Sexy ex-hockey player Max Samson is the bad boy with something to prove. Handsome single father Adam Carter is the man most women wait a lifetime for.
They each take bold and impulsive Lily Hamilton on a journey of self-discovery that’s woven with jealousy, deceit, and a whole lot of fun. Lily gets a glimpse of two versions of happily ever after, but will her own piece of perfect be the bad boy or the nice guy? In her quest to have it all, she’s risking everything, and only one thing is certain. She’ll never be the same.
Elizabeth Hayley is actually “Elizabeth” and “Hayley,” two friends who love reading romance novels to obsessive levels. This mutual love prompted them to put their English degrees to good use by penning their own. They learned a ton about each other through the process, like how they clearly share a brain and have a persistent need to text each other constantly. They live with their husbands and kids in a Philadelphia suburb. Thankfully, their children are still too young to read.

"I have endured the journey. I have withstood the adventure. I have learned that perfect doesn't exist. That, in reality, you're lucky to just get pieces of it. And that's exactly what I had, though I didn't appreciate it at the time. Now, I know better."
It has been a while that I have enjoyed reading a book THIS much! I devoured every single page.
"There is one thing I do know. Sometimes, doll, in our attempt to have everything, we find ourselves left with nothing.”
And as I write this review, I still can't get it out of my head.
Do I like love triangles? HELL yeah!!
The drama?! YES please!
"My point is that even though you may feel torn, you should take comfort in the fact that this isn’t really your decision at all. Love finds you . It’s not the other way around. The only choice you really have is whether or not you want to be found.”
Lily is a teacher who meets this HOT as fcuk guy on a plane. They share some pretty imitate moments and she doesn't give him her name thereafter...
"I guess sometimes it's good to have nothing. Then you know you have nothing to lose."
Only to find out a few days later he is some what famous and coming to teach at her school for a while. Meet Max!
They start a sexual relationship which is BLOODY HOTTT!!
"Is this what you fucking want? You want me to make you come like this? Huh?"
Then she meets Adam...
He gives her the emotional part of what she needs in a relationship...
"This was the happily ever after of my dreams. But, the problem with dreams was that they could quickly disappear once you woke up. And this is exactly how I felt sometimes after my dates with Adam."
And sex is also a bonus..
Now Lily likes them both in different ways...
"While I had found a friend in Max, I hoped I had found a boyfriend in Adam"
And she's playing with fire....
"This man knew exactly what I always needed: whether it was a friend, a phenomenal lay, or something that now seemed strangely in between"
Who will she choose?
"I was drawn to Max like a moth to light, but that attraction was shallow. The moth doesn’t need the light to survive; he just finds it hard to resist. But I was attracted to Adam for different, deeper reasons. Adam was my sun. He could help me to grow and live a life that would be fruitful. One that I could be proud of. I needed that. I didn’t deserve it, but I still had to have it. It was this thought that enabled me to justify the next lie that would leave my lips."
If you're a fan of the love triangle then this is the book for you. And boy does it start off on a bang!
Nothing like some HOT airplane/airport sex to start things off. Lily has just left her parents vacation home for the Christmas break. She's headed back to Philly when she meets Max in the airport. It's pretty much hate at first sight. Max is kind of a pig but despite that, Lily is still attracted to him.
After the sex-capade, Lily goes on about her life....they part ways, without Max even knowing her name. But Max isn't gone forever. Nope! He shows up at her school where she's a teacher. Max is the new hockey coach. Turns out Max is looking to improve his image after a few unsavory years in the spotlight.
So Max and Lily become f*ck buddies. And boy was it hot...in the press box, in the auditorium, in the car, on the desk. Wowzers! In the meantime, Lily also meets Adam...the father of one her students. Adam isn't the f*ck buddy type. On paper, Adam is perfect. He's sweet, loving, kind, gentle....and boy can he sext! Adam and Lily were equally as HOT together.
It's really hard at this point for me to pick a team. We really only got to see one side of Max...the troubled Max. We saw peeks of his potential but Lily never gave them a chance to explore that. The majority of the book is centered around Adam and Lily's relationship.
Will Adam and Max find out about each other? Will Lily ever give Max a chance at showing her that he can be good for her too? Does Lily choose Adam, knowing he can make her happy? Who will Lily end up with in the end??
