Jess Mastriani was on vacation when Amber went missing. Most people blame Jess for Amber's brutal slaying, but how could Jess-even with her psychic ability to from anyone, anywhere-have stopped the cheerleader from turning up dead, without having known she was even missing?

When yet another cheerleader disappears, Jess has a chance to redeem herself. If she can just find the girl before it's too late, maybe Jess will finally have a chance to be part of the in crowd. Except that it's starting to look like being "in" might just get you-not to mention your loved ones-killed. So much for popularity.

Really a 2.5 star read. I am really not that impressed with this series this time around, I don't know what it is. Maybe it's age. This one is just blah though, though there is a fair a bit of advertising for the early 2000's Espirit collection.

Meh.

Yeah, if you haven’t guest this is probably my least favorite out of the original one.

It just felt a little out of place to me in terms of the rest of the series. Honestly, in a lot of ways-serial killers and psychic powers aside-it felt like some of Cabot’s lackluster standalones set n the midwest. I really didn’t like how popularity played a big part of this storyline.

Yeah, popularity as a plot device rarely ever works for me in a YA book anymore.

Grant it, Jess really doesn’t have any desire to be popular.

But there are themes of it there that just annoy me.

The whole mystery plot is ridiculously easy to figure out. I think I knew as soon as the villain was introduced and made his whole speech (Captain Obvious much).

The good news though is we finally see a couple of developments with the Jess and Rob relationship, concerning Jess and Rob’s family. One thing I will always give Cabot a big plus sign for is that in most of her books the main character’s family plays a pretty big role.

This series is no exception.

I love how dimensional Jess’s family is and how none of the members are merely cut out characters. They all have their problems. And I really love her depiction of Douglass, Jess’s oldest brother. It’s not often we see a character in YA living with mental illness so I give her a plus for having him in here.

Okay. So that summary, taken right from the back cover of the book, makes it sound like Jess is trying really hard to get into the ‘in’ crowd. Um, no.

This book picks up on the first day of school. Jess is now a junior, and she’s determined to make a good start. She has a new wardrobe, and wants to have a new attitude [aka loosing her anger management issues], and won’t spend every day in detention. Hopefully.

That all changes as soon as she gets to homeroom.

This book, I have to admit, was a little slow in parts. Not enough that I considered putting it down, but it took over 100 pages to start getting into the plot. I loved reading about Jess and her troubles [I mean, being a psychic is a big responsibility. And a bit of a hassle, when the FBI keeps stalking you...], but knew from the back of the book someone else was going to be kidnapped. I was looking forward to the plot picking up its pace, and got a bit impatient.

I also have to say that I officially like Rob now. In the first book, I wasn’t sure if I did. Now, I think he’s a pretty cool dude.

Safe House gets 5/5 stars. Though it wasn’t as face-paced as I’d have liked, it still had me hooked enough to deserve full credit. Go check out this series!

Another excellent book in the series! I just couldn't put it down, probably the fastest I've ever read a book.

The plot was enticing (though the suspect was still a bit too obvious to me) and I find it hard to have anything negative to say about Jess and Rob as characters. Rob remains perfect, as usual. Their romance is really developing at a pleasing rate. Can't stop rooting for them!

Douglas is so adorable, really. Getting a job was A+ character growth.

Ruth unfortunately only continues to be more and more annoying as the series progresses. I still can't comprehend their friendship at all. Please grow on me!

All in all, and excellent 3rd book in the series! Starting the fourth book immediately!

**The first four books were put into 2 volumes and at the same time they were given a different series title —Vanished.

Let me tell you a story about a girl, maybe even a sort of hero, Jess Mastriani. She's quick with her fists —there is never any doubt about that— and that often leads her to trouble; usually in the form of another week of detention. More than that though, Jess is a loyal, quick witted, kind, just and hardworking girl and even now that I am older than her, I still look up to her and would be pleased to be even half as good a person as she. If I had read this book earlier in life, I do believe that I would be a different person. Nothing major, but I like to think that I'd be a little more patient, a little more kind, a little less patronizing. As it is, I'm working on it. Now do not get me wrong, I got my hands on this book series a while ago (over five years ago) and I will freely tell you, I have read this series over way more than once! Its one of my go to book series for when I'm bored or away from home and feeling lost or even if I'm gone for a day at the beach and need a good book. This series and I have been many places together; it's one of my many homes.

