A 30-something-year-old man, unhappy with his lot in life, once again, enters an old trail to meet a young attractive drifter. The two men, over time, developed a unique relationship. After receiving some life-changing news from his fiancée, the man plans to give his friend a new lease on life. This changes, however, when he stumbles upon a mysterious killer in the woods. Will the man attack, run or experience the fate that befell his friend and other victims?
Content warning for cheating, rape, cannibalism (? maybe).
A man in his early-thirties, going along with the life that was set before him all the while making plans to move in with his male partner, setting things up with the intention of giving the young man a stable life. Things take a turn when his wife tells him she's pregnant, with a mix of emotions and conflict, he goes out to the trail where him and the young man often meet for intimacy. He finds the least unexpected - the hungry man.
The concept of this story is intriguing enough, however when a short story tells you at the very end what it's theme is when it's more or less laying it out to you already in the closing half - that's not always a good sign. Specifically with how short this was, it's better to let the reader figure it out on their own. Which makes me wish it was longer because with more fleshing out, it could've made me feel more than just "oh, okay, that's the takeaway from this".
What the heck did I just read? Me and my mom listened to this audiobook together and it was way more grotesque than I thought it would be. We thought we understood the story right away though, but finishing it I am just really confused?
Would love to hear others thoughts around this book, but unfortunately there are not a lot of reviews around. I found this book super randomly in my audiobook app and had never heard of it before.
I am so conflicted?! It was pretty entertaining and fucked up and creepy, but I JUST WISH I UNDERSTOOD THE ENDING?! Who the heck is the hungry man? Either way, he is creepy as fuck, ugh.
There’s no audio listing, but I listened to this. The whole thing. Mostly because it was less than an hour at 1.25x and I was knitting, when I wasn’t laughing or asking wtf and sending clips to my gf.