Unfortunately, this was a bit of a cliffhanger/TBC ending. I had a pretty good feeling it was going to end the way that it did. And I honestly think that I am happy with the way things ended. There will be another book in the Spring continuing the story of Lily, Max and Adam.
For being a self-published book, I found this one really well written. It had the perfect mix of funny, sexy, and drama. I look forward to reading Amanda's book coming out later this year.
I'm honestly not sure what to think of this book. On one hand, it was really good and I couldn't put it down. But on the other hand...It really irritated me.
So I'll break it down...A book always starts with 5 stars with me. And over the course of reading, I adjust the scale to reflect what's happening in the book and my reaction to it. So, I started with 5, deducted a star for cheating (yes, I call it cheating) and another for the ending. So that leaves me with a 3. The only problem is...There were parts that I really liked. And I couldn't put it down. So, I'm going with a final rating of 3.5
Prior to picking this up, I didn't know that it was part of a series or even had a cliffhanger. I really need to start doing my research because half way through I found out about the cliffhanger. And by 20% it was more than obvious that it was going to be a love triangle.
Here's my issue with the ending...If I didn't know that there was another book, I could have written it off as...not a coming of age book, but more of a self-discovery type of book...with a couple of romances and some steamy scenes.
I wanted to like Lily and I did up to a certain point. But after a while, her swinging between the two guys bugged me. It wasn’t just seeing both of them, she was sleeping with both of them. She was cheating on the guy she claimed was her boyfriend. Add in the fact that she was a downright witch to the other guy and I just started to dislike her.
I can honestly say that I loved both guys…but one more than the other. If the book had only one guy in it, I would have been happy to see her get a HEA with either guy. But I’ll admit, I had a real soft spot for Max. I really felt sorry for him at times. Lily was downright awful to him. And I think he cared about her far more than she knew. I really wish there had been his POV in this book, because I would have loved it.
I’ll be interested to see if the next book picks up where this one ended, if Lily ends up with one of the guys from this book or if she ends up with someone completely different. Or…if the next book is about someone else. Either way, I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I’m frustrated and I’m angry. Straight up – I believe it is a cliff-hanger… well at least I hope it is, because I definitely need resolution!
This was a hot read love triangle. I’ve read ménage before but a love triangle is a new area for me. I’m not sure I’m entirely comfortable with it. The sexual tension was definitely in place between our three main characters. But in order to have a love triangle, there is cheating and that’s the part I’m conflicted with.
Lily, a 27 year old school teacher who is on a journey of self-discovery. Her journey to find that "perfect". Max is a sexy bad-boy ex-hockey player. He’s got all the right moves in the bedroom and let me say the sex between Lily and Max is ON right from the get-go!
“I am so conflicted. Max is really no good for me. He’s impulsive. And wild. I know that. But he brings out a side of me that I feel I need to hide.”
Then there’s Adam a handsome single father and architect.
Adam is….he’s just so good. He makes me a better version of myself. He’s everything I should love.
I could see what each man was offering Lily and if you had that special piece of both men, you would have a perfect whole instead of Pieces of Perfect.
My point is that even though you may feel torn, you should take comfort in the fact that this isn’t really your decision at all. Love finds you. It’s not the other way around. The only choice you have is whether or not you want to be found.”
If you don’t mind, lying and cheating and two deliciously hot sexy men – it’s worth the read.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Pieces of Perfect is the debut novel of Elizabeth Hayley, a writing team that consists of two friends, (Elizabeth & Hayley) who have decided to combine their love for reading with their degrees in English. With admittedly similar dirty minds their writing styles seamlessly flow into each other’s. This team writes as one would expect a seasoned author to and we are sure to see them on the best seller lists in no time.
The story is well developed as are the characters. The reader is able to place themselves in Lily, Max, and Adam’s world. When reading Pieces of Perfect one feels as if they are right alongside Lily when she’s teaching “at the zoo” or when she’s pinned up against a wall in an airport with Max inches from her body. As Adam and Lily experience an emotional connection that overwhelms them, we as readers feel the thrill of the moment with them. When Adam experiences pain, we feel as if we are standing next to him.
Elizabeth Hayley makes the reader fall in love with both leading men. I for one could not decide whom I was rooting for. Even after finishing this book and taking a few steps back, I’m still not sure who I would have chosen if I were Lily. First there is Max; he’s a super hot and sexy ex-hockey player with a mouth made for dirty talk. Max isn’t just a pro on the ice or in the sack; Max is a pro on an airplane, in an airport, in a car and in an announcer’s booth at the middle school where Lily teaches. Then we have Adam. Adam is stable and mature, a great father to his teenage daughter who just happens to be one of Lily’s students. Adam is not just a knock out under the sheets; he’s also the king of sexting.