Jess got struck by lightening and now she can find missing people by simply looking a their picture. Next morning she wakes up and WHAM, she knows their current address. While Jess is happy to be able to reunite worried parents with their missing kids, her newfound powers do seem to come with a bunch of issues; including (but sadly not limited to) two FBI agents that won't leave her alone.

I could go on for days about this series but I am not going to. Give it a read (please!) and see what you think of Jess for yourself. She is well worth getting to know no matter how old you are. She shows character evolution over the series as a whole that, honestly, a lot of book series miss out on. This whole series is, without a doubt, a 5 star read.

I can't do this anymore. I just find it annoying how repetitive and insignificant some of the chapters were. Beside, Jess's obsession with Rob, I mean, seriously. Do we have to read every thought she has. She's acts too much like a baby instead of a sixteen year old. Not to mention how the author keeps stressing that Rob is eighteen and that it's illegal for him to be with Jess, yet he's like going to her house at two in the morning, throwing rocks at her window, please.
Then, there's Ruth, I mean, she's her best friend, yet she's hardly around and when she's there, she's acting all snooty. For someone with such a high IQ you would think she'd act like it and not like a total snob.
Jess starts off as funny and witty in book one, but now she's just annoying.
She wants to help people, and yet, she thinks one child a week is enough, I'm done. Besides, the evasiveness of the obvious situation ended my love for this series.

oh yes, so far, this book has been the best book of the series BY FAR!! i mean, the two previous books have nothing on this one. the mystery was so good! i was at the edge of my seat the whole time. this book basically had me in a chokehold, it was all i could think about. if you’re reading this series right now and the previous two books weren’t your cup of tea and you’re thinking of throwing this series aside altogether, DON’T! this book does not disappoint, i promise. you can thank me later! i honestly don’t know how sanctuary could possibly top this one, but we will see.

This is quite a fun book . Jess came back from Camp Wawasee , thinking she have get the FBI off her trail for once. But then trouble strikes when students from Ernest Pyle High been getting kidnapped and Jess had to save them, thus bringing the FBI on her ass again. It was quite a fun mystery read , although Jess is not as snarky and quirky as she been in Code Name Cassandra.

This is one of those “This series is t that great, why the heez do I keep reading it?” situations. I’d like to say I’m done and not gonna bother with the 4th one, but it’s Meg Cabot and we all know that’s just not true.

Things are starting to get real, way too close to home.
As usual, great story line and writing style (if some bits were slightly predictable). The ending has me looking forward to the next book.

This book is the sequel to Code Name Cassandra. It is about that when Jessica was on vaction, a cheerleader named Amber went missing and then turned up dead. Everyone blamed Jessica for Amber's death, since if she was there Amber could have been saved. The main suspect for Amber's death is her boyfriend, Mark. When another cheerleader named Heather disappered, Jessica is persuaded to find her. After a vision in the middle of the night, Jessica and Rob found Heather in a abondon warehouse. Heather was in a state of shock, not remember anything. When jessica went back to school, she was considered a hero. After piecing soome of the pieces together, Jessica figured it was Mark who killed Amber and kidnapped Heather; Amber was pregnate with his baby and she wants to get marry but he didn't want to give up his football career, so he strangled her. Since heather knew about Amber being pregant, mark tried to kill Heather too.

Jess Mastriani, comes back from summer break to learn that Amber, a girl from her school, has been murdered. Then another girl goes missing. Using her psychic powers discovers Heather, a cheerleader from her high school that was abducted. The feds are after her for her gift for finding missing people. Also, the school quarterback, and all time hottie, is pursuing her so he can keep her from discovering the truth about the murder and the abduction. But, her heart belongs to Rob, her motorcycle riding boyfriend who helps her solve the mysteries of each girl's case.

It's a romantic mystery. As is customary with meg Cabot, a chick-lit book. So, if you're a 14-yr-old girl, you'll enjoy reading this one. I wouldn't have read it now at age 24 if it hadn't been for a research assignment on Meg Cabot.

