- star rating-I would give this book a good 4 out of 5. It is a little boring but still has a lot of knowledge you can learn easily. It is pretty packed with facts to pick up on as a beginner fly fishermen. I think that it could explain what waters to fish fore each setup though theater would be really helpful in my opinion. Fav quote- My favorite quote from this book is select the right fly for the right water. The reason why I liked this quote so much is because it is very true if you don't have the right fly at the right time then you may not catch that fish. It has to be perfected fly fishing is pretty much an art.
An excellent and approachable introduction into the world and hobby of fly fishing. Perfect for any would-be angler who has just acquired their first rod and reel.
Well formatted, easy to read, and beautifully illustrated.
I liked this book it showed me many different flies to tye including some knew ones i learned it helped me learn what to tye your flies on i enjoyed this book
This book was wonderful, its what sustained me during long winters dreaming of a trout stream and during long summers of lazy pan fishing. It prepped me perfectly for our epic trips to the high country trout streams in Colorado. I got into fly fishing without the benefit of an experienced partner and the complications of the sport were beautifully simplified in this book. The paintings are beautiful and the writing is smart and quirky. To this day I remember this suggestion in paraphrase, When you catch a fish do not celebrate or gloat or behave in a boorish fashion. Words to live by"
A fast start for a lifetime of fishing adventures - with skill. Tom Meade is almost as knowledgeable as my brother! Bob White's color illustrations are inviting and reminiscent of A River Runs Through. I'm ready for my Montana trip in August 2012! Published by Lyons Press, I purchased at Restoration Hardware circa 1994!