Lily is a quirky chick not looking to get into a serious relationship, but also amazed by herself after having what she thinks is going to be a one off. She takes the reader with her on the emotional roller coaster of her love life. She is fun and likeable and draws the reader into her crazy world of love, passion and desire.
The love scenes are realistic, relatable and soldering H-O-T at first with Max while being sweet and romantic with Adam, until Adam kicks it up a notch and knocks all our socks off with his knack for words weather spoken or texted. As Lily said, Max might be able to bring her to an orgasm with his voice but Adam can surely do the same with his words.
I was sad that this story had to come to an end and I am looking forward to the sequel and further writings of this dream team. Pieces of Perfect is anything but pieces, it is 100 % perfection! When these ladies make it to the big time I for one will be honored to say, “I read Elizabeth Hayley when…”
Well aren't you two ladies clever clogs !! I thought this was a fabulous book, and our writers certainly got us hooked on both the leading men Max the ex pro hockey player and Adam the single parent to 12 year old Eva, who just so happens to be a pupil of the leading lady Lily. Both men sound completely gorgeous, so I understand why Lily had such a hard time , but really she should have made up her mind and stuck to it. This is a love triangle between the three of them and I'm not going to say what happens except I think Adams reaction was completely spot on. The book is a humorous read but you can definitely see what's coming !! Some brilliantly written HOT sex scenes can't wait to hear what happens to Lily in the next book, but it's so long till spring 2014 !!!! Great first book ladies.
Ok I was not sure about this book until about 90% into it...But there was something that told me to keep reading, keep experiencing and keep getting turned the fuck on because my GOD was the SMUT fucking HOT!!!
GeeeSUS there was a fire in my PANTS!!
This book starts out with a literal BANG... At first I was like whaaatt... This isn't real life (well duh it's fiction) but come on this is stretching it a bit much. But then I was like whoooaa this is totally effing HOT (no longer giving a fuck that its not real life)...
So I get into the story and me being me never read the synopsis because I like to be surprised. Now I am regretting this decision because FUCK its a fucking LOVE triangle... UGGGHH I hate love triangles they make me want to kick kittens and babies everywhere (no, not literally). So I am mad that I didn't read the synopsis but I am totally invested in this book, I can't put it down. But I am hating the heroine, Lily, but I still cannot put it down. I'm entranced, I need to see what happens.
Reading on, I am still hating Lily and her stupid ideologies about her future and what she wants in a man. She can't be with one because he is reckless and bad for her but yet she can have sex with him whenever, wherever??? And then hates it when other woman treat that particular leading man like garbage but she is doing the same thing??!!
Ugh it was so frustrating...
But Max and Adam are totally taming my rage and making me want to cream my pants from their dirty, dirty mouths... WHooOAa baby!
Then...THEN...
I get to the end and I was like YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I seriously LOVED the ending of this book!! FINALLY, a fucking love triangle with an ending that is fucking believable!! I felt vindicated but I also felt emotional and wanting more of Lily... Yes, the cunt grew on me by the end and I wanted to see what was going to happen...
No HEA for this book so you HEA lovers will probably shit bricks but I LOVED it... It made me believe more in the story, completely turning it around for me. Instead of the authors giving readers what they expected the authors flipped it around and ended it... perfectly.
I just, wow... seriously this book was great..
There were some scenes that caused my brain to malfunction... I mean, sex in the auditorium with kids on the other side of the curtain I think that was taken a little too far. Totally, wickedly, HOT and probably in some porn somewhere... BUT still set my nerves on edge and made me a little sick.
I give this book a 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who loves some great SMUT with a Love Triangle and some snarky banter that leaves you in complete stitches from laughing so hard.
