4...Ended on a amazing note...Cults, FBI breaking rules to take them down...what more could a girl like me ask for...less family drama, it actually wasn't as bad this time! Really, fast-paced! Enjoyed this series overall!!
Not a lot I can say that I haven't said in all the previous books. This one was about murders of young women and what tied these women together is they were apart of a religious group that lived on a compound of many acres and they were gated and kept behind gates. There were about 1,700 people that belong to the commune. There has been many problems with the commune over the years but when the police try to investigate the leader Marshall Cole gets the press involved and starts yelling his religious freedoms are being attacked. He knows how to work the system and he does whenever he needs it.
I have watched shows where this religious group where men marry however many women OR actually girls (VERY VERY YOUNG GIRLS) they will marry 3 to 6 or more girls and with this group in the book they "try the girls out" these pigs, I mean men, will line up and try the girl out before the actual husband gets her. If they break rules or try to leave they get publicly punished in front of their whole group. Striped down and beaten with whatever they have in their hands. Then after the beatings a line of men will gang rape this poor girl to teach a lesson to anyone who ever thinks about talking back, breaking a rule or trying to run away.
Someone in this commune has figured out who is running and when and they will somehow find her and they bash in their heads then tape their mouths shut and leave them as a message to everyone.
Mackenzie and Ellington will not stop until they find who is doing this. Even though Mackenzie and Ellington are now married and should not be working together they were allowed to work one last case and this one has made Mackenzie so sick. She wants to attack all the men in the commune for their chauvinistic attitudes and their blatant disregard for anything that Mackenzie has to say because she's a woman and needs to know her place. She is beneath them and they make sure she knows how little they value her or the questions she's asking
I don't enjoy books with this content due to the fact I know this is happening in the world. Maybe not the way the men are punishing these women but I know these religious groups are out there and the men get to have multiple wives in the name of religion but I still don't support these groups or their way of living or thinking.
The best part of this book and helped soften the content was the 2 grandmothers watching Kevin. Mackenzie's and Ellington's baby. Neither woman had met each other and they way they dealt with things was fun but we only heard a brief bit of the situation in the middle of the book. More detail was given in the epilogue
I do recommend the book because it's part of the series but if this was a standalone I would say skip it but again that's my opinion and only because of the subject matter
For not having to much to say on this book I sure managed to write a TON :D :D :D
Continuing to love the Mackenzie White series! I love that Blake has been able to continue it so far that we see not only her career progressing but also her personal life and growth in both aspects. In this installment, Mackenzie starts to branch into a potential relationship with her mother, but before that can happen she’s called upon to work a case in Utah involving murdered women that seemingly don’t exist. I enjoyed this book in particular from the series because it touches on a realistic scenario involving the polygamy in Utah that we see in the news from time to time. Without giving anything away, it was a really great read and I am eager to get my hands on the next book from Mackenzie! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I was glad that we had a bit of light heartedness at the start of this one with both Mackenzie and Ellington's mothers showing up, trying to out Grandma the other. It also helped when the two got called out on a case, instant babysitters.
The case the two worked on was bad and got worse as things went on. The more that Mackenzie found out about the group, the more it seemed things were off. The big show down at the end was so crazy! I didn't expect to find out what we did and somehow it seems worse, so much trust broken.
The ending had me smiling, from the "dressing down" their boss gave them to the email that Makenzie got, it was all worth it.
Arguably the best one yet! It’s giving Netflix’s Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey but darker and even more sinister. The entire series gets a solid middle of the road 3 ⭐️ from me. Were there times where I was fed up with Mackenzie? Absolutely. Did I have enough of the audio narrators sing-songy chapter intros? You bet. Would I recommend? Ehhhh. But at the end of the day I didn’t completely hate my time here. Goodbye Mackenzie White!
This entire series great quick read. Not always obvious who the villains are. I love the fact that Blake Pierce books leave out the graphic sex, it's ok to leave that information to the reader's imagination. Only issue is the typing errors, so many in every book and they can be distracting. If this book #14 ends this series it ends in a good place. Of course I would be glad to see it continue.
This book keeps you guessing from beginning to end. Many twists and turns from beginning to end. A can’t put Dow book. Recommended to those that like mystery and suspense.
Another exciting story in the Agent White series! This one about murders of women in a cult called the Community. MacKenzie and Ellington work so well together to solve these brutal crimes.
I absolutely loved this last book! It had so much action and drama! Mackenzie finally got everything she ever wanted from the beginning of the series! I wish I could read it all over again for the first time!
The book was okay. I give it 3.8 stars. I’m only reviewing it because something is getting on my nerves.
We are on book 14. Where is Ellington’s daughter by his ex-wife? Does he call her whenever he can? Do they FaceTime? Has Mac met his ex? Do they get along? Does Mac ever ask about his daughter from his previous marriage, or is she just happy that Ellington’s whole existence is about her needs? Does his daughter come to visit them? Does his ex and daughter live in a different state? Does the ex have sole custody? Does Ellington go to visit her? When was her last birthday? Did he attend the party? Does he ever have a father/daughter day with her? Does he ever pick her up from school? Has she met her little brother? Does she miss her dad who has abandoned her? Why does Ellington act like Kevin is his only child? Why does Ellington’s mother act like Kevin is her only grandchild? Does she know that she has a granddaughter? Does she check on her at all, or is she as obsessed with Kevin like everyone else, and has forgotten that she has a granddaughter somewhere? Did Ellington’s daughter die and he just chose not to mourn her?
I mean, its one thing not to want to talk about your ex-wife, but your daughter? I’m not sure how the writer could overlook such an important part of Ellington’s life. We have so far gotten to know both Mac and E’s mothers (both women who we suddenly learn have likeable traits in spite of the negative narratives surrounding them from previous books), but we have yet to know anything about this poor girl and how she’s coping with all the changes in her life. It all makes Ellington look like a sad excuse of a father. And now... SPOILER ALERT!!...
They’re trying for another baby? That poor girl might as well not have been born.
