The Best Friend

Rate this book

She’s the high school klutz. He’s the best friend. But it wasn’t enough.

Alexa Parker’s only goal is to get into the best pre-med program in the country. No big deal. Except that nothing in her life ever goes as planned.

If an ice cream machine is going to explode, it will be her pulling the handle.

If a cactus is going to be sat on, it will be her butt that will be full of needles.

The only thing going right is the fact that her lifelong—and only—friend, Charlie, has stuck by her side through it all. Until Alex realizes she likes him more than a friend, and she manages to mess that up too.

Sometimes I want to turn off my brain and let it off hook, relax when I have to deal with too many stuff - and that is when I pick these YA rom-com books - they are fun and no-brainer.

A cute and sweet story of best friends to lovers!
I enjoyed the author's approach to the commonly used best-friends-to-lovers trope. I must admit that this is one of my favourite tropes, and it was charmingly done
The two main characters were sweet and likeable, and I found myself rooting for them from the first chapters. Alex was adorably clumsy and found herself in many awkward situations. Was it a bit cliche and improbable? Yes, but I still liked it!
There was surprising depth and character growth in the novel and the overall result was a delightful high school romance.
A clean novel with a HEA.

Cute and funny, though with a lot more depth than I'd thought initially. I enjoyed getting to know Alexa and Charlie, and I really felt for Alexa when she managed to royally mess up their friendship.
This is the first book I've read by Kat Bellemore, but now I want to read the other books in the series, too!

I truly loved this book. I liked the amazing ideas/twists the author made that you wouldn't have guessed were there. I would recommend this book for 6th-9th graders and above but honestly, if you love a good love book about best friends, especially when the boy is so caring, then go ahead and read it. :)

It was sort of okay-cute best friends to lovers story. But the story went so quickly i didn`t feel the chemistry so much as i`d like, it was so much happening that i felt unesesary and i didn`t feel connection to any of the characters.

Alright

This novel had a lot of up and down moments for me. One moment,  I was completely sure I wouldn't keep reading it,  the next I couldn't seem to put it down because I wanted to know what happened. In the end,  I'm glad I stuck with it and finished it out.

Best friends to boyfriend/girlfriend is tricky as Alexa and Charlie find out. But they're smart kids so forget about that perfect new girlfriend, Alexa! You've got someone pretty hot of your own.
Fun story about two best friends who manage to remain friends in spite of her clumsiness and his lack of thought before speaking. Good support from family and friends makes a difference. Enjoyable and laced with funny scenes!
Glad I read this one!

This is the first book in a darling new series by Kat Bellemore. Alex(a) and Charlie have been the best of friends forever it seems. They lift each other up when one falls, know the workings of each other's intricacies, and have special days and activities that belong to them alone. That is until the unthinkable happens and some mild jealously starts to arise in their friendship. Add into this everything that poor Alex touches causing an unfortunate catastrophic incident - you have a delightful, fun, clean romance with such a cute ending. I definitely recommend this book if you just enjoy reading!
I received an ARC copy of this book. However, this is my voluntary, honest and completely personal review.

I don't usually read this kind of book geared for the teenage generation but I was pleasantly surprised how good it was & I enjoyed it. It is very true to life & so appropriate for any age level. I think whatever the age we struggle being kind to those that seem very different to us so the lessons presented in this book are good for all of us to learn, relearn & practice in our lives. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary, honest opinion.

Friends to Sweethearts

by MoonGarden

Friends to sweethearts is my FAVORITE trope. This is an adorable high school romance. Alex and Charlie have been best friends through thick and thin, through all of Alex's clumsy disasters, but when Alex realizes she likes Charlie as more than a friend it may be her biggest disaster yet!

The writing draws you in and keeps you involved throughout the whole story, I found myself in love with not only the characters but also the world that was created.

The descriptions of the characters and their feelings are so involved, you can truly picture it in your mind. Their attitudes toward the events that are happening makes the story even richer.

High School Love Story
This is a sweet story about first love and friends to lovers in high school. It is a fun story that is pretty realistic. It definitely took me back to my high school days. This author tells a good and believable story that puts the reader into the middle of it. I received this ARC book for free from the author and this is my honest review.

Off Limits: The Best Friend is a sweet romance story between a klutz and her best friend. The characters are charming and very relatable to the high school years. The storyline is well written, realistic, and has humour, drama, and a sweet high school romance.

Charlie and Alexa are sweet high school friends but develop more feelings. They are great friends and don't want to ruin that. Will taking it further be the best choice or worst mistske?

I see the meaning behind the title but the book was a good-ok read!!

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2020...

Spoilers....here and there

I kind of started with book two, now I wish I started with book one first. But oh well, not going back to read a series over just because I wanna see what happened again. But at least I’ll get the chance to read book 5 soon enough!

So with that being said. When I first started this book, it started slow. It was kind of boring so.. it took me a while to finish it. Which lead me to read other books too.

But I was glad I finally got a chance to read this book. To learn who Alexis and Charlie were. Since they popped up in the book with Gracie and Markus.

With this book; I felt kind of bad for Alexis in many ways to those girls Cynthia and Jackie being mean to her. To Charlie dissing her, for Cynthia. I mean I understood why he was mad. But he still shouldn’t have thrown Cyrhnia in her face like that when she and Jackie were evil villains towards Alexis. Rob wasn’t mean like those girls were. He just had a feeling that Charlie had a thing for Alex. Even though Alex didn’t see it until after they kissed and stopped talking for a while.

I know one thing it took them long enough to get together. Because I was like dang... they dragging this along too much when they could talk to each other and work out there a friendship with each other. Even though friendship with each other wouldn’t have worked anymore because they both wanted to be with each other. But those use other people for a distraction...

This book may appeal to some teenagers, with its themes of friendship, first time love and bullying. It was a clean read but I really didn't enjoy it all that much.

The story had potential, but there was something missing in its execution. I wanted to FEEL rather than continuously be told what the characters were feeling. Most of the book was written as if pointing out a series of facts or events.

Alexa and Charlie were meant to be best friends, but their relationship from the start seemed awkward rather than comfortable. Their chemistry was lacking even though the author kept pointing out that Charlie liked Alexa more than a friend.

The story was told from more than one point of view which I believe did not enhance the flow of the plot. The humour was strained and sometimes silly - some of the scenes which were meant to be comical were actually far from believable. This book was just not my cup of tea!

Very relatable especially for me

The book is not what I thought it was going to be. This book is geared more for teens and how bullying is not an easy way out or even something that you should do cuz it can back fire just like what happened in this book. Yes Alexa and Charlie May be good friends but other people keep bullying Alexa until she stands up for herself and gets them back.

Alexa Parker's goal is to get into a pre-med program. Nothing goes as planned. She's the high school klutz. One thing going right is Charlie. Alexa realizes she likes him more than a friend.

Alexa's awkwardness gave her a "real" side to her character. Yet, more lay below the surface. A growing romance budded throughout the story. I found myself rooting for Charlie. I read high school stories to travel back in time. Great fun experience.

Rating: Mild for mild kissing

Really cute story

Alexa and her best friend Charlie are seniors in high school. Teenage angst, high school drama, the loss of a precious friendship due to unexpected feelings. It's all there in this feel good story, with lots of humor thrown in. I really enjoyed this book.

This was more complex than the usual friends-to-lovers YA plot. It was also refreshing that neither of the romantic leads played the martyr in the relationship; both of them pined and suffered for each other.

The ending felt like a believable HEA.