Two words: Disgusting and Shallow. I was going to give the book only a one-star rating but since the end was really good, I think it deserves another star. This book has excellent reviews on Goodreads and I honestly don't know why. Lily, the female lead character is a slut and Max, her friend with benefits is a man whore!(Sorry but I can't think of better words to describe them) Adam, Lily's boyfriend saves the face. He's a good and stable guy and he deserved much better than Lily. Actually, even Max isn't that bad and he deserved much better as well! A few points: 1. Who the fuck let a stranger finger her on a plane and then bang her in an airport? 2. When Max says, you're not an easy lay to Lily and that he had to work for it. Can you remind me how much work he had to do? 3. And when he says that Lily is a good person, what is good about her? Personally, naming one quality would be difficult. 4. How can anything, and when I mean anything, it's really every single thing, turn on Lily? How old is she again? This book was beyond annoying and I skipped Max and Lily's 'rendez-vous' most of the time. The ending was great though. I love it that Lily got what she deserved. And I sure as hell won't be reading the next book, because I really wanna believe that she ends up alone with seven cats and miserable!
"..you should take comfort in the fact that this isn't really your decision at all. Love finds you. It's not the other way around. The only choice you really have is whether or not you want to be found."
Pieces of Perfect by Elizabeth Hayley had me from the first chapter! I had no idea what I was in for reading this book but I was pleasantly surprised how much I LOVED this story! You know from the blurb that this is going to be a love triangle, which to be honest, isn't my favorite plot lines, and I ate up every bite of this scrumptious book!
Pieces of Perfect was HOT (right from the beginning) but it also made you stop and think about what you would do in Lily's shoes. Sometimes love isn't cut and dry, sometimes you find yourself facing really tough choices and there is no right or wrong answer. This book really was well done and gave the reader a lot to think about. Elizabeth Hayley did a great job breathing life into Lily, Max and Adam's stories and I never could bring myself to pick a "team" I fell in love with both of them.
My emotions were all over this place with this one, I was mad, happy, frustrated, shocked, heart broken and then satisfied. Pieces of Perfect is one of the best love triangle books I have read, it handled things realistically and let the reader get inside what Lily was going through without her coming off like a heartless and cold person.
Elizabeth Hayley make quite the writing team! I am addicted to this story and I really hope we get more from these three characters in the future (but if we don't I am OK with that too). Pieces of Perfect is definitely a story that will be sticking with me for days to come. I HIGHLY recommend this book, it will get you thinking about life, love and airports. Go 1-click and enjoy this emotional ride with Lily this weekend.
Oh Wow! I couldn't put this down! The writing was great and it provoked such emotions. I loved Adam....looooooooved Max and HATED Lily! At first I thought she was kind of funny and cute but that lasted for about 3 pages and then I found her to be immature and selfish. I wouldn't be able to choose between Adam and Max myself LOL. I did lean toward Max though. When Adam first appeared I thought he sounded too good to be true and there must be something bad about him but there was nothing. He was perfect!!! However, there is something about the bad boy that always gets me. I think that Max would have been everything to Lily if she was smarter! When he says "doll" I think I sighed each time! I am kind of glad it ended the way it did for Lily however I don't think the story is complete and I sure hope there is more. I need more Max (or Adam) oh heck either one will do!
My favorite line from the book was from Max:
"There is one thing I do know. Sometimes, doll, in our attempt to have everything, we find ourselves left with nothing.”
Also this is a good one...I think a lot of people can relate to this in one way or another:
"I have endured the journey. I have withstood the adventure. I have learned that perfect doesn't exist. That, in reality, you're lucky to just get pieces of it. And that's exactly what I had, though I didn't appreciate it at the time. Now, I know better."
ARC kindly provided in exchange for a fair and honest review. Spoiler-free review. 4 stars.
First off I want to say that I love that this book was created by a writing team comprised of two friends - Elizabeth and Hayley.
I got sucked into Elizabeth Hayley’s debut book Pieces of Perfect from the first few pages. While I was reading PoP I felt like I was watching a car accident as this hot love triangle unraveled. You know the “I can’t look away” feeling? What a rollercoaster. Arghhh… I stayed up all night reading PoP. Initially I was hesitant to read this book because I don’t like reading about cheating situations. Lucky I got over it enough or I would have missed out on such a solid book. Pieces of Perfect was funny, sexy, smart and oh sooooooo steamy. PoP also irritated the hell out of me…well Lilly, the anti-heroine poster girl irritated me. I have to say I did want her to get it together and cut self-destruct crap. Again...arghhh. I was thinking about this book and the characters days after I read it. There is a slight cliffy…which I expected. I’m looking forward to downloading the next two books by this kick ass writing team. I have a feeling I can expect some more Kindle Crack from them.