I really like this series, it's funny and entertaining with minimal irritation.

I'm kind of wondering, though....what's the deal with the cover? Jessie has short dark hair, so who the hell is that supposed to be? *Laughing*

These books are addictive. They're not too big, coming in or under 300 pages, but each story is great! This one is no different with intrigue and thrills to spare.

Buckle up, because "Safe House" by Meg Cabot is a rollercoaster of excitement, twists, and a touch of darkness that'll keep you on the edge of your seat. As the third book in the 1-800-Where-R-You series, it takes everything you love about Jess and Rob's dynamic and cranks it up a notch – delivering a tale that's both cute and chilling, and will leave you utterly captivated.

Jess and Rob are back, and their chemistry is as electrifying as ever. As they team up once more to tackle a string of abductions that hit close to home, their partnership evolves into something even stronger. Rob's protective instincts kick into overdrive, but Jess's determination to play an active role in saving the day sets the stage for fun banter and sizzling interactions that make their relationship shine.

This time around, the stakes are higher, with a murder and abductions sending shockwaves through Jess's world. Meg Cabot brilliantly weaves a plot that's rife with tension, mystery, and unexpected turns that will leave your heart pounding. The central mystery is just the tip of the iceberg, and as the layers of the story unravel, you'll be left questioning everything you thought you knew.

And oh, the plot twist! Just when you think you have it all figured out, Cabot throws a curveball that'll leave you reeling. Jess's journey takes a darker turn, unveiling the grave consequences of her powers not just for herself, but for those around her. The realization that trouble is closer to home than she ever expected adds another layer of depth to the narrative.

Amidst the suspense and action, the cute moments between Jess and Rob continue to shine. Rob's efforts to keep Jess safe provide moments of both amusement and adoration, showcasing the depth of his feelings for her. Jess's stubbornness and her refusal to back down create an engaging dynamic that keeps the pages turning.

"Safe House" is a testament to Meg Cabot's storytelling prowess. The book seamlessly combines adventure, romance, and unexpected darkness in a way that keeps you fully invested. If you're seeking a read that will tug at your heartstrings, keep you guessing, and leave you utterly satisfied, look no further. "Safe House" is a gem that brilliantly combines cute and chilling, delivering a tale that will leave you craving more of Jess and Rob's electrifying escapades.

"Amber Mackey's murder had done a lot more than rob us of Amber. It had turned the universe as I had once known it upside down and backward." (Jessica Mastriani)

Safe House has a darker tone than previous books in the Vanished/1-800-Where-R-You series. While Jess was on vacation, Amber Mackey, a cheerleader, went missing and was later found dead and Jess is blamed for not being able to find Amber in time. When another cheerleader is kidnapped, Jess sees this as a chance to redeem herself and tries to stop another murder from happening.

⛈️ Jess is a fantastic main character. She's smart, spunky and sassy. In Safe House, Jess dresses more fashionably and tries to control her violent tendencies. It's nice to read about her willingness to grow and develop.
⛈️ The mystery is extremely predictable and it's pretty easy to figure out whodunit.
⛈️ However, the story is entertaining and it's interesting to read about how Jess processes and deals with the information that she has in order to find the missing people and the murderer.
⛈️ The events that occur after Jess figures out whodunit is hilarious and entertaining. Serious things occur, but it's told in such a comical manner.
⛈️ Karen Sue Hankey is such a pain.
⛈️ Rob is a lovable and caring guy.
⛈️ I love the Mastriani family dynamics. We get to see more Mastriani family interactions and Jess's family seems so real.
⛈️ I'm also a fan of Jess's FBI sass.
"There was a strange silence. Really. I mean, not all silences are the same, even though you would think by definition - the absence of sound - they would be." (Jessica Mastriani)

Jess starts her junior year off roughly when she finds herself being blamed for a students death, a death she didn’t even know had occurred until home room on the first day of classes. Still everyone blamed her for not being around to have a psychic episode and find the girl before her death. Quickly the chaos that always finds its way to Jess begins. Karen Sue still has it out for Jess, making nasty remarks about her and her family. Jess finds herself with multiple unexpected suitors as well as the weight of another missing cheerleader on her shoulders. Allan and Jill continue to pressure Jess into admitting she still has her gift. This book is definitely my favorite of the series so far. The plot seemed a lot more cohesive, not that the first two books weren’t. It just seemed like all the pieces fit together better in this one. I also found my self at times surprised with some of the twists and turns that happened. Every time I thought I had figured out what was going on, new information unsurfaced or old information was given new context. Also I like the developments in Jess’s gift as well as her character. Douglas also shows a pleasant amount of character development and their parents, specifically the father are explored a bit more in this one. Definitely a good read.

