For the man named Plymouth killing has always been as easy as breathing, but this time he is responsible for saving a life rather than taking it. In the snow swept highlands of Scotland he is trying to keep a promise, a promise made to a man he classed as a friend. The girl called Anna has seen more death and destruction than any fifteen year old should ever witness and the scars run deep, horror permeates her young mind, and the blood soaked nightmares are never far away, but there is one thing she is certain about, demons exist and like her dead father she wants to slaughter them all. Slowly Plymouth realises that to help the girl he must share memories from his own harrowing past, memories he has kept locked deep inside in a well of pain and regret. Yet fate has other plans and a simple road traffic accident on the snow smeared lane sets off a chain of events that will see Plymouth and Anna hunted across the frozen wilderness by a psychotic drug dealer from Manchester and his Scottish counterpart. Yet when they kill the wrong man, they have no idea what they have unleashed, no idea of the fury that is about to rain down on them like an avalanche of ice-cold wrath. And despite his efforts to prove to Anna that demons don't exist, she suddenly realises that they are as real as they have ever been as she watches her protector, her teacher morph into a killer who cares nothing for boundaries or restraint as he hunts those who have taken something from him that can never be replaced. In Plymouth's world the killing will only stop when the guilty have paid in blood, no matter what the cost.

Rob Roughley lives in the North West of England (God's coal bunker, the land of the wedding cake made by placing three meat pies on top of one another and whippets on lengths of string)
He is the author of eight crime/thriller novels featuring DS Lasser. The novels are set between the run down streets of a northern town and the beautiful yet desolate west Pennine moors.
If you love your crime fiction crammed with square jawed heroes driving flash cars and glorious women who shimmer with inner light, then the DS Lasser novels are not for you.
However, if you prefer your characters to be flawed, with a sprinkling of dandruff and old acne scars, the plots to be laced with dark humour, then give them a try.

Memories - back in time!

This is going to be a difficult review to write, not in a negative way because it's an absolutely gripping read. It's the added emotions that play with your mind, emotions I never imagined in a book where the protagonist just happens to be Plymouth. The white haired and ice cold eyes of a killer, thankfully his targets are always evil or those that target the vulnerable. This one book 2 in the life and times of a complicated and what I'd call an assassin but he's much more than that!
.
It loosely begins where the first one finished, Plymouth has taken Anna, the adopted daughter of the friend he had just killed, up into the wilds of snow covered Scotland.
a journey which should have been straight forward and uneventful. But things don't go as planned, driving through heavy snow, treacherous roads and the stupidity of others, starts a chain of chilling event that would test the patience of a saint, and Plymouth is no saint! (Although to me he is)

No more about the story, you need to read it yourself as it reaches full throttle I was almost bouncing off the wall. It's heart stopping visual aspect this author is so accomplished at quite simply takes your breath away!
At last we have a first name for our delicious character, not going to give it to you, you'll have to read it yourself to find out, except to say I love it and he is definitely that name!
We learn about his past and tragedies that shaped his life, and turned him into the man he's become. Some may say a cold hearted killer and many are after his blood, but the ones who fear him and his reputation most are the ones who evade the law anyway!
His parents are also part of this story, also bringing heartache in the form of memories, that bought me to tears and explained so much about Plymouth's early life, his soft centre we never see!

This, my favourite author works your emotions to the extreme, in his usual expert way. I finished reading in the early hours of the morning, it was quite simply impossible to put down. Gripping, explosive, sensitive and everything in between, I absolutely loved it.

Thank you Robin, more please!

It doesn’t matter which series you read, Lasser or Plymouth, but you can be sure that your heart is in your mouth with each page. Robin has to be one of the best authors out, he gives you plenty to read, and keeps the old heart thumping!

I adore Plymouth and this book really should be read between (Lasser) Tears for the Living and Constructing a Killing, as this is the jam in the sandwich. It gives you the final chapter of what went on after Tears for the Living, and also an insight into Plymouth’s earlier life and family background. In my mind there should be more folk like him to take the scourge off the streets who just make peoples lives a misery.

Plymouth and Anna find themselves caught up in the world of Scottish and Mancunian drug dealers and the web of lies that Plymouth finds himself involved in, through no fault of his own, he finds he has to face his inner demons. Through the Scottish Highlands and bleak terrain Anna and Plymouth become the hunted, but the hunters don’t realise they’ve taken on the wrong man. The is only one way forward, they must pay for their crimes.