The love triangle created between Lily, bad boy Max, and perfect Adam in Pieces of Perfect does not disappoint! The young and impulsive Lily finds herself in the terribly awesome predicament of falling for two wildly attractive guys who could not be more different save their determination to have her. What begins as light-hearted flings soon evolve into relationships that take Lily on an unexpected emotional journey as she begins to uncover who she really is and what she really wants in life.
Well-written with plenty of spicy love scenes that just get better as the relationships between the characters deepen, this book will have you flipping pages to find out what happens next. Be prepared to feel as tormented as Lily does when it comes to choosing between which hot guy to settle down with. Decisions, decisions!
I think what I enjoyed most about the book was that it broke a lot of rules when it comes to the kind of romance story line that we're used to. The authors have allowed Lily to make questionable decisions commensurate with her age and background, but not without consequence. The book's ending is unexpected, but it's one that serves its heroine and with a sequel on the way, I'm eager to see how Lily grows and faces her future.
I am sooooo torn. I really wanted to give this more stars, it was very well written I loved Max, I loved Adam but lily!!!!! I really, really disliked her. She was a complete cow to both guys. I think I am also so fed up with love triangles. I actually think you should have done two separate books, one for each guy as they were both great I. Completely different ways. By the end I really felt the guys were both better off without her particularly Max who strangely enough I felt worse for than Adam? the scenes at his parents house just broke my heart. I do love a bad boy and I hate a door mat which I felt you turned Adam into. I was glad with the ending she deserved neither of them and finally seemed to realise she got exactly what she deserved.
PS as a teacher I cannot believe the amount of time lily seemed to have to make out with max!!!?! OMG I think I worked at the wrong schools. I didn't think this was at all realistic.
Book Pairing:- M/F Did it give me a book hangover :- No Is this a review book or personal read :- Review book.
Why I chose this book?
I was asked by the author to do a review.
What I liked about this book.
* It kept you guessing all the way through. *Max's imagination. *The story was fun and hot. * This book is written by two authors but you couldn't tell who wrote what. It flowed so well that you would have thought that one person wrote it.
What I didn't like about this book.
* I don't think the cover does the book justice.
Would I read more from this author?
Yes
Would I recommend this book?
Yes to those that need a bit of heat in there books.
Seriously, one of the best books I ever read...every girl should read it! Yes, because it does contain two hot, loving, irresistible guys...yes, because it does contain sex....yes, because it does contain romance...BUT: it also contains a huge message to women! I think every girl comes across a guy like Max once in her life. Passion without reason...and then the other side: Adam. Reliable, loving, tender. Who to choose? Personally, I loved the ending! While mostly all romance books feature a happy ending nowadays (of course I was disappointed somehow), it's got a refreshing twist! So remember: at the end of the day, do the things you can live with the next morning!
Is this a cliffhanger? Will there be another book? Please tell me there will be another book .....PLEASE!!!
Lots of depth and growth along with hot and steamy love triangle can be found in this book. I really thought Adam was wonderful, sexy, irresistible and a true knight in shining armor BUT Im TEAM MAX all the way. Max is real. He put it all out there for Lilly and I loved that about him.
My only hope now is to find out that this story will be continued SOON.
I read this book in one day and was hooked from the beginning. It was really refreshing to have a story that had a realistic ending and not the usual prince charming ending with everyone living happily ever after.
Looking forward to reading more from this author and I would highly recommend this book!!
Felt very juvenile and silly. If a man approaches you in an airport the way this man did you should call security. I loathe books that exempt a man from behaving like a pervert because he is "hot". Nice abs and a "big" package does not a real man make! Couldn't get past chapter two... very unlikable characters...
I would have enjoyed this if there's no Adam, love triangle isn't my thing and never will be.
I skipped, A lot. Since... well, Adam. He's boring, I didn't even read their love scenes coz, hello!? I love Max and I know that she's gonna end up with Max and reading her love scenes with Adam was just...gross.
41/2* Wow. I loved this book. I'm not happy with the ending... but I think I seen that a 2nd book 2 is coming out. Fantastic... I was a bloody mess reading the first one,I'm sure the 2nd one wont disappoint. Great work ladies.
I can't come up with a way to review this without massive spoilers, so I'll hide most of it.
I really enjoy this writing duo. This is an emotional read but in a voyeuristic way. I smirkity smirked smirked my way through this cusp of self discovery drama fest and loved it.