Book 3 in the series. Jess continues to adjust to her new psychic abilities and the pressure from the FBI to come to work for them (finding criminals). Jess tries to maintain the lie that she has lost her gifts and has been successful in convincing the press so they have moved on. However, the FBI sees through her flimsy cover story and is closely tracking her every move. Jess returns from being at an isolated cabin trip to discover that a girl from her class in high school has been kidnapped and killed. And Jess is being blamed for her not helping to find her---even though she wasn't in town and wasn't aware of the situation. Then another girl goes missing---then the pressure is on. Jess has to decide between helping and keeping her 'ability' secret. At the same time, she is trying to figure out what is happening w/ the boy she likes.

As always the author delivers a very fun and entertaining story. The book is an easy, light read---but has some depth in the character development. The plot was creative (as always) and had some unexpected twists ---there is even one at the very end of the novel that sets up the next intallment. This was a worthwhile read.

I liked this story (book 3) more than the previous one in the series. It has a bit of thriller and "who dunnit" going on. But the series still has a weird mix of prudishness and ... whatever the opposite of prudishness is. Like, the relationship stuff is WAY tame, no kissing even. But there is swearing and girls getting murdered and creepy gross details. So I don't know how to classify this book. The main character is sixteen, so I guess it is YA, it's just weird the things the author tries to play down I guess. And I still love the author voice, but there was one section that had a bunch of sentences structured in a way that was hard to read. Like, "Eventually. Sure. Or they could, I supposed, just have asked me." Enough sentences like that in a row kicks me out of the story a little bit. But there was more than enough going on to bring me back, so, I liked it.

Oh, my word! This is book 3 in the Vanished or 1-800-WHERE-R-YOU series by Meg Cabot writing as Jenny Carroll, and this is, by far, the best one yet! It is thrilling and pluperfect (a word I learned from reading this book). 🤪 I can’t wait to start the next book in this five book series. I have read a LOT of Meg Cabot, but I think this might be her best series, after The Princess Diaries, of course!

Jessica Mastriani has a gift, one that seems to get her in a lot of trouble. Her temper also seems to lead to plenty of trouble, too! “I was not about to let my anger get the best of me. No way. I’d turned over a new leaf. It was already day two of the new school year, and guess what? I did not have detention. And I was not going to ruin this excellent record” (59). 😄 Jess is definitely a character you can’t help but love!

This has nothing to do with the novel but the cover design on this version is horrific. I have the old originals and they are beautiful.

This instalment of 1-800 is gripping but does have an obviousness to it. Bearing in mind I am a 35 year old, when I was 17 reading these I could also anticipate the way this way going but not nearly as easily.

I enjoyed the take no shit attitude of Jess. It kept things interesting to say the least.

This book is so cool! Even though the story is simple and somewhat predictable (probably because I’ve read enough Meg Cabot to find out how her plot twists work), it’s still amazing. I just love how Meg builds her characters, so special yet so relatable. Hopefully there will be more series like this. I seem to can never grow out of reading her books :))

I had actually forgotten a lot of this book so I enjoyed rediscovering it again. Fast and suspenseful I raced through it. I love Jess as a character as she is feisty and funny. The relationship between Jess and her brother Douglas is great and her protectiveness towards him constantly gets her into tense situations. A very good YA novel to re-read.

I'm currently re-reading comfort book series from my youth and this is one of them. As an adult the ramble writing can get a bit old but the nostalgia of this series gets me Everytime.

The ramble writing is getting worse but the third part to the series and the plot starts shifting in a way that's more mature for a high school setting.
