see this book and their relationship playing out the way it did; even though I wondered if something on the line that did happen would. The story could play out in many different areas and lives in the world. Some of the details took my mind to a memory of a friend of mine and one I enjoyed being around- homerun on the realistic story! Love the Holt brothers and cannot wait to read the next one. I’m a huge fan of JL Leslie’s previous books and was excited to read the second book in the Dirty Southern Secrets series. The only thing that stopped this being a five star read for me was I really wanted the heroine to stand up more for herself. I wanted her to have her moment and demand the self respect she deserved. I understand she’s the shy, timid and quiet pastor’s daughter who can do no wrong but I was shouting at my kindle demanding she stand her ground, that she’s worth more.
I’m looking forward to see how the rest of the series goes though and anything else this author writes.

What happens when the preachers daughter falls for the city's bad boy? Well it's a huge bunch of drama. Helene is the definition of innocence and Tauren is the ... Well he's got the title bad boy for a reason. My heart actually went out to Helene for falling for and telling Tauren that she loved him. He said it back on the night her innocence vanished. My heart broke for her because what happened after.
I Love a bad boy but he should not of told her he loved it until he knew he would fight for her.
A Good read though.

I loved this book. I think Tauren is my favorite Holt brother! In this book you get to feel a roller coaster of emotions. The happy, excited, joy, new love, sad, hurt, upset, devastation and forgiveness. It’s a touching forbidden romance that is a must read.

The bad boy Tauren falls for the preachers daughter Helene. Her pastor and police chief dad does not approve. Somehow love still finds a way. Job well done J.L. Leslie

Something Honorable is something great.

Tauren and Helene are that couple you want to have that HEA no matter what. At a young age Tauren watched out for Helene but that put him on her fathers no go list. The bumpy road to their future was tough but it made them both stronger in the end. Brynn helping Helene bring some peace was a heart warming moment. Looking forward to her story.

I loved this second book of the series! Tauren is now my favorite Holt brother. Tauren’s story is emotionally charged and doesn’t disappoint. This bad boy falls for the preacher’s daughter, Helene. Helene is shy and timid and at times I wanted to reach into my kindle and shout at her to stand up for herself. Will these two find their way with each other? Will true love really conquer all? I can’t wait for the next installment of this series!
