The Gopi Diaries is a series of three books for children about a dog called Gopi. Told in Gopi's voice, the first book, Coming Home, begins with Gopi going to his new home, and tells the story of how he settles down with his loving, human family. How Gopi sees the world around him and what he thinks of the people in his life give the story a truly unique flavour.
Written in Sudha Murty's inimitable style, these are books children and adults will treasure as the simple stories talk of basic values even when told from a dog's perspective.
Sudha Murty was born in 1950 in Shiggaon in north Karnataka. She did her MTech in computer science, and is now the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. A prolific writer in English and Kannada, she has written nine novels, four technical books, three travelogues, one collection of short stories, three collections of non-fiction pieces and two books for children.

This little book is so freaking cute and fun to read.
It's all about this puppy (actually a real pup!) Gopi which is being brought up in a very loving family of adults. Occasionally, Gopi does get visits from his human cousins Krishna and Anoushka.
Everyone just loves Gopi ever since they first set their eyes on him.
I mean who wouldn't! I fell in love with the colourful yummy illustrations! Love the art so much, dear artist, Sandhya Prabhat. Your art is so beautiful and endearing!
I love how this book spreads a warm message from the doglovers. It might seem like doglovers go overboard with the love, care and attention towards their pets but, believe me, our pets need them otherwise there's no point in adopting dogs or pets.
I love how it focuses on how to take care of puppies and taking the help of vets on how to take care of pets and not feeding them whatever we like or just keep them chained for the sake of keeping pets.
My heart is so happy, if my heart knows how to feel optimum happiness!
Love the writing as well. I mean who wouldn't love Sudha Murty's simple amazing writing!
I love the real pictures of Gopi towards the end of the book.
A dog autobiography? Is that even possible? Certainly, when we have an author like Sudha Murty. The book is written by the perspective of Murty's pet dog 'Gopi'. Gopi is a small pup who loves his mother and siblings; but he was taken away from them. Gopi then tells us how he felt after he was brought to his Ajji's house by his Appa. He was happy getting a new and caring family. Gopi talking about the environment in the house, the schedule and behaviour of each family member made me think if pets really think that way? (Cute! If they do.) The interaction between Gopi and his Ajja was the funniest of all. Every time Gopi tried persuading Ajja to play and got rejected in a hilarious way. Deep inside Ajja cared for him and surely melted for Gopi. Who wouldn't? A book written for children can also engage the adults. Not just children but every single person can start reading this book and get hooked until we realize that we are already at the last page. It barely takes an hour to read. But that hour is full of cuteness, kindness, zeal, smiles and laughter. Takes us away from the distractions of the world. Such a minimal book sharing pure joy and happiness to the readers.
Strange that I am reviewing a book meant for children, but this one is a cute read for all age groups!
The illustrations and the simple writing keeps any reader rapt.
On a personal level, this book reminded me of the bond my own Ajji and her dog, Tinku. I hope the two of them are at peace, in heaven: Ajji will probably be feeding Tinku his favourite curd rice!
Mid way reading this book with my 7yo daughter, she pointed out this book is too "kiddish". She asked how can the puppy understand what the adults were talking when it doesn't know what it means.
As the target audience didn't think too high about it, who am i to rate it? *Sigh*
PS: We got 2 of the books along with a coffee mug when Ms.Murty vistited along with Gopi at the Bangalore Lit fest. Meeting the real Gopi is one of the high points of my daughter's literary journey so far :D
''Sober- simple, cute-adorable'' This novella, written from the dog's perspective is truly an amazing work of Sudha Murty, how simply she has described the journey of ''GOPI'', the name of the puppy or you can say the protagonist of this book😛. Hardly took 20 minutes to complete this ''beauty'', was smiling continuously while reading it. Illustrations were cute, writing was simple and this book truly made my day. Sweetest book I've ever read . "Had a Happy READING'' . . P.S. Definitely not a children's book😚
For the month of June & July my daughters School Readers Club has chosen to read books by Sudha Murthy and being an adherent fan of Sudha Murthy she has already read three books and wanted to add new books by Sudha Murthy into her collections and that’s how we reached to this book and I happened to read this on last Sunday morning after my newspaper and I would say it’s a lite read but it got Sudha Murthy wonderful touch of creating extraordinary events out of ordinary life through her wits and wisdom
This time it’s not human, its Gopi a Golden Retriever Puppy who joins Murthy Family and its told from his perspective. As always Sudha Murthy showers’ the “Feel Good” factor and the add attraction of this books is colorful illustrations by Sandhya Prabhat .
Gopi the puppy is brought to his new home and settles in nicely with his human family.
Spoilers ahead.
I don't have much to say about this book other than how cute and wholesome it was. I didn't realise this book was going to be from Gopi's POV, I thought Murty was going to talk about how Gopi had affected her sort of in the same vein as Amazing Gracie. Gopi's antics were delightful to read about and the illustrations were lovely.
