Fabulous book that might even convince some who are not dog-fans that there isn’t anything better than a canine companion! Hamilton doesn’t limit her tales to famous war heroes and rescue dogs, but stretches to dogs who perform amazing feats of athleticism and endurance and performance in the entertainment industry. Interspersed among the stories of 30 famous dogs are assorted timelines in hound history, lists of doggy facts and books, creative funnies and backmatter includes a glossary and websites for further information. Terrific black and white illustrations are present on nearly every page and created by numerous illustrators. Great resource that would fit well in a middle grades or even junior high library. Author Kimberlie Hamilton has also written a Fearless Feline companion to this Daring Dogs book. Thanks for the print ARC, Amazon Vine.

Parents of younger children who want to learn more about hero dogs, there are a few words/ phrases that may be problematic, for example "cocaine" and "death row".

Such a fun read though. I only cried a couple times... maybe a lot of times... worth it.

From stories of K9 war heroes, to guide dogs, to the dogs of royalty, this adorable book featured some of histories most amazing, little know dogs. Each dog had a two page spread, one page with text telling about the dogs history, and incredible deeds, the other with an illustration.

One of my favorites was Brandy, a New York police dog who happened to be at JFK Airport one day, at the right time to sniff out a bomb hidden on a plane. It was pure change, but it saved so many lives, Other dogs rescued troops in battle, stayed with them in POW camps, were service dogs to disabled people or the delivered medicine to needy children.

Each of these stories was just fascinating, and heartwarming. I only knew the tales of one or two of the dogs, so reading this was just a delight. Educational and entertaining. If you are a dog lover, or a history buff, or both, try this book.

One-page stories of notable dogs. I liked the stories, though they are barely long enough to have any depth. The art is cute. Most of the stories are followed by two pages of short paragraphs about similar dogs, or facts about dogs. I found those generally boring. Maybe kids, the target audience, would like them better. Now that I think of it, this would be a good book to read to, or with, a young child, with lots of opportunity for discussion.

The stories aren't quite long enough to really tug the heart strings. I actually found one page of dog facts to be the most entertaining in the book.

I feel like the only people who would really like this book the most are kids who are 100% dog obsessed.
