Author Giovanni “Johnny” Cirucci dissects history as no-one else can, making the astounding accusation that Rome has carefully created, enabled and sheltered some of history’s most sickening serial killers.
Volume I in a projected multi-volume set covers 54 A.D. to 1680 A.D. to include such notable murderers as “Bluebeard”, “Dracula”, Lucrezia Borgia and Bloody Mary Tudor plus several more you’ve never heard of but should have!
Be enraptured and shocked as Johnny exposes secrets only he would dare to dig into.
It is a difficult book to read at times. I'm not surprised by the details, though. Anyone who has studied the Reformation period shouldn't be surprised.
Cirucci pulls his his information on the various resources of the time period, although I question whether some of them are completely truthful due to the trustworthiness of earlier writings of this sort. I question any Wikki sources. The story history can drag out a bit at times, and there are a lot of names that appear. The text jumps around, making it hard to keep up with the various characters involved, other than the main ones. You will recognize many of the "elite" names, which is not surprising, even today!
You'll need a hard stomach at times, and sometimes you just have to set it aside for a bit, for it can be upsetting to some readers, especially those of the Roman faith. Many of that faith refuse to look deeply into past history events and even up to modern times, so it may be quite shocking.
I rate it three stars because I found it hard to follow at times. Cirucci does document the resources thoroughly and adds his comments periodically.