Book-3/5 Illustrations - 5/5 Having followed Sandhya Prabhat's work for a long time on her social media accounts, seeing her illustrations in books is just delightful; here too it lives upto it. Since this is a seires, the story however, feels like just an introduction and too short to be a book as it ends abruptly. Definitetly a good read for the targetted audience.
Sudha Murty is the author of Gopi diaries coming home. the book is illustrated by Sandhya Prabhat and is edited by Shrutkeerti Khurana. The book is about how Gopi got in Sudha Murty's family. I thank my mother to gift me this very special book.
This book is very cute and adorable. It's the story of an endearing journey of a puppy, from his point of view. We must have read a number of stiries about pets. But it is the first time that I have read something from their point of view. It is tremendous to know that how they feel, and how they reciprocate our love. What we hear as a bark, is what the puppy is trying to respond to our actions. So, it was lovely to read about his amazement, happiness and curiosity about the little new world. The book focusses, in a very warm way, on how to take care of animals just like other family members. The way, a kid needs to be understood, taken care of, and taught different virtues, this book deals with the way to do all this for puppies. They also need a proper training, filled with care. And the teaching of virtues is also must for them. The book is very beautifully illustrated by Sandhya Prabhat. The illustrations make you smile at the actions of the puppy, and Sandhya Prabhat has very well captured the cuteness of Gopi. Written in Sudha Murty's inimitable style, the book succeds in holding the attention of the reader. Though meant for kids, it is a wonderful read for people of all age groups.
I really wanted to see for myself whether Sudha Murty's books for children were as good as people said them to be, so I went for this one....
One chapter in and I was in love with the book!!
The book is written from the perspective of "Gopi", the author's pet dog and we follow Gopi's thoughts and feelings from his birth, to his arrival to the author's home and his initial days there...
The author has so beautifully portrayed all of the dog's emotions that it does not fail to touch the heart...
There are also some very catchy illustrations which only added to the already wonderful elements in the book...
I never expected the book to get so close to my heart... Nor did I expect Sudha Murty to be an equally amazing writer when it came to writing children's books...
I've made it a point to try all of Sudha Murty's books for children...
It was a beautiful experience reading this book and I am very glad I picked it up!!
Have never owned a pet after my pair of parrots had sad ending. But a dog, is always something I want. But sadly, can't accommodate one looking at my being in and out the city. Sigh. This book, added more to that crave. And absolutely endearing journey of a dog, who is named Gopi by his beloved Ajji.
Sandhya Prabhat's illustrations catche your eyes since very beginning. Absolutely cute and beautiful things on all pages, you fall in love with. And the words, (to be frank) this is my first Book of Sudha Murty. And, her language is so fluid and simple and engrossing that makes you finish the book in one sitting. I bought this for my 6yr old kid and instead of her, it's me who ended up loving it.
This is the first book in the trilogy of Gopi, the pet labrador of the family. The book is a short, easy read with cute and delightful illustrations that melt your heart as you flip the pages. This one is more enjoyed with kids around and to help them get closer to a lifelong friendship with an animal.
Even though we all prefer different genres like fantasy, horror, thriller etc etc, the fact is that sometimes we crave for something light like a children's book.
The Gopi diaries-Coming home by Sudha Murthy is a simple and light read and it's about a cute little puppy called Gopi. It's the first book in this series and it's the story about Gopi's life events.
When I finished this book, the first thing I wanted to do was to forget everything I had read and start all over again!! Even though I am afraid of dogs, I loved the puppy Gopi and he was adorable and so cute. It was really interesting to see the world through an innocent puppy's eyes.
This was my first ever Sudha Murthy's book and I am totally amazed by the author's writing style and her ability to develop a beautiful story out of a simple theme. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys short and light reads.
an absolutely sweet, sweet read :) I loved reading about Gopi's antics and how he understood the world and its people - definitely a sweet read that is not just for children.
as a teacher, I can attest to the fact that the book is also a great way to teach children so many elements of reading, and is a great and contextual book to start fiction reading with for young kids.
A real good one from Sudha mam. Bought it originally for kids - a short read for adults. Narrated in the pet dog’s words - enticing read. Well written. Well narrated. Couldn’t wait to get to the next 2 volumes.
Such a beautiful books....I mean I don't even have words....soo many things were going on in my head and this book just explained exactly what I wanted to..so happy to read this...I felt like a 3 year old again
This book is meant for the young readers. Yet this book equally makes all readers to like for the book is about a puppy, no more guesses read and enjoy. With her usual style author makes the reader enjoy the book. Equally good are the illustrations (colour).
*Important take from the book* - For you, your furry friend is just a part of your life, but for them, you are their complete life.

My Review - We all love to hold a cute little ball of fur and I suppose all of us did once in our life. So is this book about. It may be a memory down the lane and for some, it may be the inspiration to Adopt a little furball. The book is all about Gopi, Murty family's new four-legged member. She is sweet and energetic and loves being around her new family. The book is all about the journey from being born, to be adopted to relocation to a new place and how she manages her day to day adventure with the family and new visitors in their lawn. I'm awaiting more parts to come in future in the same series. Sometimes all you need is a cute little book on your furry friend.
