The story of an enigmatic 18th-century sorcerer whose work still influences occultists. This biography of Francis Barrett also describes his pioneering experiments in balloon flight and discusses his teachers and peers, and the subsequent progress of his disciples.
Francis X. King was an occult writer and editor who wrote about tarot, divination, witchcraft, magic, sex magic, tantra, and holistic medicine. He was a member of the Society of the Inner Light, an offshoot of the Alpha et Omega, which in turn was an offshoot of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
I wasn't really sure what to expect from this odd tome that I picked up from the occult shop, save that I thought it would be more than a slim collection of anecdotes. The author clearly knows a lot about Francis Barrett and individuals connected with him. And one can glean from the text that he was a singularly fascinating figure. However the text succeeds only in teasing one's possible interest in the man and his achievements (or lack thereof).
