3.5 stars. Debated admitting reading this one because it’s an “embarrassing therapy title”, but if it helps someone else, then it is worth it. I gave it 3.5 stars because I felt like it was a bit redundant in parts, but overall it was very affirming of my experience. There are some very good and helpful tidbits, and it is generally a “hopeful” book, even though it isn’t rooted in the gospel. Didn’t read the second/companion book, and probably won’t.
Validated quite a few feelings and experiences from my past. Examples were oversimplified but I walked away from this book with tips and techniques on how to move forward with less hurt.

Both books are absolutely eye opening. By naming the things I have personally experienced and giving tons of examples I felt both seen and given permission to cultivate my inner world. It gave me words to express the things right under the surface and helped me understand many people in my life. Super helpful!!