I admit, I fell a little bit in love with the ladies of the Elizabeth Hayley team I would go as far as offering to do your laundry so I can get another book a bit faster. I have a very short list of Indie authors that I would say that about, but you two ladies really entertain me on multiple levels.
I like the mindful ease of your stories, delivered with a dash of humor and relatable feelings and flaws. Great job, ladies
Okay, so I just began this book, and I’m already loving the character of Lily. She’s so funny! Saying exactly what she feels with that colorful lewd language of hers. She reminds me so much of my sister, in that respect, that I’m constantly laughing out loud. She gets herself in quite a quandry when she has sexual relations on and off an airplane with a total stranger. He’s hot and well-endowed. He’s got such a sexy smirk while knowing that he’s “all that”. How can she possibly turn this hottie down?
Oh, wow, and the author references Charlotte”s Web! One of my two all-time favorite kids’ books next to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I’m a fan for life!
The pace of this novel is fast. What or who would Lily chose? Max or Adam? Max the gorgeously masculine hockey player? Or, Adam the beautiful single dad that’s confident and caring while just trying to raise his twelve-year-old daughter the best way he knows how? Loving this book so far about 25% into it... Adam the boyfriend? Or, Max the best friend? Who will she chose when everything is said and done!
After Chapter 27, I felt some tears coming on because Max was deep down such a nice guy and Lily was finally starting to realize just what she had with him. It was beyond friendship. He didn’t judge her or try to change her. He accepted her for who she really was – flaws included. And, now she had a huge decision to make. Who’s the better man for her? Reckless fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants Max? Or, predicatable stable Adam? Both men gorgeously appealing. But, who had her heart? Who could she see herself waking up with each and every day in the future? I think that her decision will finally be made when Max’s five months as Swift Middle School’s hockey coach is up. Should be interesting! I wouldn’t want to be Lily having to make such a grueling decision. My bet, though, is that she’ll chose Max. So, we’ll see when I hurry getting to the last page of this awesome book. Loving this newly released book from first-time author, Elizabeth Hayley.
I wasn’t too crazy about the ending until I thought about it more. Yeah! That fits. I desperately wanted for Lily to make the right choice. I now understand why the authors chose the ending they did. It was to make a point that Lily had to think about something she deserved for herself. She was kind of forced into her choice.
“I have been shaped more by Max Samson than by any other person on this earth. He taught me that it is okay to have desires and primal urges. It is okay to make your own rules, as long as you can bear the consequences. He taught me that it is okay to just be Lily. I am forever thankful to him for that.” ~ Lily
Unfortunately, Adam couldn’t teach her any lessons. It was as simple as that. I loved the way the authors described the two men – Max being the “knight” and Adam being the “prince”. It’s so true about needing the wild “badboy” to get to the stable “goodboy”. But, Lily just went about it the wrong way. She lied. She knew it was wrong, but she did it anyway. Repercussions were just waiting around the corner in due time. It was inevitable as to the outcome. Who did she ultimately chose? Well, it was definitely not the ending I had seen coming. Life works in mysterious ways, and for poor Lily, I’m sure that this wasn’t the ending she envisioned either.
The book was so fast-paced. Kept you on your toes. What would be Lily’s next dilemma? What wild and wacky place would she be performing her next lewd sexcapade? And, when it came to the sex, damn! It was off-the-charts! Scorching. Imaginative. Wild. Erotic. Passionate. Her and Max were, together, a force to be reckoned with. She could be herself with him regardless if it was under the sheets or in an everyday setting. But, sex with Adam was more intimate. More personal. He was definitely “happily ever after” material. Whereas Max, was just a good time – at least it started out that way.
All-in-all, this was a fun outrageous novel. The characters were magnetic and likeable. The storyline was crazy excellent. And, the ending was just shy of perfection. Can’t wait to see what these impressive authors have up their sleeves for their next novel. I will be patiently waiting...
I am so not a fan of the "love triangle". I just don't buy in to them. I always find there is always that one in the triangle manipulative and selfish. They are also very difficult story lines to pull off. What can possibly come from them? There is always going to be some one hurt whether by their own doing or as an innocent.
With that said, Elizabeth Hayley did an amazing job putting a very different and unexpected spin on the story.
I loved that she did not tie it all up in a cutesy little bow, spray some perfume on the stink of the situation, and best of all, was not afraid to make her heroine look less than ideal.
