In the near future, humans have successfully colonized Mars, and set eyes on the Proxima b, the nearest exoplanet, on which we detected rich oxygen and mild temperature, an ideal candidate for human settlement. Through the Starshot mission, humans successfully landed a tiny robot on the surface of Proxima b. This intelligent robot was able to replicate itself, and built an infrastructure to receive human settlers. The harsh environment on Proxima b made it difficult for humans to conceive babies, but eventually humans found ways to overcome this hurdle, and a continuous and prosperous human settlement took a foothold on this exoplanet, and rapidly expanding. The most interesting aspect of this planet is the fact of it being tidally locked, meaning one side is permanently facing its star and the other side permanently facing away, creating this unique extremely hot on one side and extremely cold on the other. Humans were only able to settle on the equatorial regions first, but by constructing giant reflectors in space, they were able to illuminate the back side of the planet and render it habitable. The hot side of the planet was of no interest to humans, as it was impossible to make it habitable. Little did they know, the hot center of the planet harbored a deadly alien species that was just as advanced and intelligent as humans, secretly building military offense, ready to strike out to wipe out humans. The book is filled with exotic elements of this tidally locked exoplanet, from intense aurora borealis to strong planet wide storms, to huge solar flares, leading eventually to twists and turns in deadly battles between humans and this mysterious yet deadly alien species.
