Cameron “Hurricane” McAdams’ life implodes when his wife and son are killed in a car bomb meant for him at the hand of the Morales drug cartel. Seeking solace on the wild coast of Maine, eighteen months later he meets historical romance author Brianna Birmingham when she moves into the cottage on the beach below his Victorian. The thunderstorm that throws them together one night is mild compared to the tempest raging between them. Just as Cameron succumbs to his heart’s desire, his past returns with a vengeance. Morales tracks him down and makes his move, leaving both Cameron and Brianna seriously injured. While they are recuperating, they are separated, leaving Brianna brokenhearted and Cameron struggling to live without her. Waiting for Brianna seems to be the only thing he can do because moving on without the woman he loves is not an option.
Cute story... Cameron's family have been murdered in a car bomb meant for him and set by members of the drug cartel in which Cameron has put members of behind bars. He secludes himself in a quaint little beach cottage in Maine and it is there that he has sentenced himself to rot in his own misery. Little does he know that Brianna, a very talented but also very slow writing author has moved in next door in an effort to put some distance between her and her best friend who has fallen in love with her. Neither Cameron or Brianna could have possibly known what was to happen next. This book is very cleverly written with lots of twists and turns. Dee Stewart definitely has a way with her descriptions. I like the back stories that we get on the characters. It definitely gives a lot of dimension and gives you insight into why the characters make the stupid decisions that they do. LOL I did love the constant back and forth between the two main characters but at times I felt like it was a little too much which maybe just enough for most people. Like I said it was rather enjoyable to watch and my mind's eye. One thing that you do not expect in these type of novels is a lot of action and you definitely get that towards the end of the book. It is a bit short-lived but the build-up to it is very well done. I have to admit, this book was not exactly my forte but it was fun to read and I thank the author for the awesome ride that she took me on with this novel. All things considered, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good romance with a sprinkling of action.
Life changes in the blink of an eye, Cameron has discovered that the hard way. With his life on hold, family and friends kept at a distance, Camron has no one but himself and his bitter heart to count on. He never expects to have a neighbor in the cottage next to him, continually having to inter seed into his life. He'd rather be miserable than happy, but that doesn't seem to be what happing between them both. As Cameron's past and present collide, he has to make a chose to remain aloof or finally open up to possibilities. Brianna needs a break and solitude in her life. She's always been shy, quiet, and is happy to remain so while dealing with deadlines for a new book on the horizon and a publisher breathing down her neck to finish. Her life will stay out of her control, so she decides to take control. She decides to move into a small cottage by herself. She didn't expect a surly neighbor next door. With her life somewhat back to normal, she begins to notice the neighbor, feelings she wasn't expecting between them, and strange things going on. Cameron and Brianna have been dancing around each other, and their feelings for a while now. They have decided to try and build a relationship. Life seems to keep butting into their tiny little world, and things keep happening that give them both pause. After an accident, they both drift apart, but both still care for each other. Brianna doesn't understand Cameron and his hesitation to become closer but still won't let her go. Brianna has secrets of her own, and Cameron must let his preconceptions go for them both to find peace between them. Will both of them finally communicate the essential things that need to be said between them both or let life, circumstances, past, and future keep them apart. Excellent read with lots of heart and pages to keep you intrigued to the end.
I love a great story involving a writer! I naturally felt a kinship with Brianna, who is also more on the introverted side. I'm also a sucker for locales that include big old houses or little seaside cottages. This story has both. Neither Brianna nor Cameron knows what to do when attraction, then love, comes knocking. How I enjoyed watching them struggle with it! Both have pasts that can and will affect their futures, so they fight their feelings in ways that kept me reading; you really want to know which will be first to come to the realization that they can't fight needing to be together. Throughout this tale, love makes a beautiful transition from frustration over falling in love to frustration over the trials of being selfless and sacrificing because of love. Cameron is that man who doesn't know how to express himself when he can't fix something. We all know them. Consequently, I thoroughly enjoyed yelling at Cameron out loud at points and sometimes at Brianna because their actions led me to turn the pages in the hopes of finding a great ending when all their frustrations were over. I did! I don't like giving details in reviews because I hate spoilers, but I will say the expedition for the magazine article was rather awesome! Dee Stewart's style in this book was interesting: It held hints of a historical romance style amid a more modern-day tale. That felt new to me and I found it appealing.
How much does fate play a role in our lives? Is everything that happens, good or bad, meant to be? For Cameron and Brianna, it seems as though fate brings them together, only to cruelly tear them apart. This is a story of star-crossed lovers – not to be overly dramatic. But the obstacles that crash into their paths do seem daunting.
Cameron is a US Attourney, working to bring down powerful drug cartels. Unfortunately, he puts a powerful man away in prison and his son goes after Cameron for revenge, killing Cameron’s wife and son, and causing him to go into hiding and isolation. There, Cameron meets Brianna, his neighbour, a shy, awkward writer who has moved to Maine to escape the city, and to escape her best friend Brendan, who is in love with her, and for whom she cannot return those feelings. Cameron and Brianna are certainly not looking for each other, and they do not intend to fall in love. In fact, Cameron does everything in his power to ensure that doesn’t happen. Honestly, the will-they-won’t-they in this book is a little bit maddening. Sometimes, I thought the title should be Waiting for Cameron – To Stop Messing With Our Feelings! When they finally succumb to their feelings, Cameron’s past rears its ugly head and the two are torn apart.
Now, that last bit is not a spoiler. That is actually on the blurb on the back of the book – which is a mistake in my opinion. I think the blurb gives too much away. All throughout their budding romance, I knew that it wasn’t going to last and that they would be separated. I think that twist would have been better left unsaid. I think I would have been happy worrying that it might happen, not being completely sure that it would happen. True, that is not the end of the story, and I felt that the last section of the book was the most interesting, but it think a little mystery in stories is a good thing.
Stewart writes interesting characters, and her descriptions take you right into the story. I felt like I was on a beach in Maine for a big chunk of the novel. While I may not have agreed with some of the actions of the characters, this only proved that they were their own people and that they were fully multidimensional. She writes about the power of love in such a way that I believed it. I recommend this book and look forward to reading the others in the series. Let us hope that as a writer, Ms. Stewart works faster than her character Cameron.
Waiting for Brianna: WOW! I loved all the twist, turns, suspense and surprises. Amazing characters and great story telling, fantastic dialog throughout. Very entertaining and interesting romance.
The first page when you first started reading you do not know he was dreaming, you think it just happened it draws you into the story. Cameron McAdam the way he talks and his actions I picture him much older around his 60s also I picture him with white around the sides of his head. Brianna only said yes to marry Brendan because she thought there was know other man for her until she finds out the man she loved is still alive, if she truly did not want anything to do with him she would have left him in bed and gone back to her cottage. It sad the way she found out about Brendan death, but it all turns out for the best in the long run.
Cam's life took a terrible turn when his wife and son were killed in a car explosion that was meant for him. He buys a secluded place in Maine and hides out from everyone. Brianna's family was killed in a car accident the day she was born, but little does she know there's secrets being kept from her. Cam doesn't want to be interested in case the cartel find him. He used to be a DA fighting against the cartel that's why his family was killed, only it was supposed to be him in the car. The story was light hearted for a while, towards the end action starts up.