You can feel the cold and the bleakness that just adds to the atmosphere of the book. I felt cold myself, in the blizzard like conditions!

I’m so glad I saved it to read as a special treat, and because it wasn’t an ARC there was no time limit. I could just savour it.

Can’t wait for the next one.

Read the book you won't be sorry

This character Plymouth has popped up in one or two of robin roughley's lasser series ,but this is the second book with Plymouth as the main character . This one more or less following on from where book one ended ,with Plymouth looking after Annie his old friends adopted daughter .This time we find out more about Plymouth's family plus his Christian name,as usual it's not long before the white haired steel blue eyed killing machine attracts trouble and of we go into what seems his normal world of retribution and killing of all the bad people he comes across .I won't say anymore about the storyline as I don't want to give any spoilers but it's certainly a book you don't want to put down very sad in places and not a fairy tale ending , so if you want to discover more of Plymouth's family or his Christian name read the book you won't be sorry

Now we finally get a little background on Plymouth. His family and back story make interesting reading. This story is explosive, although halfway through, you can see who is going to do what to whom, but it's still a bloody good read.
Anyone who has rad my comments will know that I love anything to do with Plymouth or Lasser, either when they are on their own, or in a story together. My fear is that Robin will eventually run out of ideas, but I hope that isn't too soon. He originally told me that he had ideas for about 15 books, but now we are in our twenties, I am afraid that this great series of books may come to an end soon, although the last Lasser book was left a little up in the air with a lot of bad news.

This must be one of ~ if not THE ~ VERY BEST books Robin Roughley has written. Period.

WOW! So much insight into the human psyche; so much insight into the human soul. We ~ as readers ~ learn so much about Plymouth ~ but even MORE about what makes humanity 'tick'. Kudos, Mr Roughley, KUDOS! I am blown away (and I've read everything you've written!) I canNOT wait for Plymouth Book 3 ~ but if it's going to surpass this one, please don't hurry to simply churn it out! I'm hoping for another stellar installment . . . .

Yet another fabulous read from Robin Roughley!

Powerful and not for the faint hearted! This is probably one of the darkest of Robin’s books! A gripping story of past lives and present, of learning life’s lessons and retribution! Plymouth is a complicated character and in this book you discover why. Not to be missed read!

Great Book!

Shrive is gritty and has a lot of bad language but I love Plymouth. I read it in one night. Robin Roughley is one of my favorite authors. The book grabs you and won’t let go. Plymouth is a killer for hire but you root for him all the way. Now, I have to wait for the next Lasser book!

Wow !!

Yet again Rob has scored a hit. At last we learn more about Plymouth and his journey to now. Lesser briefly mentioned, so we get the sense he's not too far away either, but once again, read in one go, couldn't put it down, as is always the case with Robs books. Waiting for the next one, my default position.

Plymouth Is Sound And Strong.

Another hundred miles an hour tale from the reliable Robin Roughly with the main character born in the Lasser series.

Extreme violence and character descriptions are Mr Roughley's forte and this book is no exception. Difficult to put down and as with his other tales justice is served in the end.

Brilliant

A brilliant read, read this in 1 day. Plymouth at his best, however he shows some of the reasoning behind his character.
It really is a spellbinding book and another winner from Roughley.
Don’t miss it.

It was lovely to find out more about Plymouth including his name and to meet his parents as well. The storyline was great too although I think I prefer Plymouth and Lasser together they just work so well. Looking forward to another as soon as possible.

Wow!

I almost read the whole story in one sitting. The violence was upsetting, but entertaining. The characters disgusting. I like Plymouth. I have read all of Roughly 's stories and hope there are many more. Thank you!

This book is a great read by Robin Roughley, it gives you a chance to look into the life of Plymouth and his family, it also tells how he came to be how he was, and he only kills people who deserves to die, can't wait for the next book about him.

Hooked

So now we have Plymouth's back story. Bloody and violent but I was hooked. No wonder Ladder likes him - they are two sides of the same coin, only Plymouth is deadlier. Boh have a rage inside and they are akin to a photographic negative. Waiting for Book 3.

Riveting read.

I’ve enjoyed both of these Plymouth books more than the Lasser books to be honest ( even though I’ve read all 23 ). Great character and wonderful story telling. Plot was very slick and a definite page turner. Get some more done ASAP please.

Plymouth is fabulous

I truly enjoyed most of the Lassiter series, so I was so excited that the author decided to make Plymouth a series.

Warning, lots of violence and cussing. Not for anyone under 18 (my opinion).