If karma had a name, it would be Lily Hamilton.
Boy oh boy was she unlikable. And as the story went on, I was disliking her more and more. She invoked all kinds of feelings in me.
Lily is grown woman, educated, a professional, comes from a good family, though a pushy family, but good background. Absolutely no reason for her to be making the poor and self destructive decisions she was making except for the fact she is a selfish. In Lily's quest for the journey of self discovery, she systematically hurts two very different men she has involved herself with.
As for the gist of the story, Lily meets Max Samson, a former professional hockey player. He is seriously hot, dominant, and just pure excitement. She has an impromptu "one night stand" in the airport on her way back from visiting her parents. Lily feels guilt and confusion after but slowly comes to terms with it until Max crosses her path again, as the new hockey coach in the school she teaches in. Initially Lily is hostile towards him but she quickly changes her feelings with a "why not" attitude. She is sexually attracted to him so why not just go with the flow of their odd little relationship.
I loved Max. I found him to be very misunderstood and there was just so much more to him then meets the eye. He was the epitome of the bad boy and I believe he truly cared for Lily. But Lily didn't want everything with him. It was just a "journey" so she thought.
Enter Adam Carter. Single parent of one her students. Adam is definite marriage material. Handsome, kind, giving, an architect, just all around "pieces of perfect".
Lily and Adam start of in a very typical dating fashion. Their relationship moves along very nicely and Lily really likes Adam. The only problem, she is still involved and having sex with Max.
Basically, you know what is going to happen. Lily does her damnest to keep the two of them apart without being honest with either one of them. She goes with the lied by omission, just leaving out the important things. Not a smart move and seriously makes her look very bad. The situation is a train wreck waiting to happen, but you just can't look a way because you know it is not going to be good.
I loved the ending. It was realistic and justly deserved.
Pieces of Perfect has to be the best love triangle story I have ever read. The author did a great job with the flow and the unrolling of the story line. By the end of it, I was so riled up with Lily and to me her actions were just unforgivable that she got exactly what she deserved!
There are consequences to all actions and decisions is definitely the moral to the story.
Pieces of Perfect is on tour November 11 - 16th, hosted by Grapevine Tours. Stop by for spotlights, reviews, and giveaways.
I received this as an arc in exchange for an honest review.
What can I say? As you can see I loved it as I gave it 5 stars, it had be from hello basically. 1% in and I was this has me written all over it! The thoughts and words Lily the main character has are sassy, witty and some are damn right hysterical! I was lol and highlighting within an inch of my life!
When Lily meets Max, a Hot ex-professional Hockey player at the airport, he is cocky, self assured, arrogant, flirty as hell and turns lily on despite her efforts!
Well, who could resist, Lily doesn't, the things he does!! The cheeky Boy! But it is only a one time thing right?
Back home, running late there is a queue at the coffee shop and this first introduces her to Adam, the second....yes ! Second man candy in this book....we are spoilt.
Anyway.......i want to go on and on but I won't.... Max ends up at the school she teaches in, he comes to coach Hockey, Adam is a parent to one of Lily's students and Lily well, she can't decide who she likes, so what self respecting woman wouldn't sample from both menus?
Totally different from each other, Adam being the family man and Max being the ex playboy type, sports star, women chucking themselves all over him! ( Hell I'd smother myself in honey, take a running leap and hope I stuck myself! ) with a bad rep...... Who do go for? I know who I wanted Max....all the way, he was my fav, he was soft in the middle, he could have given her everything Adam could,......
But, when you have your cake and eat it, you are going to get messy crumbs, oh my heart broke, I had some teary eyed moments in this, Lily did wrong....she owned it though, she knew she did, I guess she thought they were both on the same page....friends who had awesome benefits!
The ending..... I loved the ending. Why, because it wasn't a cheese fest! It wasn't what I was expecting and I love to be tortured every now and again lol
This is hotter than hot and I mean that! It is a steamy but with pure freaking chemistry that smokes! I was choking on it! And that was with both men.....although i painted Adam as a family man, that doesn't mean he don't get his Tiger on when his Daughter isn't at home!
So funny I had a five minute laughing fit when I read two quotes out to my hubby, they reminded me of something I would think / say..... I am a twisted b*tch sometimes so others may not get the same reaction! but kids in the coffee shop is one scene and ''Sloppy" in a Club is another.......
