Took a break from Gone Girl and let my brain have a rest, so what do I pick up but the closest book to me which so happens to be "Spot Goes to a Party". Yes, I read it alone, yes, I'm 18 years old, no, I don't care if you judge me.
Phoebe loves the Spot book collection and we have recently started to collect them slowly as we find them.
Phoebe loves any books with dogs and animals, so when we saw this on the shelf at the book store we knew we had to get it for her. Phoebe was so excited she picked this book. Phoebe loves how Eric Hill does the pop ups, she gets so excited to flip it over that sometimes I have to contain her from opening it first before we read the pages 😂.
I got this one from the library because Spot books are classic early reader books and I’m trying to encourage my kid to read more. However, while reading this we kept thinking how boring and pointless it was. Meh
Spot goes off to a friends birthday party. It is a dress up theme so he has to try and find the birthday boy amongst all the different costumes.
While I loved it as I love anything Spot, V was more concerned with the big bright pink cover than she was the story. But she was quiet while I read it to her so mustn't of found it too bad! At least she wasn't trying to rip off the flaps.
Of course you can open the letter addressed to you Spot! Why are these animal friends of Spot's dressed up as other animals? Also, Spot comes home without his horse and Mum surprised is that Spot comes home? Was she expecting him to stay out longer, or not come back at all?
Picked this up as i was researching children's books and remembered I used to watch Spot as a little girl :) In this story, Spot gets invited to a Party and spends it looking for his friends... I noticed, while reading the story, the subtle lessons in it for children, such as being polite. Spot says things like "May I..." and "Thank You" And the flaps in the book gives the child something to do, as if they were helping Spot look for things :)
This book is a good book for little kids. It has great illustrations as well as flaps that children can open. It is a good story that could be used for lessons on friendship and inclusion because in the book, Spot and all of his friends were invited to Helen's party.
